Unpopular Opinion - William and Kate

1000 replies

EdaYildiz · 13/10/2022 21:27

Don't come at me, I'm sharing my unpopular opinion because I want to know what you all think but just don't see a spark between William & Kate.

Loved them since the day they starting dating way back when they were undergrads at St Andrews but I just don't see their connection in pictures and it seems a little forced when she has her hand on his back or when they do hold hands.

I don't expect them to hold hands and snog because I know they're mostly photographed whilst they're working but he looks bored and she looks like she's trying her best.

Does anyone agree with me?

Peter Ball was a convicted paedophile when Charles helped him.

When did Charles help him?

Ohnonevermind · 10/11/2022 18:41

Unfortunately as an Irish person, horrible abuse came to light in my own parish, as it did in many others.
Some lovely people I know (friends parents) struggled to believe the rumours initially, the priest picked on those he deemed the most vulnerable - large poor families who were struggling to cope. The poorest were punished for being poor and treated far more harshly in school

It breaks my heart for all those abused, the priest in our parish was finally jailed. I had a college friend who took his abuser to court.

its a complicated situation but I have really strong feelings but not sure if this thread is the right place ?

@mars Do you have a link for the £3 million? Everything I read said at least £12 million.

The report at the time of the announcement from the Guardian makes it clear that the numbers being thrown around are fingers in the air:

International lawyers told the Guardian that the cost to Andrew was likely to be more than $10m (£7m) even before paying his own legal bill that is expected to run into millions.

Ann Olivarius, the senior partner of McAllister Olivarius law firm who has acted in cases on both sides of the Atlantic, said she expected Andrew’s settlement to be worth at least £10m and potentially more based on previous cases settled with wealthy individuals

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/feb/15/prince-andrew-and-virginia-giuffre-reach-settlement-in-principle

When the settlement agreement was finalised by the court the BBC reported

The amount being paid by Prince Andrew in the deal agreed last month has not been revealed.
But the court documents say each side will "bear her/his own costs and fees".

The upshot is we have absolutely no idea what money changed hands to settle the case.

Yes, exactly. You should leave it alone.

Under-qualified? Yes, in regards to this field of study. That’s why I don’t dare to make such assertions about a person’s cognitive abilities. Unlearned? I think not. I believe it was you that added a less than insightful narrative on neurodiversity in relation to Prince Harry. Unfortunately when challenged by others you relied on the typical MN defence of deflection. You should be guided by your own advice – if you have an inadequate understanding of a topic you should refrain from commenting. That was the gist of your argument, was it not? Or better yet, be led by your talents – knitting sock puppets, isn’t it?

vera99 · 10/11/2022 18:53

What we do know is the Royal Family have effectively put him under house arrest and the establishment has utterly shunned him. Oh and he doesn't sweat and can remember he was at Pizza Express Woking a couple of decades on from the night in question. But back to the topic as suggested by MNHQ they do look miserable or are putting on a front, particularly Kate as to the reasons why not mine to speculate. Not something you could ever accuse the late Queen of - hence her virtual deification or Diana who never looked like she was playing at caring in her many charitable appearances before her tragic death when she wasn't with Charles.

antelopevalley · 10/11/2022 18:56

antelopevalley · 10/11/2022 19:01

@MarshaMelrose This was posted in the previous page.

www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jan/14/friendship-with-prince-charles-made-paedophile-bishop-peter-ball-impregnable

Prince Charles told Ball in a letter in February 1995, two years after the bishop had accepted the police caution, which was read to the inquiry: “I wish I could do more. I feel so desperately strongly about the monstrous wrongs that have been done to you and the way you have been treated.”
Charles later arranged for the Duchy of Cornwall to buy a house to be rented by Ball and his identical twin, Michael, also a bishop.
In a six-page statement to the inquiry, Charles said he had been deceived over a long period of time “about the true nature” of Ball’s activities, but denied he had sought to influence the outcome of police investigations. He said he was unsure whether he was told about Ball’s caution until 2009.

