The long awaited documentray is hitting the screen on December 8th:

What with the award in a few days and the book in January they're ramping up the game.

The documentary and book are all for the foreign/US punters who will believe it

Let's not be too damning about their international audience; I wouldn't pretend to speak for all any more than I would in the UK, but I spend half my life in the US and mostly what I've heard is "That Meghan - she's a liar"

The inconsistencies might play well with those who have an attention span fit only for the likes of Twitter and those who can see absolutely nothing but race, but while they're noisy I'm not convinced they form a majority

If I've understood the gist of Trailer #2 and the Judicial Review, Harry's contention is that a member of RAVEC was unduly influenced by someone either 'at the Palace' or 'in the family' to remove their security?

But their security was never 'removed'!

They had a form of diplomatic status when working royals, so the Canadian and British authorities cooperated to provide security when they were living in Canada. When they were no longer working royals, that arrangement ended. Harry will surely have known about that long in advance, even if he tried to hint otherwise on Oprah.

There was never any question of them receiving British taxpayer funded security when they chose to move to California. Again, Harry will surely have known that. The situation should he visit Britain itself is that his security is now assessed on a case by case basis, which seems eminently fair and reasonable to me. But I do think this isn't so much about security as about ego and status for Harry.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/12/2022 16:46

Protection hasn't been withdrawn
The current position is that security needs will be assessed ahead of each trip, and official security will be provided depending on the threat assessment

This is true, mpsw, but as with "Why would they want half in/half out of an institution which nearly drove Meghan to suicide?", inconvenient issues tend to get ignored on these threads

"It’s arbitrary & at the Firm’s prerogative. Prince Andrew has security because the Queen wants him too. Harry doesn’t for the same reason."

Spelling errors aside, do you seriously consider this to be informed comment?

Hasn’t Andrew’s security been removed ? Read that it had .

I'm not sure anyone really knows. These things are usually not discussed in public and the authorities, for obvious reasons, don't confirm who does or does not have official security.

Andrew seems to rarely leave Windsor, which will already have royal protection, so his security, if he has it, would be relatively low key.

Itsbeenashortyear · 06/12/2022 17:05

I thought Andrew had lost it too as well.

The ‘Meghan received credible threats’ also doesn’t make sense. I am sure she did. But they didn’t lose security until they left the RF.

I am also sure most of the RF also have credible threats made against them. It’s not unusual for high profile people to have threats. That doesn’t mean security would be provided if they are no longer part of the ‘Firm’ and don’t live in the country. I can’t tie up why Meghan receiving credible threats is story at all.

Readinginthesun · 06/12/2022 17:09

Can I just leave this here ? It made me smile .
Of SM is to be believed there are urgent meetings at Netflix about the backlash .

Harry, Meghan and Netflix are go

Same, I would have assumed they all are receiving credible threats.

They are announcing it to try and indicate that the RF ‘took away’ their security while they were receiving death threats. It’s click bait.

The truth of the matter is more boring and rational.
They don’t get royal protection as they’re not royals and don’t live in the UK.
When they visit police protection will be assessed on need.

Private security can be paid for by them if they so desire it.

TheGander · 06/12/2022 17:44

I can understand Harry being angry at the press because of what they did to his late mother- that is a fact.
What happened behind closed doors when he and Meghan were working royals- we’ll never know, and there must be various sides to that story.
What grates is that they ( and especially Meghan) want some kind of luxury victim status, while enjoying a mind boggingly expensive lifestyle which is only available to a tiny proportion of humanity, and their only “work” is monetising their relation to the RF.

Furries · 06/12/2022 17:47

The use of misleading paparazzi photos in the two trailers would have been an interesting case study to use for the Aspen Institute’s six month study into disinformation and misinformation in media/sm. An initiative which Harry was involved with - straight from the horse’s mouth.

LondonWolf · 06/12/2022 17:50

Meghan and Kate didn't get on.

Security is shockingly expensive and eats into one's capital.

That is my summary of the whole M & H debacle.

The luxury victim but is true.

As a mixed race women I have always been a mixture of shocked and disgusted that a White, rich, privileged, Prince that has been publicly racist in the past, has managed to convince so many people he is a victim of racism and has been marginalised by his own family, the Uk press and the People of the UK.

Maybe you are wildly speculating, but there are actual facts pertinent to this case. Anyone who thinks that official protection is based solely on what the monarch wants hasn't got a clue what they're talking about.

But as someone tweeted, if we believe the Queen insisted on security being withdrawn against the advice of the experts, was her intention for Harry and Meghan to be murdered? His grandmother, who Harry said only trusted him, only relied on him and who loved him, would be happy to see him dead?

I totally agree. All the rest is just flummery

notanotheroneagain · 06/12/2022 18:21

Nothing 'misleading' about the pictures. No where does it say these are pics of H&M being harassed.

The narrative is clearly :
The media harasses people, (mostly women) !

There were pap photos of other people not H&M. Diana, KM, others from HP premier, Trump lawyer etc. there will probably be lots of other people unrelated to H&M. There were also random paper prints . Chances are that there will be all sorts in a segment highlighting the media harassment (I do hope they show the harassment of Gemma from Towie, Hugh grant and others and most importantly...........Caroline Flack).

The media can see it coming a mile off, so they have to deflect.
Don't try to twist this into what it's not, when you have not seen the show itself.

LadyVictoriaSponge · 06/12/2022 18:23

If the Queen had agreed to them having the glamorous bits of royalty plus being able to monetise their royal brand in America they would be revelling in being part of the institution, this is simply revenge because they didn’t get their own way.

notanotheroneagain · 06/12/2022 18:24

kind of luxury victim status,

The only ones who have been playing victim is the rf and their 'palace sources'.

notanotheroneagain · 06/12/2022 18:27

The security will be provided due to his proximity to the King.

Same as it' still provided for BoJo, Lizzy T and all other former leaders.

notanotheroneagain · 06/12/2022 18:29

Speaking of Andrew, he does have security and here is what his Met security had to say about him.

If the documentary, when aired, states along the lines of “here are photos demonstrating that xyz has also been hounded by paparazzi” then I’ll eat my hat.

Don’t think anyone would be surprised he is a terrible person to work for.

But that video went up 3 weeks ago and the person isn’t currently doing the job.

It was reported in late November that Andrew was losing his ‘tax payer funded police security.

notanotheroneagain · 06/12/2022 18:36

Also, credible threats to her life may explain the other things she claimed, was this around the time they advised her going out or advised against international travel etc.

So she has took it as controlling her, while they were actually protecting her?

Credible. But they were fine letting her work anyway? They also took away her security? On top it's ok to take away her security and leak where she lives?

sashagabadon · 06/12/2022 18:36

is that the spin @notanotheroneagain ?
