Harry and Meghan doing alright in the US, continuing their universal service

notanotheroneagain · 12/10/2022 07:24

Have heard a few comments from panellists and commenters thinking that Harry somehow wants to come back to the UK?

I highly doubt this. I think they are doing more than ok in the US.

A pity a positive thread has been deleted regarding the podcasts, maybe the positive conversation can continue here?

In particularly I wanted to highlight the announcement that they will be recipients for the Robert J Kennedy Human Rights award.

“When The Duke and Duchess accepted our award laureate invitation back in March, we were thrilled. The couple has always stood out for their willingness to speak up and change the narrative on racial justice and mental health around the world,” Kerry Kennedy, president of Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, and Robert F. Kennedy's daughter, said in a statement shared today. “They embody the type of moral courage that my father once called the ‘one essential, vital quality for those who seek to change a world that yields most painfully to change.’”

So why are you linking an unrelated video?
While 'correcting' posters.

It’s not that difficult. Various posters referred to the comments made by Harry and Meghan at the Lion King premiere. You (rudely) alerted this was made up. I posted a video in which you can clearly hear Harry pitching to Bob Iger. So this wasn’t an “unrelated video”, as it demonstrates that the incident had not been made up

You said that it this wasn’t the specific words one poster had mentoned. I clarified that those words had been said to the next people in the line up. You still seem to be denying the whole thing though, I see.

While we’re on the subject of correcting posters though, you said that .”she had already done the voiceover for Disney so how is he ‘touting’ after the deal has been done and dusted?” In actual fact it was not reported that the Duchess had signed a deal with Disney to do a voice over for their film about Elephants until January 2020 (six months after the pitch at the Lion King premiere).

So the reports that she pocketed $3 million from that are just nasty rumours ?

Elephants without Borders has yet to show the (publicly pledged) $3m donation in their accounts.

Marulatree · 24/10/2022 13:48

Why is this such a concern to some of you? Any work that the duchess secures is her affair. There were calls previously to stop public funds going to the couple (I’m willing to believe some of those voices came from the MN regulars); now they have sought financial independence you still feel the need to criticise and complain. I suspect, what appears to be your resentment of the couple, is indicative of problems in your own lives than in the Sussexes. You’re not going to stop the couple ‘touting’ for business and you certainly won’t prevent big businesses from wishing to work with them. So what do all your efforts achieve?

ajandjjmum · 24/10/2022 14:05

@Serenster
I love your posts. Totally factual. Unlike so many others who try and talk down to people who disagree with their own point of view. Thank you.

Serenster · 24/10/2022 14:20

Oh, thank you @ajandjjmum, that’s very kind of you!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 24/10/2022 14:55

Serenster · 24/10/2022 10:27

You just bloody made that up !

Clearly audible in the live footage from the event, notanotheroneagain. I think you owe Puzzledandpissedoff an apology…

It's appreciated, Serenster, but frankly I'd save your breath
Since the farce over the claimed images of "William in blackface" which turned out to be someone else much shorter (Oh but he was probably crouching down!! Hmm) I've learned never to engage with this particular poster or even read their posts, since IMO there's just no point

We'll always disagree on some points, but at least most of us can do it without denying plain evidence or being rude ...

Puzzledandpissedoff · 24/10/2022 14:58

Fascinating .... though in fairness I can't remember the date of the pledge, so would it have had time to appear yet?

well said

In actual fact it was not reported that the Duchess had signed a deal with Disney to do a voice over for their film about Elephants until January 2020 (six months after the pitch at the Lion King premiere).

And actually the Duchess had been tracking the elephant charity since 2017. Then went on to pitch her voice-over idea during dinner with the filmmakers that same year, they listened to her audio and decided that she indeed would be good for the voiceover.

In the autumn of 2019 MM went did the voice-over recording.

What I don't understand though is why this is an issue. It seems like the same idea of the Clothes Capsule or the Cookbook - which other royals semi stole btw. Money making ideas to stop charities from closing down.
Don't see what the problem is.

But it looks like you are trying to twist it.

Show us the video where they say this. Simples !

Ah but @Serenster , that’s from the DM so has CLEARLY been doctored !
Wait for it ….

