Harry and Meghan doing alright in the US, continuing their universal service

notanotheroneagain · 12/10/2022 07:24

Have heard a few comments from panellists and commenters thinking that Harry somehow wants to come back to the UK?

I highly doubt this. I think they are doing more than ok in the US.

A pity a positive thread has been deleted regarding the podcasts, maybe the positive conversation can continue here?

In particularly I wanted to highlight the announcement that they will be recipients for the Robert J Kennedy Human Rights award.

“When The Duke and Duchess accepted our award laureate invitation back in March, we were thrilled. The couple has always stood out for their willingness to speak up and change the narrative on racial justice and mental health around the world,” Kerry Kennedy, president of Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, and Robert F. Kennedy's daughter, said in a statement shared today. “They embody the type of moral courage that my father once called the ‘one essential, vital quality for those who seek to change a world that yields most painfully to change.’”

I think I’ll believe mumsnets statement over yours if it’s all the same to you 😃

Redfrangipani · 13/10/2022 00:32

My apologies in this @MarshaMelrose / it seems I got the wrong end of the stick.

The egg story was just such a nonsensical bit of gossip.

The last people on that thread were me, the OP, and a couple others. Highly doubt that the ones left at the end were the sock puppets.

If the sock puppets had only been at the beginning of that long thread then had buggered off, it's not likely MNHQ would have deleted it.

They did not write that the last people left on the thread were sock puppets, though. Of course you probably know that and understand that them explaining there were many on the thread does not mean that the last posters were responsible for it.

Doubt they would have let all of the same posters continue posting after the thread was deleted.

Not just black and brown people. They looked at the Irish as being subhuman, tried to force genocide on a nation and still own a huge amount of the country now.

Yes, most of my ancestors were Irish and fled to Australia.

RumorRomeo · 13/10/2022 00:37

You’ve revealed that yourself by admitting it was your elite niche circle left in the end before it was shut down. I was only guessing as I was made to leave early on anyway. Apparently an East Asian joining in a thread about East Asian stereotypes wasn’t acceptable. Please stop tagging me and leave me alone.

HannaHanna · 13/10/2022 00:38

And not suggesting it was only at the beginning, either. But not the ones that were engaging at the end. Anyway, I’ve said enough.

What? No, it was a mix of people arguing (or whatever you want to call it) actually. Did you not read it?

HannaHanna · 13/10/2022 00:41

Sorry for the quote, didn’t read your request not to tag. And I actually didn’t tag you but once before. Anyway, sorry.

Doubt they would have let all of the same posters continue posting after the thread was deleted.

MNHQ have let puppets people off from sockpuppeting in the past.

Posters get away with confessing to changing name mid-thread. There was a poster on another thread who said they'd done that on the deleted positive one.

Ohnonevermind · 13/10/2022 00:43

I’d prefer not to be tagged by you either

EchoPark · 13/10/2022 00:48

By tagged do you mean

(a) @ ed
(b) quoted with the quote function
(c) both
(d) none of the above

HannaHanna · 13/10/2022 00:51

No clue about that. I took it to mean there were user(s) posting repeatedly under two or more names.

I would be surprised to learn that any of the last users posting were doing that and it was absolutely not a meeting of the minds. Maybe my memory is off, and there were more posting.

MarshaMelrose · 13/10/2022 00:54

Posters get away with confessing to changing name mid-thread. There was a poster on another thread who said they'd done that on the deleted positive one.

To be honest, I've got myself into a situation of posting under two names on a thread. I kept forgetting to type in my second name so it defaulted to my first name. And then I couldn't remember which I'd posted under. MNHQ suspended me til I acknowledged what I'd done and warned me not to do it again. So it's not just ignored so you can carry on doing it. Personally, I just stopped posting on the thread. I didn't confess and apologise to the other posters because I didn't want the two names linking. So I think it's an easy situation to get into and nit always deliberate.

Agreed. That happened to me a few weeks ago, too. I mentioned it at the time and again today in the other thread.

EchoPark · 13/10/2022 00:22

That's the one RumorRomeo.

The OP wants this thread to be like that one.

A PP read that memo and has ordered that we don't mention the Archetype podcast on here.

Echo Park, I said that I had bought up the latest archetype podcast and got laughed at. I said let’s leave it off here’ as in Let us leave it off here’ because one mention of it got a post straight away meant to humiliate. I did not order it to be left of it. How could I?

Perhaps you’d like to go back and read the original interaction. . They seemed to be laughing at mental health.

HannaHanna · 13/10/2022 01:03

@Redfrangipani I saw that. I would like to discuss the podcast and we had some good discussion on the delete thread despite so many unrelated interjections.

But I think we’d have to find another place to do it completely to have that kind of conversation.

HannaHanna · 13/10/2022 01:03

Sorry for my typos.

HannaHanna · 13/10/2022 01:05

@MarshaMelrose I didn’t mean I got suspended. I didn’t know that was a thing here. How long?

Ohnonevermind · 13/10/2022 01:08

I’ve only one name on here since I joined. I haven’t name changed.

EchoPark · 13/10/2022 01:16

Marsha that's one of the situations I mean though where MNHQ often lets someone off if they confess and apologise to a first offence, they let them back on to post. Could have happened to people on the thread so them posting again like Hanna says doesn't unequivocally mean they didn't puppet a sock.

MarshaMelrose · 13/10/2022 01:18

HannaHanna · 13/10/2022 01:05

@MarshaMelrose I didn’t mean I got suspended. I didn’t know that was a thing here. How long?

It was weird, Hanna. I couldn't post. It kept kicking me off. But it was around the time when all sorts were happening to the system so I thought it was just that. So I tried to re-register. Nope. So I left it. And I even thought it wasn't a bad thing to be unable to log on! MN is a bit of a time-waster!
I get loads of emails every day and I don't read them but it turns out MN communicates through that rather than messages you with what's happened. Mind you, if I couldn't log on, I guess they couldn't message me! 🤦‍♀️ So it took a couple of days before I noticed the message. But I guess it came through straightawayin real time.
They just said I'd posted under two names and they could see how it had happened but it was unfair on other posters. I explained what I'd done. They accepted the explanation and released my account.
So it wasn't a punishment suspension, more a 'get my attention' suspension. 😄 I do try to be more careful but, I have to confess, I have done the same since but I just requested a deletion.

Oh dear. I've got about 15 names. Some are reserved for specific topics. I don't always want all the info I've given to be tied together.
But a little clue for you, Ohno, if ever a poster comes on praising Tom Cruise, ..... well, you know! 😉 😂

Redfrangipani · 13/10/2022 01:26

I've googled it and come up with nothing. I've asked for actual links to papers etc, why can't you link them? Because they don't exist in the way you are saying. She gets appalling press coverage because she is not a nice person, but I've not seen a mainstream British paper say anything racist. Just link it you can find it, don't ask me to google.

Google Wikipedia (almost) straight outta Compton

and I suggest you read the REACTION section on that page ‘exotic blood’ is mentioned there.

I don’t know yet how to link of mumsnet but if you take a second to google it, it will be there.

From wiki, an excerpt from the New York Times

“that "From the very first headline about her being '(almost) straight outta Compton' and having 'exotic' DNA, the racist treatment of Meghan has been impossible to ignore".[11]

So , it’s there, although I suspect the original headlines have disappeared. Those tabloids don’t like being held to account. But surely Wikipedia and The New York Times will be enough to convince the were the actual headlines at the time. It cites the 2016 The British Daily Mail headline
