Harry and Meghan doing alright in the US, continuing their universal service

Have heard a few comments from panellists and commenters thinking that Harry somehow wants to come back to the UK?

I highly doubt this. I think they are doing more than ok in the US.

A pity a positive thread has been deleted regarding the podcasts, maybe the positive conversation can continue here?

In particularly I wanted to highlight the announcement that they will be recipients for the Robert J Kennedy Human Rights award.

“When The Duke and Duchess accepted our award laureate invitation back in March, we were thrilled. The couple has always stood out for their willingness to speak up and change the narrative on racial justice and mental health around the world,” Kerry Kennedy, president of Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, and Robert F. Kennedy's daughter, said in a statement shared today. “They embody the type of moral courage that my father once called the ‘one essential, vital quality for those who seek to change a world that yields most painfully to change.’”

Also, rather sad that autofill would say those things about black women (angry/ loud/mean).

Google must have changed its algorithm since the book Meghan was discussing was published, as the only prompts I got were as screenshot below with I typed out “why are black women” The moment I added “so” at the end of the sentence suddenly there were no prompts at all!

Oh no !!!!

MM studied French for 4yrs in high school.
Then an additional on and off for 4yrs some time in last 20yrs or so.

Hang the witch ! She's a liar !!!!!

Seriously, rather self deprecating of her, as I heard her speak French once and it was quite good imo.

But the 8 years was quoted when she was in an interview regarding Suits, the 4 years was her recent quote.

Perimenopause excuse? Baby brain? Or is she just a fantasist.

Readinginthesun · 25/10/2022 18:46

“I never thought about it, knowing that MM is half black, but she is also part Nigerian. How interesting.”

In 2015 she said she has Maltese ancestors .

Quite a mix.

Croque · 25/10/2022 18:46

She cannot speak it for toffee despite having lived with a French speaking boyfriend for two years - obviously not a linguist!

shockthemonkey · 25/10/2022 18:48

Re the French studying: the "four years" comment is clearly referring to High School only.

The "eight years" comment is in total - ie she spent another four years, outside of high school, studying French.

Does it really matter anyway? It's just chit-chat and we don't need absolute accuracy -- also it's quite possible, by the way, she was spot-on accurate in what she was saying... and not at all serious if she got it wrong.

Lying about serious things... that would be different. To say, for instance, that someone on the RF is a racist, or we got married three days before we got married, or nobody wanted to help me when I was suicidal, those would be serious lies, if they were indeed lies.

@Serenster

Implying Safia Noble is a liar is quite pathetic. Really.

I am well aware of that but the percentages are starting to look strange .

What on earth is wrong with you?

I made a comment, having been interested to see if the scenario discussed in the podcast is still the case. But is has clearly been changed since the book Meghan read. There was absolutely no subtext - except in your mind.

notanotheroneagain · 25/10/2022 19:06

So unimportant you not only had to come here and post about it, you also went and googled and posted screenshots.

Google most likely blacklisted those particular sentences so they no longer come up in autofill. This probably followed several complaints. It may have been as a result of the podcast, although it could have been earlier.
FYI - Programming is one of my hobbies 😀

I'm mixed race white / black and all sorts of percentages I think. Most mixed race are , and I think it's always interesting when black people track which particular region/ country in Africa their ancestors were from. I haven't done those tests as I hate the idea of submitting my DNA to private companies databases, but I'm curious to find . Maybe one day..

Presumably so that no-one accused her of lying about what she found!

notanotheroneagain · 25/10/2022 19:18

Though the podcast subjects were announced earlier, it only came out today. I doubt it's because of the podcast itself, but I can imagine that there woulds have been lots of complaints. Dr Safia is quite popular, so I imagine that book could have also been among those who had some kind of influence.

The podcast had Issa, Ziwe and Prof Emily Bernard.

Sorry, but @Serenster spends most of her posts criticising the couple and anything to do with them- accusing them as liars.
She never explained anything like thank goodness such tropes are now off google, as an automatic search. So it seemed like she was calling Safia and Meghan liars for saying that happened when you googled.

Absolutely, no highly strung accusations and insistence upon being right and forcing others to agree with her.

Just listened to the latest podcast. It was the first episode that I managed to get through, from beginning to end. I must give Meghan credit. She built a rapport with Issa very quickly which made for a good conversation style interview. I had assumed up until the last few minutes that they had a previous relationship – but no, it was the first time they’d met. I was also surprised that Meghan appeared to have a real understanding of the subject matter. Of course I’m sure her experiences would differ from those of Issa Rae and the other guests, for obvious reasons. It would be a great topic to discuss on another thread.

MarshaMelrose · 25/10/2022 21:08

I'm glad it was worth listening to, @Marulatree. Interviewing is a hard skill so it's good that she's beginning to master it.

Don't be ridiculous !

Also, if you do type in what MM quotes from Dr Safia's book - 'why are black women so dot dot dot'................you do get a lot of articles about angry black woman.

Well @Marulatree what I will say is that the episodes are really good. Hard hitting with a lot of 'omg, did she just go there?' moments. You are left feeling they need more time for the subjects. Very enlightening and worth the listen.
