Meghan’s latest Archwell podcast- Paris Hilton

Having started threads on earlier editions of the Archewell podcast, I felt compelled to comment on the latest - an interview with Paris Hilton - on the theme of the Bimbo.

I’ve not listened - but have read a summary - and the premise strikes me as rather hypocritical.
Meghan apparently mentions taking part in a diplomatic motorcade in Argentina during an internship at the Embassy, a role she claims to have received for her intelligence and education, but neglects to mention that her uncle arranged the (very brief) role for her or the small matter of failing the diplomatic exams. The implication seems to be that she should have been destined for a stellar professional career but sabotaged these possibilities by taking on ‘bimbo’ roles in a short-sighted effort to pay the rent.

The truth of the matter is that she may never have succeeded in a more intellectual or professional career and being a ‘bimbo’ actually served her extremely well - after all, she is someone of middling talent and would never have gained the prominence she has, or access to a wealthy husband, without these ‘bimbo’ roles.

In general, one only has to look at Instagram, Only Fans, Sugar Daddy sites to appreciate the true scale of the ‘bimbo’ economy which was Meghan’s natural habitat. It’s not going anywhere- and it’s an amusing conceit to imagine, now that she’s in her 40s and safely married to a rich man, that it was all somehow beneath her all along

She has a new interview published in an American magazine. She seems to be striking out on her own a lot . I wonder what Harry is doing ? X

God forbid a female public figure do anything without her husband, eh?

Whitepouringglue · 19/10/2022 13:44

Don't you think you should have listened before starting a thread?

Why on earth do you feel you owe it to MN to start a thread on each podcast?!

tuttifruit · 19/10/2022 12:11

Agree OP. She is really struggling to appear relevant and carve her own identity. She seems to complain about everything and anyone that helped her get to where she is now. Odd

Haven’t heard the podcast but opinions on it about the hypocrisy toward her judgement of other women considered Bimbo’s and how she them makes it all about herself. Also that she cannot let go of being the victim.

It’s pretty well documented what’s in each episode and because she can.

I think she was in Deal if No Deal around 2005 and the Burger advert was 2013

Thank you.

So 8 years after feeling so strongly about how being on Deal Or No Deal made her feel she then took part in a very suggestive, leave nothing to the imagination advert for a Mens magazine instead.

7Worfs · 19/10/2022 13:51

Seemingly she’s happy to coach any actress who may play her on screen in he future as she’d like them to get her right.

Is this for real? Gosh, she really believes her own hype. Grin

Unfortunately it appears she has now lost the fine balance between carefully crafting a false image and flying sufficiently under the radar to get away with it.

The podcasts and The Cut article were the beginning of her undoing; she is being mocked almost openly.

You could not make this up! I did not listen to a podcast but I’ll get heated up based on what I’ve read about the podcast and rumours I’ve heard about Meghan plus I’ll throw in some sexism and voila.

Just why?

Bizarre isn’t it, people are obsessed

MrsTumblebee · 19/10/2022 13:59

susan12345678 · 19/10/2022 09:09

It seems quite odd to start an entire thread about a podcast that you haven't actually listened to.

I read a summary, that’s enough to form an opinion. I struggle to listen to Meghan’s voice because she sounds so insincere to me & it grates.

I won’t listen to the podcast but I have to disagree with you about her voice.

Summaries of episodes don't capture tone and nuance. They're also usually biased depending on the views of those writing the summaries. There's a reason students are told not to use SparkNotes etc.

I won’t listen to the podcast but I have to disagree with you about her voice.

I think the poster means the delivery, not the actual sound of her voice… a bit smarmy and self-regarding, like a recruiter or an estate agent.

AutumnCrow · 19/10/2022 14:15

I think - and this is just a personal view obviously - that she while she has physical beauty, fame and status, what she really wants is authority.

And the bridge to authority is credibility.

And I suspect she risks losing it the more she exposes herself. It's a huge risk.

susan12345678 · 19/10/2022 14:17

Don't you think you should have listened before starting a thread?

As said, I read a synopsis- I started listening to one of the earlier podcasts & found it almost unlistenable- the summary suffices.

Why on earth do you feel you owe it to MN to start a thread on each podcast?!

Well obviously I would have happily added my thoughts to one of my previous 2 threads on the podcasts - but they have all filled up.

As for accusations of my being ‘obsessed’, do feel free to trawl through my post history: you’ll find that I haven’t posted much at all on this topic since the last podcast thread (in early September, I think?)

IMO the only ‘obsessives’ on this board are Meghan’s full-time defenders, who struggle with the idea of anyone critiquing her published content - yet are happy to post nasty threads speculating about the marriages of other royals.

She's had a minor role in a US cable show, she hasn't invented the cure for cancer. I'm just not sure what she has to say of any merit really, but she's very determined that her voice should be heard Hmm

MrsTumblebee · 19/10/2022 14:23

Yes. Even when she unfortunately and knowingly speaks with a forked tongue.

as a genuine question - how is her voice any less important than any of the other hundreds of podcasts out there?

MoChridhe · 19/10/2022 14:37

We were promised that the Tom Bowel book would be her undoing. But still she thrives. That must annoy you immensely.

A lot of publicity and attention, not too sure about the thriving. Netflix predicament and all sounds very uncomfortable for her and Harry.

Well I wouldn’t call a top 10 podcast “not thriving “. It will probably be renewed. They still have their Netflix deals. They will never be destitute and will certainly afford their energy bills this winter. She looks absolutely stunning in the variety photo shoot.

Well I mean she’s absolutely stunning yes but the rest could be said of Trump.

Not sure the money and negative publicity surrounding Netflix can be construed positively. Seeing as The Crown is hugely damaging to his father and mother but hey it’s money!

7Worfs · 19/10/2022 15:15

She does look good, but on a few photos I had to do a double take on her face - the editing is so heavy handed.
Is this what magazines are like these days? Editing used to be so subtle before. Or is it the ever-increasing photo quality, which makes people look hyper-realistic?

shockthemonkey · 19/10/2022 15:16

"People who have time to write these ridiculous treatise cannot be gainfully employed. Meghan is not responsible for your miserable life. Get help and try to live a purpose driven life that actually contributes to happiness."

Actually, Sheen, I thought Clyspa made some very interesting observations about the real purpose of the podcasts and MM's apparent disingenuity... then she went on to point out the growing societal tendency to turn attractive people into sexualised objects. And I agree, rather than "even things out" by including men, let's just stop it altogether. Though I'm not holding my breath!

BackToGoingOnHoliday · 19/10/2022 15:27

I have listened to a few of the podcasts, and they were tolerable.
I had to switch off last weeks about the adjective ‘crazy’.
For me that was actually insensitive about people who actually are crazy.
It’s maybe was the sort of the point she was making - but I’m not aware that Meghan included any apology to people who actually suffer mental illness.
It seemed to be from the/ her one perspective of it being an insult to use against someone.

Craziness in a person can be heartbreaking, and exist at a much deeper and more ruinous level in an individual’s life.

I don’t think I’m being overly sensitive- I think this kind of podcast/ show should be considering issues in a wider sense - and then clarifying the aim of the podcast.

Out if interest, was there an acknowledgment that some people are actually crazy/ suffer psychiatric illness - and it’s awful for them and their family?

The word 'crazy' should not be applied to someone with a mental health condition/personality disorder - it's abelist and outdated. Therefore it's entirely appropriate to discuss the negative connotations of the word, as the only purpose for it nowadays is to insult either serious mental health conditions or to discredit people who don't act exactly in the way they're expected to.

Thanks for clearing that up. I still found it upsetting
