The long awaited documentray is hitting the screen on December 8th:

What with the award in a few days and the book in January they're ramping up the game.

Also, credible threats to her life may explain the other things she claimed, was this around the time they advised her going out or advised against international travel etc.

So she has took it as controlling her, while they were actually protecting her?

Credible. But they were fine letting her work anyway? They also took away her security? On top it's ok to take away her security and leak where she lives?

They didn’t ‘take away her security’ at that point though, did they? It’s disgraceful to insinuate that. That his family were trying to get them killed? That’s taking it too far.

They didn’t even take it away while they were living in Canada.

It was ‘taken away’ from them because they no longer live in the country, some years after.

is that the spin @notanotheroneagain ?

Just find it ridiculous to jump on a narrative like this when the trailer is chock a block full of material unrelated to the couple. Especially when they never said these pics and clips were about them.

To me it's quite obvious, other things will be included on there.

It's not their place to speak about other peoples experiences without their permission, that's overstepping a boundary (although tbf boundaries are nonexistent in the 'World According to Haz & Megz').

But it’s a reality show about M and H !?

Harry and Meghan's Netflix trailers criticised over 'misleading' clips www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-63837131

oh dear…

I wonder if someone at Netflix is a secret fan of the monarchy and has done this deliberately to discredit H&M .

cyclamenqueen · 06/12/2022 19:23

The reason they are getting the award tonight is because Rory Kennedy runs a production company with Liz Garbus who directed the Netflix series . Rory Kennedy is the sister of Kerry Kennedy . Robert Kennedy jr has already criticised the choice and has said that he cannot imagine why they were chosen,

honestly when you think of the women in Iran or Afghanistan or Zelensky or people protesting in China it is absurd that two over indulged millionaires who can’t even substantiate their claims of racism within a privileged institution that they gave continued to receive funding from and who have done nothing personally to actively change things should be feted with an award. They should hang their heads in shame.

Yes I agree that would a valuable lesson for Harry to learn.

You know what I meant.

Truss along with every other PM gets it for life.

I assume not if they move overseas?

That's an interesting point - I assume if they are designated an IPP then they'd have to make sure whichever country they wanted to move to was prepared to fund the security - I think that's how it works. Although Chelsea Clinton was still covered by her father's secret service security when she was studying in Oxford for two years and I think the Americans supplied that. They installed bullet proof glass and cameras in her student rooms - not sure if the US or UK paid for that.

Salman Rushdie who was deemed to be a very high risk category at the time of the initial fatwa had UK security provided by RAVEC but then he started living in the US - not clear if the US government took that over. Then of course in recent years he'd declined extra security and I imagine it's been reinstated after the recent attack.

I was trying to look in to what happens about protection for former PM’s and I couldn’t find anything definitive about whether they all get it or just the ones deemed to be at high risk, such as the ones who involved using wars. I know they all get an allowance but I couldn’t find out if they all get security or not 🤷‍♀️

I can't imagine Liz Truss will need security for long - she wasn't around long enough to be party to enough security briefings to be in danger!

Once again.

Their security was not removed until it was clear they were no longer going to be working Royals and had no intention of returning to live in the UK.

You can try and spin this as much as you want from the Netflix car crash that is incoming, but the facts remain.

You choose to leave your job you accept you lose any job related perks. Especially when you move across the world.

In other news, Netflix have apparently said that the use of the stick images in the trailer is standard practice and are used to tell a story and are not meant to be “literal in a trailer”. I think we all kind of got this, but it doesn’t inspire confidence that any of the rest of the documentary should be taken literally!

smilesy · 06/12/2022 20:43

Stock. Not stick 😂

Xenia · 06/12/2022 20:54

I did think stock images might be used on trailers but it seemed particularly silly to do that with this one given the proved lies the couple have made in other interviews (eg that they married 3 days before the royal wedding) which might have meant they would not want any chance of insinuation of the same again here.

susan12345678 · 06/12/2022 21:01

The trailers suggest either amateurish production values, deliberate manipulation or some mixture of the two. I don’t intend to watch, unless there turns out to be some sort of mischievous Tiger King style denouement

I call bollocks , they used stock photos because they couldn't find any linked to H&M .

WeWereInParis · 06/12/2022 21:08

notanotheroneagain · 06/12/2022 18:21

Nothing 'misleading' about the pictures. No where does it say these are pics of H&M being harassed.

The narrative is clearly :
The media harasses people, (mostly women) !

There were pap photos of other people not H&M. Diana, KM, others from HP premier, Trump lawyer etc. there will probably be lots of other people unrelated to H&M. There were also random paper prints . Chances are that there will be all sorts in a segment highlighting the media harassment (I do hope they show the harassment of Gemma from Towie, Hugh grant and others and most importantly...........Caroline Flack).

The media can see it coming a mile off, so they have to deflect.
Don't try to twist this into what it's not, when you have not seen the show itself.

But the Harry Potter premiere is a terrible example of press harassment! You want press at a premiere - they weren't invading anyone's privacy.

Haven’t Netflix also claimed that this show is a “historical documentary” and not a reality tv show or indeed a drama like the Crown? And so using misleading images to tell a story does purports to be a documentary would be kind of…unethical?

To be fair I think the public told Netflix that. I bet Netflix didn't even know they were stock pictures til people started tweeting.

Constant rowing back by Netflix. British Commonwealth anyone?

MarshaMelrose · 06/12/2022 21:43

I think it's Harry and Meghan that made the statement, not Netflix.

Representatives for Prince Harry and Meghan have defended the use of stock images and footage in trailers for the couple's Netflix documentary amid claims of misinformation.

"You use stock images to tell a story," a source close to the couple, and documentary, told The Telegraph. "It's not meant to be literal in a trailer."

They said the choice to use stock footage was "standard practice in documentary and trailer production".

So you can make a trailer telling your story. But the evidence to back it up is not meant to be taken as true. Silly us.
