Awful story just broken on twitter about horrendous racist questioning from Lady Hussey to Ngozi Fulani from Sister Space at yesterdays VAWG event.

Lady Hussey has resigned.

And in other news Christine McVie has sadly died .

GreensForMe · 30/11/2022 20:27

@Canthave2manycats

Now, that provides some context...

Doesn't it just? Ngozi must have triggered Lady Susan's innate racism by dressing in an exotic way 😂Lady Susan just couldn't help herself looking at all that exotic attire, if only Ngozi had been modest and dressed in a Western way LS would still be able to serve in the royal household. What a meany Ngozi was.

Don't be so obtuse! Her outfit reflected her cultural heritage - or are we not allowed to say that either?

Do none of you perfect people ever come out with stupid remarks that you'd rather you hadn't?

I'm not even going to read this shite any more. Some people are just rabid.

TheTantrumoftheToddlerIsThere · 30/11/2022 20:35

So are we satisfied with how the royals have dealt with the situation?

I’m happy with William’s statement, particularly the “racism has no place in our society” comment.

I thought Buckingham Palace’s response was was adequate until it transpired they haven’t directly reached out to Ngozi to discuss and apologise.

Tonkerbea · 30/11/2022 20:37

@Pallisers agreed! What on earth that poster was thinking...

I'm appalled at the racist attitudes on display from some posters, it's just so insidious.

And don't get me started on white people explaining how THEY don't mind being asked where they're from.

Cos that's the same as a black or brown person being othered overtly by an over privileged Lady in bloody Buckingham palace face palms.

I'm taking a break from this thread, the whole thing is so dispiriting.

They only employ them.

I don't think she is/was actually employed. Just an ancient aristocratic hanger-on.
Not that age is an excuse. I'm not much younger, and would never behave like that.

Sistah Spaces's website is happy to say that they support people from African and Caribbean heritage.
More code. 🙄

Don't be dispirited @Tonkerbea . We've come so far. The fact that these conversations are now highlighted and being questioned is a massive thing. The apologists are a minority, and their voices are becoming smaller and weaker. Of course the overtly and covertly racists will push back against this, they are feelign threatened. We must focus on the majority voices, and that this kind of behaviour has now finally been identified as unacceptable.

No @hattie43 , it's proved that mulitculturalism it doesn't work for you.
I feel saddened by how much you're missing out on, but that is your choice.

LadyKenya · 30/11/2022 20:45

That poster is not worth it@Mookie81 . They are just baiting all the time on threads about race. That tells you who they are.

siyanasaysrelax · 30/11/2022 20:46

Try to ignore @hattie43 . I feel desperately sad for him/her, it must be awful carrying around so much resentment and horrible feeling, while being unable to appreciate the beautiful diversity of the world we live in.

ClaudineClare · 30/11/2022 20:46

Nigel Farage seems to have joined the thread.

LadyKenya · 30/11/2022 20:48

There are a lot of decent people out there willing to fight against racism who are not poc. The racists cannot be allowed to drown out the voices of those speaking out against this cancer.

I'm sorry to labour the point, but what was the point you were trying to make with your story about asking what someone did at the weekend? I also still don't understand why the colour of someone's skin has any bearing on your anecdote at all.

That views vary from person to person and what one POC finds offensive another will not. The person who took issue with being asked what she did at the weekend, blamed it on the people asking being white - they're nosy and intrusive apparently and she feels she must hide what she does to protect herself from that. I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable so asked if she'd prefer to never be asked but she ignored me. Made me wonder if I was making my colleagues uncomfortable. Genuinely surprised you can't see why colour of someone's skin is relevant in that anecdote. I was responding to someone who said she wouldn't ask questions about people's background anymore. I thought it was similar. Maybe go back and reread the posts and what I responded to and it might become clearer to you.

I'm not sure if you're trying to find something offensive in my posts tbh? Are you?

I'm not offended at all, but I 100% cannot see what skin colour has to do with anything that you wrote, apart from maybe you feel that POC are more likely to be offended? But of course you're not saying that are you?

Televivi · 30/11/2022 20:50

@Mookie81 I reported it too.

I am pleased that Lady Susan has been told to resign resigned.

All the racist and obtuse posters on this thread will have to watch their racist tongues very carefully or else they will also be asked to leave their workplace, that's all great news. I hope Ngozi will be ok 💝

siyanasaysrelax · 30/11/2022 20:52

@LondonWolf my issue with your post (which I have not been clear in explaining, I apologise) is that you have taken one experience with one POC on mumsnet, and generalised it to all POC (because I am white I mustn't ask about their weekend as one POC once told me it was intrusive).

Please clarify if this isn't what you are saying.

Televivi · 30/11/2022 20:52

Oh it's been deleted. Clear attempt to get this thread deleted. If it's absolutely necessary due to hate speech, @Mumsnet please just freeze it don't delete this thread it's important.

We are all agreed that racism is 100% wrong. Problem is that we don't seem to be able to agree what racism is. Were Lady H's comments deliberately meant to be racist and offensive, or was it just a massive gaffe? Was Ngozi setting out to be deliberately offended? Who knows? Probably a bit of both.
