Meghan’s latest Archwell podcast- Paris Hilton

Having started threads on earlier editions of the Archewell podcast, I felt compelled to comment on the latest - an interview with Paris Hilton - on the theme of the Bimbo.

I’ve not listened - but have read a summary - and the premise strikes me as rather hypocritical.
Meghan apparently mentions taking part in a diplomatic motorcade in Argentina during an internship at the Embassy, a role she claims to have received for her intelligence and education, but neglects to mention that her uncle arranged the (very brief) role for her or the small matter of failing the diplomatic exams. The implication seems to be that she should have been destined for a stellar professional career but sabotaged these possibilities by taking on ‘bimbo’ roles in a short-sighted effort to pay the rent.

The truth of the matter is that she may never have succeeded in a more intellectual or professional career and being a ‘bimbo’ actually served her extremely well - after all, she is someone of middling talent and would never have gained the prominence she has, or access to a wealthy husband, without these ‘bimbo’ roles.

In general, one only has to look at Instagram, Only Fans, Sugar Daddy sites to appreciate the true scale of the ‘bimbo’ economy which was Meghan’s natural habitat. It’s not going anywhere- and it’s an amusing conceit to imagine, now that she’s in her 40s and safely married to a rich man, that it was all somehow beneath her all along

It seems quite odd to start an entire thread about a podcast that you haven't actually listened to.

I read a summary, that’s enough to form an opinion. I struggle to listen to Meghan’s voice because she sounds so insincere to me & it grates.

Agree.

Meanwhile there is a cost of living crisis here and a woman in America and her podcast is the main news here. Shows how incredibly powerful this woman is.

👏

LondonWolf · 19/10/2022 10:11

Agree . And the sneering tone …..
Claudia Jordan ( former Deal or No Deal girl) has made an interesting statement about the show launching her career

Yes several women who got their start there are quite offended/irritated by what was said.

Didn’t stop anyone on the threads about Tom Bower’s or Valentine Low’s recent books of course…

AutumnCrow · 19/10/2022 10:31

Are we allowed to discuss the twenty million media articles about it?

Legrandsophie · 19/10/2022 10:37

I find it refreshing that there is a new thread on the podcast with no tone policing in the OP.

I haven’t listened yet. Will go back and have a listen and then form an opinion.

But my first though is that it does seem like they are fitting their topics to the guests and still trying to do huge issues in very little depth. Talking to Paris about the bimbo stereotype as harmful is a strange choice- unless they talk about how she successfully exploited it to make herself a huge star and earn lots of money. And how she actively puts it on as an image to exploit that niche.

Some of the feedback from some of the other women who were on Deal or No Deal is interesting.

true. people just love to rip her apart.

Serenster · 19/10/2022 10:57

Considering the extracts of the Valentine Low book published intThe Times went into great detail about the experiences of, and impact upon the staff that Meghan bulled in her time in the UK, Samcro, I don’t think your comment is justified. Her conduct deserved to be revealed, and criticised. Some people will never accept that, no matter her actions, though.

Legrandsophie · 19/10/2022 11:04

I don’t think everyone loves to rip her apart. I certainly don’t.

But if you are going to be a public figure then you should expect to have your facts checked and your view point challenged, especially if you make accusations and comments about other people.

I feel much the same about Jack Monroe. If you are selling yourself and your worldview for cash then expect people to ask you about the information you are putting out.

AutumnCrow · 19/10/2022 11:04

MM's not wrong though, is she, in saying stuff like 'what a world, when women are judged so much on their looks' - but OTOH it's nothing new to say that.

What is interesting is how she and her guest feel they have navigated a world full of stereotypes and biases and bigotry, how they came to recognise it, and how their different backgrounds affected this.

So the value, so to speak, of her podcasts, is her. And, importantly, her celebrity guest(s). And I think that MM needs to draw out the specificities of her guests' experiences more, in their own framing.

when it has been proved then I will believe it, till then "innocent until proved guilty"

But it is possible to pursue professional roles that don't stipulate sexualisation and objectification of the person as a specification for the role. Some positions such as 'briefcase girl' do require that. Her point is somewhat confusing because professional roles that overtly sexualise and objectify are only a subset of all roles available to women in pluralistic (as opposed to restrictive) societies. It seems disingenuous to be surprised by the fact that roles that require objectification then go on to fulfil that criterion.

Bunce1 · 19/10/2022 12:03

She just isn't that bright, that interesting and that truthful.

Instead, she wants to curate and control her image/brand and manipulate her history to suit where she now. Tricky when she starred in "Suits" when no one held a gun to her head.

Most odd.

7Worfs · 19/10/2022 12:10

second-rate former actress

That’s unfair.

First-rate actors are the Oscar grade ones, and those that pull in the box office £££, like the Marvel universe actors.

Second-rate are the household names who are in lots of movies as support characters, or leads in top TV shows (Big Bang Theory etc).

Third-rate are the ones that make you think “where do I know him/her from?” 🤔

Meghan was a support character on just one obscure cable TV show for a few seasons. Fourth-rate at best.

In that case, wouldn't your life be more pleasant if you just pretended she didn't exist? It's not as though she's a politician who's impacting on your life and who you're therefore unable to ignore. She's a celebrity in another country who doesn't impact on you in any way.

It's odd to me that people like you obsess over this woman so.

tuttifruit · 19/10/2022 12:11

Agree OP. She is really struggling to appear relevant and carve her own identity. She seems to complain about everything and anyone that helped her get to where she is now. Odd

Readinginthesun · 19/10/2022 12:59

She has a new interview published in an American magazine. She seems to be striking out on her own a lot . I wonder what Harry is doing ? X

LondonWolf · 19/10/2022 13:17

It's odd to me that people can't understand why others may be interested in high profile issues/people/current affairs that they themselves are not. Like saying to a person why prefers to knit "I find it odd that you don't prefer to sew".

Love her or hate her Meghan is one the most high profile woman on the world stage right now. She is everywhere. I listen to multiple podcasts each week, serious commenters and more frivolous stuff and it's rare she isn't getting a mention, plus being all over SM. I dislike her yet find her utterly fascinating Grin which I imagine is how many people feel and I suspect that's just how Meghan likes it.

MrsTumblebee · 19/10/2022 13:33

Meghan has said she Left her job as a briefcase girl because it made her feel like a Bimbo. Does anyone know if this was before or after the BBQ/
Beefburger video she did for Mens Health where coming across as a Bimbo would have been preferable to how she actually did come across.

Readinginthesun · 19/10/2022 13:37

I think she was in Deal if No Deal around 2005 and the Burger advert was 2013

Croque · 19/10/2022 13:40

So which serious roles did she go on to play after this? 🙂

Yes. Seemingly she’s happy to coach any actress who may play her on screen in he future as she’d like them to get her right.

Its just a pity it’s not a consideration she thinks others are deserving of. That anything goes as long as she’s the one slinging mud and truth and accuracy only applies to her.

Why are you being so nasty?

No one is asking you to agree but good grief please get a grip.
