Harry and Meghan doing alright in the US, continuing their universal service

Have heard a few comments from panellists and commenters thinking that Harry somehow wants to come back to the UK?

I highly doubt this. I think they are doing more than ok in the US.

A pity a positive thread has been deleted regarding the podcasts, maybe the positive conversation can continue here?

In particularly I wanted to highlight the announcement that they will be recipients for the Robert J Kennedy Human Rights award.

“When The Duke and Duchess accepted our award laureate invitation back in March, we were thrilled. The couple has always stood out for their willingness to speak up and change the narrative on racial justice and mental health around the world,” Kerry Kennedy, president of Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, and Robert F. Kennedy's daughter, said in a statement shared today. “They embody the type of moral courage that my father once called the ‘one essential, vital quality for those who seek to change a world that yields most painfully to change.’”

somebody 'accidentally' generated a pretty negative press rumour about the (Grenfell) kitchen being linked to terrorism

I must admit I thought that one a bit mean, since there's no proof at all that Meghan knew about any alleged links
She's legitimately criticised for a lot, but this seemed a heck of a stretch

Well @Marulatree what I will say is that the episodes are really good. Hard hitting with a lot of 'omg, did she just go there?' moments. You are left feeling they need more time for the subjects. Very enlightening and worth the listen.

I disagree.

The episodes are just the reflection of an episode of - oh such and such is coming - what can we moan about together.

There is no layers supported by research, no proper production, no intellectual search, no purpose, all is a bit strange and very negative. No follow ups, no purposeful take aways (except get out there and moan). As one belonging to one or two of the factions she has tried to represent, I don't feel she is adding much to the equation other than posting to get paid. And the moaning. Oh my goodness so much of it. Clearly she rules and she is producing this, her ideas that will fly low and short flights.

That's my own opinion of course, but I sincerely don't feel there is anything behind it, for all the celebrities and well known people that attend these podcasts, it all seems just a waste.

I don't think Issa was moaning today, the episode was really good and I wished it went for longer. This is such an important topic and reality for so many black women in America and UK, but I understand personally appreciated hearing a successful dark skinned woman like Issa really talking about her experience in Hollywood. I have watched all of insecure and always being awe of her, hearing her talk about how she fought for the kind of shows she felt represented real black women was enlightening. These conversations on this podcast are not groundbreaking, and they are constantly ongoing in the community, and I'm glad Meghan gave Issa her flowers because she ( Issa ) absolutely fantastic.

I agree Issa is great, but even the starting point of talking about labelling black women something is just.... negative. The underlying messages here don't get you far away. Even with a host star like Issa.

My point is Meghan's approach, not the women she invites to her podcasts. She just can't carry it.

Let's see what Netflix says, if they do another season. My bet is they don't 😅

Coronateachingagain · 25/10/2022 22:15

Coronateachingagain · 25/10/2022 22:16

Oh sorry was it Spotify

I am interested in what you think would be appropriate topics?

I am sure that to Meghan, Issa and a the other black women in the US, this label IS something they want to be discussed because only when you put it out in the open and talk about it do things start to change.

My opinion is that all the topics they are discussing were negative, but she has shown examples of how these guests were able to overcome the stereotypes. So to me, not a negative conversation.

I would love to hear from other posters who do not care for the topics of this podcast what topics they would pick for next season?

It’s this type of comment that reinforces the dangers of passivism, as I alluded to earlier. Discussions about structural racism, its symptoms and misogyny, and how they affect different societal groups are merely exercises in moaning? Unfortunately not everyone is able to be so dismissive. It may surprise you to know that not everyone experiences the world in perhaps the same way you do. If you’re not able to grasp that realisation then I don’t think you should be advocating for anything ‘intellectual’.

Coronateachingagain · 25/10/2022 23:46

@onlylarkin it is not about the topics, it is about the format. Doesn't point to anywhere.

Coronateachingagain · 25/10/2022 23:47

@Marulatree what exactly are you talking about? Apologies I cannot follow.

onlylarkin · 25/10/2022 23:56

I do not hold the same opinion. I do wonder what you would change though. Is there a different podcast that you would point me to that showed am example of what you are talking about?

I am actually rather new to podcasts. Most of my preferences seem to be a discussion type podcast between the hosts that will at time have people being interviewed. So the style Meghan uses doesn't really put me off, but maybe it is because I do not know any better.

I think what Marulatree was saying is a longer version of what I said. Lots of black, Asian and Hispanic women in the US do think this is an important conversation. To them, it is not negative to bring this conversation front and center. I can't speak for her, but that is how I read it.

I chuckle just to see how self centred they are - when Harry says to the Disney top dog, who is looking very surprised, something like "you look surprised, you didn't know that she..." The guy looked surprised because you were pitching to him in such way and at such event, Harry! He was trying to remove himself from the situation, but at the end when she followed up (again!) he had to volunteer the "send me an email".

How embarrassing. It is all about them - completely blind to what's going on.

I missed where RandomPenguinHouse was bullied. was that on mn? on a thread a ripping MM apart?

notanotheroneagain · 26/10/2022 11:11

With all due respect CoronaT, I don't think you know what you are talking about.

The podcast has a very clear and proved formula. 2 celebrity guests (usually one very well known internationally, and one lesser, globally), a specialist Dr/Prof etc. Then there are also audio quotes from others on the subject.

The podcast is regularly in the top 5/10 of English speaking countries, and one of the handful of English podcasts that manages to break the top 100 for countries with another language. While the most successful podcasts are either every 3 days or daily.

I simply cannot imagine Spotify cancelling MM any time soon. The only thing I can think of would be for her to be too busy to make too many podcasts in the future. If anything, I think frankly, the audience would like to see her occasionally, though she does have a nice voice.

In terms of the podcast itself, it has that 'Dairy of a CEO' vibe about it - not the subject matter, but the format. I find it more fast paced and engaging than 'Pracatically Besties' and not sweary like 'Call me Daddy' and Rogan. So there is definitely space for her now.

Ultimately, Spotify highlighted her podcast as among the best contributors.

There's a surprise. Parading consumed experience and trying to dominate again, doh! 😂

notanotheroneagain · 26/10/2022 12:37

I was not aware of this :

The Duchess of Sussex sat down for an intimate fireside chat hosted by the Women@Spotify Employee Resource . The Duchess discussed feminism and how we can examine and subvert the labels that try to hold women back. To learn more about how to take action with Archewell Foundation

Surprised you find that amusing. Is it not offensive for white people to “ black up “ ?

notanotheroneagain · 26/10/2022 14:33

Oh lighten up !

This was done by black people. Proud of they heritage.

I hope that @RandomPenguinHouse is ok, and has been able to put to one side the nastiness directed towards her. Flowers

Samcro · 26/10/2022 16:08

I hope they are ok, its horrid when people do that. I know how upset rousette has been when faced with bullying.