@MarshaMelrose
You can keep throwing your invented accusations as long as you like . You are not right . I had never heard of this lawyer. I googled his name to check it was who the poster said . Then I put the whole link for context .

How you can keep trying to smooth over what Andrew has done and downplay what others connected to the royals have done is between you and your conscience.

You won't stop me attacking the rotten edifice of 'royalty'

Roussette is always looking for traffic on her threads about Andrew. Why don’t you post on there instead of derailing as Mumsnet HQ have requested??

They're covered in dust in the attic somewhere.

Serenster · 10/11/2022 19:13

Antelopevalley here’s a link to the full text of the statement Charles made to the to the 2018 Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse that you’ve cherry-picked from above:

www.gloucestershirelive.co.uk/news/gloucester-news/prince-charless-letter-child-sex-1833911

And it doesn’t matter how often the £12m figure is reported, it’s quite clear it’s pure speculation.

Where one needs to declare oneself superior/smarter/more educated in order to feel like one has won an argument, it usually indicates the precise opposite 😉

I know Charles said he did not know what a caution meant and that he believed Ball that the accusations were lies.
How stupid do you have to be to believe that?

notanotheroneagain · 10/11/2022 19:23

I don't think VG is 'questionable'. More like scared for her life !

Did you not hear / read how Ronan Farrow was hounded. He had cars following him, and all sorts of menacing going on. He was not even a victim, just investigating what was going on, he said he was scared af. Can you imagine for VG herself ?
Shameful victim blaming here !

Novella4 · 10/11/2022 19:32

@Serenster
You also seem to be implying that the lawyer who defended OJ Simpson and Trump is somehow impugned by doing so .

You are tying yourselves up in knots in your efforts to rehabilitate Andrew

Serenster · 10/11/2022 19:33

Virginia Giuffre lives in Western Australia. Are you suggesting she’s being hounded by supporters of Prince Andrew in Australia?

She had her photo taken outside a hair salon in Perth by Backgrid photo agency (the ones famous for doing set up shots for their clients) in what was reported to be an “unusual public appearance” when the Prince Andrew lawsuit was ongoing, so I think it’s unlikely she’s scared for her life.

Serenster · 10/11/2022 19:34

I really don’t think you’ve understood my post Novella.

Claims the person who said that by their (i.e. yours) own standards, MM is not intelligent. To avoid having my post removed for being derisive I shall happily allow you to cling to that ‘belief’. After all, it may actually be the first time that you’ve ever paid her a compliment 😆

Novella4 · 10/11/2022 19:36

@Serenster
Did you read the link you put up ?
This is how it concludes

Richard Scorer, a specialist abuse lawyer at Slater and Gordon who represents a number of Ball’s victims, said Charles’s explanation that he was not aware of the meaning of a caution left his clients “dissatisfied”.
He said: “Prince Charles had access to the best legal advice that money can buy and, as a man in his position, a particular responsibility to check the facts. It is difficult to see his failure to do so as anything other than wilful blindness.
“His evidence, together with that of Lord Carey, the then archbishop of Canterbury, and other establishment figures who have given evidence this week, will do little to dissuade survivors from the conclusion that the British establishment aided and protected Ball and even now have failed to give a transparent account of their actions.”

MarshaMelrose · 10/11/2022 19:37

antelopevalley · 10/11/2022 18:56

LOADS of media were quoting £12 million.

No. There's no media quoting anyone in the know. There's plenty of media speculation about £12m. But his lawyers say £3m.

Serenster · 10/11/2022 19:37

And I have absolutely no interest in “rehabilitating Andrew”. I have no time for him at all and think he needs to accept he has no further public role to play. That doesn’t mean however that I think it’s open season to act like certain allegations are fact when they aren’t. 🤷‍♀️

Serenster · 10/11/2022 19:40

Of course I did, Novella. Did you?

I was pointing to the full text of Charles’ statement, which gives his detailed explanation of his recollections of his relationship with a controversial figure. It’s right at the bottom, you have to scroll down.

As for the comments you’ve quoted - lawyers gonna lawyer 🤣 I’m more interested in what the witnesses of fact say.
