Awful story just broken on twitter about horrendous racist questioning from Lady Hussey to Ngozi Fulani from Sister Space at yesterdays VAWG event.

Lady Hussey has resigned.

Lady SH is an elderly racist. The apologists on this thread are younger racists. Being racist isn't an age thing, it's a racist thing.

I'm off to update the spreadsheet.

Squeezita · 30/11/2022 17:21

Aquablue21 · 30/11/2022 17:19

I am also mixed race. But not African. But please continue to tell me how I must be racist, because I’m…..?

You thought you'd rock up on the thread, mention your 'African heritage, Caribbean descent and British born ' child and we'd all determine that your racist posts can't be racist. Not happening.

Croque · 30/11/2022 17:22

Squeezita · 30/11/2022 17:18

You mean your Daily Fail knowledge. Riveting...

How do you have the debating/spelling abilities of a Daily Mail reader? I think you would feel very alone in the comments section of a broadsheet. Correct me if I am wrong and you are actually a genius on morphine or something. 😅

She’s dodging any and all questions and going ‘I can’t be racist, you’re so silly!’ It’s certainly interesting.

Squeezita · 30/11/2022 17:12

Sadly having black partners doesn't stop people from being racist.

Cheryl Tweedy anyone?

Dismissing who she is and the context of her race, skin colour and heritage when Ngoni Fulani was interrogate about these in such a rude and unintelligent manner shows up your white privilege, no matter what you tell yourself.

Squeezita · 30/11/2022 17:22

Aquablue21 · 30/11/2022 17:20

I’m helping where I can.

What are you doing? Anything?

You're helping to maintain the racist status quo. Crack on, but don't expect to be respected for it.

LookingAtYou · 30/11/2022 17:23

Aquablue21 · 30/11/2022 16:53

Lady Susan was extremely rude. Her questions were completely inappropriate.

But Ngozi has made this event all about her. The event was about gender-based violence. Women and girls are being raped and murdered in the uk and worldwide, in domestic and conflict situations. This was the important thing to focus on. There are stupid people everywhere, everyday. Call them out, but don’t dominate the headlines and detract from the key message of the event.

For the record, I’m an immigrant to the UK too, but my daughter is also African heritage, Caribbean descent and British born.

Absolutely this.

Such as? Please tell us these ways. Educate Black people on how they can respond to racism in a manner you find tasteful and discreet.

Educate yourself.

I'm entitled to express my feeling of unease about how this was handled, while also agreeing on the seriousness of the incident and the resignation.
I suspect you're making inaccurate assumptions about my skin colour, not that I give a stuff about what you think.

@RishisProudMum NF comes across as a perpetually insulted snowflake.
there is nothing wrong with the interaction given the age and stage of the person involved.

She's in her 80s, same as my MIL.

The difference is between then is that my MIL isn't racist and is well aware that we now have several generations of black people who are British and were born in the UK. She wouldn't dream of asking "Where are you from?" if she was curious about someone's heritage.

Croque · 30/11/2022 17:26

Ooh er, we cannot be immigrants and disagree with this bunch of angry zombies. Not allowed according to the rules. Tut tut. Ding!!! You're cancelled!

Aquablue21 · 30/11/2022 17:26

Here’s the answers to yoke questions.

  1. yes, I think she should have let the focus been on the event. She could have raised this in a week’s time.
  2. I think she’s media savvy. If you tweet something, it’s in the public domain.
  3. i don’t think I ‘spew nonsense’. You’re the racist one because you won’t allow other women to have a voice if you don’t agree with them or they don’t fit the narrative. I raised my point of view in a respectful manner and all you can do is insult me. You’re as bad as Lady Susan. I won’t let people like you put me down for having my opinion.
RishisProudMum · 30/11/2022 17:27

Softplayhooray · 30/11/2022 17:16

This a fair point. I have a mixed race friend whose mum is white and dad is black and she swears her mum is racist. She actually is because I met her and heard a few comments. I'd have had a hard time believing it if I hadn't met her mum personally. So bizarre.

It’s astonishingly common. There’s research that indicates it’s most common in BM/WW and WM/AW pairings, but as those are the most common interracial pairings, I’m not sure if that actually means anything. What’s frightening is that these people then raise mixed race kids while despising 50% of their heritage. It makes me really sad to think about.

Hilarious that @Rainingnow , @Croque and @Aquablue21 refuse to disclose their own race, apart from vague references to minority religious group and mixed races.

And yet Ms Fulani was being difficult by refusing to disclose her heritage to Lady Hussey.

The hypocrisy is amazing.

CrabbitBastard · 30/11/2022 17:28

Looking at the questions, and how Ngoni answers, I think she saw an opportunity, Lady Hussey walked into the trap, and Ngoni is getting publicity from it.

I mean the first time LH says 'where are you from', Ngoni replies with the company name. When asked again, she says 'we are based in Hackney'. She knew full well what the question was and could have said "I come from hackney'.
Then the conversation could have gone two ways - an acceptable way, or an unacceptable way. The latter would have been LH's fault but by answering with the company name, then WE instead of I, Ngoni was setting a trap.

A black woman posted a racist exchange on her Twitter feed? Why does that make you feel uneasy?Confused

Not gonna lie, anyone defending this is as racist as they come.

If you can't see the racism in that conversation then there is really no more hope for you, you'll die a racist.

Absolutely agree!!

C8H10N4O2 · 30/11/2022 17:29

And now, on R4 I've just heard Petronella Wyatt, another crony of Charles and Camilla, one of their regular "sources close to Charles said" friends.

She has just explained why we are all wrong, its not racist at all, dear old Lady Susan doesn't have a mean bone in her body, not racist at all, the Palace will miss her, poor dear has lost her job and best of all that she is asked where she is from all the time and doesn't find it offensive.

Hussey didn't just say "but where are you from" she kept repeating it and refusing to accept the answer multiple times.

Dictating when people can speak about hurtful experiences? For what, your comfort? Some imagined etiquette (that only the black woman has to stick to, naturally)? And saying she's "media savvy" oh so she's cunningly outed the poor little old lady? You are RACIST and your mental gymnastics are crazy.

Croque of shite is about right.

😅 That reads better than ‘grandiose delusion’ – and equally as true.

LondonWolf · 30/11/2022 17:29

Hmm, some people of colour on Twitter have interesting different opinions and offer insight into the background of this. Worth considering I think.