Serenster · 24/10/2022 16:37

Why is this such a concern to some of you? Any work that the duchess secures is her affair.

At the time, she was a senior working Royal though, bound by strict rules that prohibited her gaining any form of private income or personal benefit from her position. Hence why these exchanges look bad. Particularly given that it’s now known that they were planning their exit, an so were actively looking to set up deals.

I havent noticed anyone saying “Why is Prince Charles accepting money for his charities such a concern for you? Any donations he secures is his affair” for example. Apparently here it’s very wrong to query someone bending the rules, though…

Marulatree · 24/10/2022 17:24

@Serenster But you and others ‘query’ everything that she does – past and present. So let’s not use the guise of exposing someone ‘bending the rules’ because I doubt that’s your true motivation. If it were, why do you not populate threads that scrutinise the actions of our politicians? Their bending of the rules has far more serious consequences than raising money for charity.

Ohnonevermind · 24/10/2022 18:33

@Marulatree

The whataboutery defence 🥱

How do you know what other threads people are on? That’s a pretty pointless argument to make unless you know.

notanotheroneagain · 24/10/2022 18:36

Ok, lets take it out of context for a moment ................

And what are they there to 'pitch' exactly ?
Oh yeah ! something or the other that has so far benefited a charity and will do more in the future.

And no, I'm not gonna bloody apologise because your videos still does not show what MM is referring to, regarding her comment.
It does not show that she somehow is saying that ' oh in the future, me and Harry will be away from the rf, and we want to make money out of the voiceovers"
Nice try though.

Marulatree · 24/10/2022 18:53

@Ohnonevermind Point me to the numerous threads that you and your comrades are on where you regularly scrutinise the actions of anyone other than H&M. Please! Given the frequency that you populate each and every thread that even mentions the Duke and Duchess of Sussex I would be amazed if you had time for much else. But happy to see these links. We could then do a comparison where I show you how you spend each and every day. And, yes, these ‘discussions’ about H&M are indeed boring (cue bored emoji) but still you persist – everyday! To what avail?

Ohnonevermind · 24/10/2022 19:09

whataboutery, dismissing visual evidence as fake news and alternative facts/my truth/different perspectives, where have I seen this defence before 🤔

I’m sorry, but the poster clearly stated what was said in the audio, and you said they ‘made it up’

The video has been posted, with the exact words you said were made up, and you’ve now changed it to the poster saying oh in the future, me and Harry will be away from the rf, and we want to make money out of the voiceovers
No one said that.

I’ve attached a screenshot so you can see exactly what you said was made up, and how it in fact, wasn’t.You should apologise for calling that poster a fantasist when you’re the one whose rewritten the conversation

ajandjjmum · 24/10/2022 19:41

I think there's the equivalent of fingers in ears going 'la la la la la la' going on here! Obvious to all. Grin

PicturesOfDogs · 24/10/2022 19:41

For the avoidance of doubt.
The audio can clearly be heard on the daily mail link a few posts back.

I don’t really care about H&M one way or the other, but don’t understand why you would lie/call others liars when the evidence is there, I don’t get your motive?!?

As said earlier on my own behalf, please let it go PicturesOfDogs, because there's simply no point

We all make mistakes, but the real difference is that most of us on here will post with our hands up with an "I honestly didn't know that" or an apology if due, while other posts will twist and turn, drag in irrelevant issues, inventions and whataboutery, and if that fails just plain insult others

It's happened so many times that I expect most can see it for what it is by now - a shame really, but IME not something worth engaging with

Coronateachingagain · 24/10/2022 23:29

Oh gosh even Beyoncé was staring at all this behaviour. How embarrassing! They really were living in their own world

HeddaGarbled · 24/10/2022 23:51

Surely, Meghan was joking to deflect from her embarrassment of a husband?

Suemademedoit · 25/10/2022 00:32

@notanotheroneagain

Why are you so very vested in defending H&M? Are you paid to do it? Are you defending Meghan because you think she needs your protection from racism? Are you a second child as hard some by as Harry likes to make out?

Why do you care about them enough to put THIS MUCH energy into speaking up for them?
