Awful story just broken on twitter about horrendous racist questioning from Lady Hussey to Ngozi Fulani from Sister Space at yesterdays VAWG event.

Lady Hussey has resigned.

I don't get this hatred. I am a white woman from the UK and have been asked questions like this when in a country where I look or sound different to most of the population (or even in different parts of the UK). Same for my husband, also white, from the UK. We did not scream racism and go to the press, but understood it as making conversation or genuine interest.
The supposed racist comments about Prince Harry's child is another thing I don't get. Surely most families in the world, when seeing two people with different colouring/races are due to have a child, will speculate about who the child will take after?

Then they need to vet them all again now there is a new king. Zero tolerance. Get them out.

Trouble is they'd need to turf half the family out, too.

Then they must do it.

Must've been recorded as it's very specific. No-one could remember that word for word

That's what I thought, LookingAtYou, but I didn't know if it had actually been said that it was recorded ...

She might have remembered it as it was so jaw droppingly shocking

Apparently it was princess Michale of Kent with the brooch I though it was one and the same person, apologies for the mix up.

If you don't get it then read up on it, don't just dismiss it as 'screaming'.

Domestic violence is not falling out with inlaws. What is wrong with you?

They should have been better prepared yes. If someone had previous likened the Sussex debacle to domestic violence I think I'd have had switched on people interacting with the attendees not a 83 yr old lady asking inappropriate, probing questions.

I bet Harry is loving this just as PW arrives in Boston.

I repeat, emotional abuse, controlling behaviour and racism are all DV. Meghan has reported that she was suicidal due to their treatment of her. That, under U.K. legislation, would qualify her for DV support.

You going ‘no, it’s not’ doesn’t change that. You arguing semantics, disproven by the UN resource that you’ve decided to ignore also does not change that.

They should have been better prepared yes. If someone had previous likened the Sussex debacle to domestic violence I think I'd have had switched on people interacting with the attendees not a 83 yr old lady asking inappropriate, probing questions.

Or they could just NEVER have doddery racists asking inappropriate questions of anyone?

I bet Harry is loving this just as PW arrives in Boston.

Yes, this is probably Harry and Meghan’s fault, actually.

You come across as hysterical, poorly educated, and lacking in the ability to form a coherent narrative. I don’t feel particularly sorry for you, though. Just making an observation.

Only in your ignorant opinion @RishisProudMum

Luckily for me, I’m very well educated and extremely well paid.

bye xxx

it was the Duchess of Kent who wore a racist brooch when meeting Meghan but I could be mistaken.

You are mistaken. It was Princess Michael of Kent. The Duchess of Kent is a different person.

Why does Kent need a duchess AND a princess?

@LookingAtYou I don’t know about you, but I either repress traumatic memories or remember every single detail. Let’s not undermine or invalidate the experience of others just because you find it hard to believe.

GreensForMe · 30/11/2022 18:21

Oh my goodness @ginghamstarfish are you really comparing your experience as a British visitor to another country being asked where you are from with the expereince of a native Brit being asked where she's from due to the colour of her skin? Lady Susan was being racist and obtuse and she was like a dog with a bone.
I am curious as to why she actually attended, what was she needed for? Did her daughter invite her? Camilla?

Thankfully she has had to leave her exceptionally privileged position, who will be next?

Yes sometimes time seems to slow down so I can remember every second

*with the experience of a native Brit being asked where she's from due to the colour of her skin in her own home country.

I know you were being ironic, Rishi, but if anyone really thought that - or maybe even wondered if they'd set it up - I guess the palace's response may have squashed the idea?

Maximinimalist · 30/11/2022 18:22

That lady representing the household really showed her racist credentials. It was terrible.

Always funny to see people denying the experience of those at the receiving end of such abuse.

Remember that woman in Central Park who called the cops on the black man who simply asked her to leash her dog? Imagine if there was no recording of the incident.

It is absolutely no stretch of the imagination to believe this exchange happened. The Royal Family is anchored in racism and colonialism.

83 is no excuse.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 30/11/2022 18:26

The former Ladies in Waiting (of Queen Elizabeth II) became 'Ladies of the Household' of Charles III - assisting the King and Queen at events, helping to host. That's the role from which SH has now resigned.

I think its coz there's too many guests for the actual royal family member to speak to them all

MrsBollocks · 30/11/2022 18:27

Yes, there were 300 at this event so that would make sense.

mathanxiety · 30/11/2022 18:28

It’s women like you and @RishisProudMum that make it so hard for aspiring women. Men think all women and stupid and emotional because of the comments women like you make.

Massive eyeroll.
