Prince Harry's Memoir: A World Publishing Phenomenon

There will likely be several bashing threads on Harry's memoir before it is published, but I am interested in discussing with anyone who is interested in the very interesting marketing choices of the publishers and their approach.

English language editions of SPARE will be published on 10 January 2023 in EIGHT territories: the US, the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, India, South Africa and Canada.

The book will also be published in translation in 15 additional languages:

SPANISH Plaza & Janés/Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial
GERMAN Penguin Verlag/Penguin Random House Verlagsgruppe GmbH, PORTUGUESE BRAZIL Objetiva/Grupo Companhia das Letras
PORTUGUESE PORTUGAL Objectiva/Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial, SIMPLIFIED CHINESE Penguin Random House China
DANISH Politikens Forlag
DUTCH Hollands Diep, an imprint of Overamstel
FINNISH Otava Publishing Company Ltd
FRENCH Éditions Fayard
GREEK Pedio Books
HUNGARIAN Corvina Kiadó
ITALIAN Mondadori,
POLISH Wydawnictwo Marginesy,
ROMANIAN Nemira Publishing House,
SWEDISH Albert Bonniers Förlag.

This is absolutely sensational as it means it will be simultaneously published in 23 territories on the same day.

There are not many books where simultaneous release occurs in different markets. From this, I would say that the book will more than earn its advance, just from the foreign sales alone.

They also chose a banger of a title as it puts focus on the troubling notion of the Spare in a system based on primogeniture, and one that imbues both intrinsic and extrinsic value based on a person's birth order.

Imagine growing up knowing that no matter how loved you may be, your constitutional role is ultimately to be the spare to the heir.

Can't wait to read it!

I thought that was odd as well. She seems a lovely woman, she will have friends.

M could have invited her Uncles who could have sat with her.

Thisisnotalife · 31/10/2022 19:11

Thank you for expressing so well what I have been thinking.
MM was probably working the staff’s butt off, sending emails and following up. Probably not the cushy job they were expecting. Hence they called her the « bully » and she is under investigation ! The gall of the Black woman who dares to request some respect and is not simply content with what she is getting!

Meanwhile Cranky Charles and his pens and his toothbrush and toothpaste are somehow normal
behavior! Hahaha

Ohnonevermind · 31/10/2022 19:18

@Thisisnotalife

She harrassed and bullied staff, an example being she rang one staff member on a Friday night every 10 minutes to shout down the phone because she was pissed off about something, she demeaned staff in front of their peers, she ‘always had someone in her sights’ - yeah but it’s the staff’s fault 🙄 blame the victim

So the bullying victims are snowflakes - aren’t you the charmer.

Thisisnotalife · 31/10/2022 20:03

Still waiting for that report

Xenia · 31/10/2022 20:04

None of us were there so don't really know but a fair bit of what MM has said has not been true. However I hope they can move away from feeling sorry for themselves and cross about loads of things and just lead happy lives and involve both grandfathers in the lives of the children.

Croque · 03/11/2022 09:47

The problem is that she is a proven liar and a fair number of her defenders online have also been called out for twisting the truth.

Other defenders will defend robotically on sjw grounds regardless of whether they know much about her or not. These are often backed by organisations who can easily send their representatives to post on public forums.

Often, the affinity we feel for another is underpinned by innate similarities.

Croque · 03/11/2022 09:52

Outside the big bucks philanthropy bubble, the tide has pretty much turned against her and she can throw any amount of money at PR agencies but the majority of the British do not believe her and the majority of Americans do not want to know either. Therefore, she has increasingly geared her 'work' (and I put that into inverted commas!) to appeal to young, social justice warriors with fairly limited useful critical thinking skills who will jump on the bandwagon and punch their fist in the air when she applies those modern buzzwords. That is the measure of it.

The British aren't her target market 😂

The funeral exposed them and their media's racism to a world wide audience. Hatred against a woman for holding her husband's hand was rightfully seen as crazy.

H&M will be awarded for their humanitarian efforts this December while your Prince and Princess come to America to beg for attention, don't let that hurt your feelings too deeply.

H&M are living their lives. The fact that people can't move on isn't their problem 😅

If they want to live their “ authentic” lives , they should drop their titles . After all why on earth would they want to be associated with the toxic RF ??

They are living their authentic lives. You are the one branding it inauthentic by virtue of their titles and that's your business and problem, not theirs. Fergie was hawking weight watchers and is selling Mills and Boon novels using her titles. She went on Oprah to complain about the institution and gray men too, Is she being inauthentic?

Alleged rapist and child trafficker, Duke of York who retains his round the clock tax payer funded security wants a word too 😂

Harry and Meghan's titles are going NOWHERE.

pumpkinscoop · 03/11/2022 11:00

Bovrilly · 03/11/2022 11:06

I think @Readinginthesun is merely pointing out the hypocrisy of complaining about the RF to the point that they needed to find freedom, while also using royal titles to sell their wares. Fergie may have done the latter but she didn't do the former, and the inauthenticity lies in the combination of the two - "we need to escape from this awful racist institution which nearly destroyed us and be private citizens.. oh and please buy this book credited to Prince Harry / the Duchess of Sussex"

Let me see. Prince Harry is a blood Prince, nothing he can do about that. Over 70 books written about him in his lifetime, he is well within his rights to write about HIS OWN LIFE. I can't imagine anyone begrudging him that. I don't see Duke of Sussex anywhere on that book title.

They complained about the RF's lack of support and media ugliness. What does that have to do with what they are doing now? which is living their lives and taking on commercial work to afford their security. I'm happy for them.

Readinginthesun · 03/11/2022 11:19

@Bovrilly thanks , you have put it very well . I am indeed pointing out the hypocrisy. I remember Sarah’s interview and it was nowhere near as spiteful as the one done by H and M ( who couldn’t even get their stories straight) . Andrew , well the less said about him the better and I have no idea why he and his ghastly wife are dragged into every debate about the H and M.
Yes, Harry is a blood Prince but there is absolutely no reason that he and his wife need to use their titles. I would think more of them if they dropped their titles and relied on their ( admittedly dubious) talents to earn a living .

No, you wouldn't. I remember people swearing up and down, they would leave them alone if they paid off Frogmore. Even if they do give up the titles, you'd say it was Harry's place in the line of succession enabling him to earn a living.

A royal reporter has even said they will never be left alone, he is the son of a King, Uncle of a future King. Line of succession or not.

H&M might as well live lives on their own terms. They seem to be getting on with it, good for them!

Bovrilly · 03/11/2022 11:32

Prince Harry is a blood Prince, nothing he can do about that.

He could choose not to call himself that. Otherwise it just looks like he's happy to use his royal connections to make money whilst also complaining about the institution.

Over 70 books written about him in his lifetime, he is well within his rights to write about HIS OWN LIFE.

Yes, agreed, I don't think anyone has suggested otherwise?

I don't see Duke of Sussex anywhere on that book title.

I didn't mention Duke of Sussex. I said Prince Harry, which is on the cover of his new book, and the Duchess of Sussex, which was on the cover of the one about the bench.

milti · 03/11/2022 11:48

One about the bench 😂😂 god that was dire

He is a Prince, end of. I take your point on the Bench book.

H&M seem to be getting a lot less bad press since they dumped Sunshine Sachs. They seem to have become a lot more "boring" recently which I think is definitely a good thing.

I think they're just getting on with their lives. Meghan with her podcast. Harry with his book out in January. I believe they've got a show coming to Netflix in December. Happy to see it.
