Mike Tindall - I'm a Celebrity

Arnaquer · 12/10/2022 03:25

Rumours circulating that he's signed up for the next series of I'm a Celebrity.
I know he and Zara have to make their own money but I find this tasteless and tacky.
Puts me in mind of the Royal It's a Knockout.
Surely they can't be that desperate for cash?

Mike Tindall was kicked out of the England rugby elite player squad for misconduct (as a result of misconduct when drunk - he threw a dwarf in Queenstown, New Zealand, during the 2011 Rugby World Cup). After a formal inquiry, the RFU said that Tindall's actions were unacceptable and would not be tolerated.

It's good to see that Mike Tindall got his life back together.

I would LOVE to see this show.

Honestly it would be much more interesting than all the scandals. They are truly the kardashians of the UK

The state doesn't own Gatcombe. The Queen purchased it from her own private wealth as a wedding gift for the Princess Royal.

And where does the Queen's 'private wealth' come from?

Imagine if MM was doing a reality show - bunch of hypocrites on the RF board, unthinkingly servile to Anne and all associated with her. They are all a bunch of grifters.

From the billions her as the Queen made for us through tourism etc. they received 15% share back in what they made for us.I’d like to see your boss tell you you only got 15 per cent of your wages. So no it wasn’t OUR money it was what she as the queen made for us.

The Guardian and the Mirror would both disagree that he “threw a dwarf”. As would the owner of the bar he was in. Don’t make shit up!

I don't consider Eugenie's husband a Royal, to be honest. He sells tequila for a living and wouldn't recognise him if I saw him in the street. I would be 🙄if he went to I'm a Celebrity but not because of his "Royal status" but because it is tacky TV.

No I don't see either of the husband's as royal. I don't watch the programme so I can't comment on it but it just doesn't sound my sort of thing so others must like it.

Mike Tindall is generally a funny and likeable I'm a celebrity should go well for him. (See the growth in his social media following the Jubilee). The more public exposure he gets the bigger his following is likely to be. Not sure why this is being compared to the currently quite unlikeable Sussexes slagging of the RF trying to capitalise on their titles, endlessly talking about themselves or preaching about the clinate/vaccines/be kind while doing the opposite.

You mean being honest about the treatment they received at their family.being refused help for their mental health(which notably the royals don’t deal with or acknowledge)(or seemingly allow)
wanting to have some form of choice to their lives. Harry was born into a royal family that doesn’t alter a persons dna to mean they can or should be able to cope with all it entails.or then fight back against it,especially when his wife’s life is in danger.

ancientgran · 12/10/2022 19:34

Coucous · 12/10/2022 18:34

Why can't you say he's the equivalent to Meghan - they both married Lizzys grandchildren.

Well Harry is the King's son Zara is his niece, Harry and Meghan have titles and Zarah and Mike don't. Harry's fifth in line to the throne and Zara is 20th. So a bit different.

Why? They are family members. It's Andrew's son in law and he is a senior member of the royal family. Those men are still his family = members of the RF.

Many of you kick up a fuss when your inlays say you are not family

Coucous · 12/10/2022 19:41

inlaws* - oh god I didn't mean that

CathyorClaire · 12/10/2022 20:43

No I don't see either of the husband's as royal.

They both got Platinum Jubilee gongs which were billed as going to rather more useful public service workers and both of them get to ponce around in royal digs despite one at least being an allegedly successful property developer.

So looking forward to seeing the much hyped slimmed down monarchy take shape...

CathyorClaire · 12/10/2022 21:00

The tourism takings myth has been comprehensively debunked and HMQ received 0% on sales of plastic union jack hats or cans of coke.

Are you talking about the Sovereign Grant?

That's 25% of the profits from assets gained from historical land grabs and handed over in exchange for not paying the unsustainable costs of running the country and it's guaranteed never to be reduced.

Abraxan · 12/10/2022 21:10

I never said he wasn't a royal or well known as a royal.

However, in terms of this kind of programme/activity it's more likely he is going in there more as an ex sportsman than because of his royal connection.

The programme almost always has ex sports stars in the group so he fits the contestant type.

CathyorClaire · 12/10/2022 21:12

If Mike Tindall goes in im a celeb and says the wrong thing

I watch every year.

I surely can't be the only one hoping this will come to pass 🤑

CathyorClaire · 12/10/2022 21:26

The programme almost always has ex sports stars in the group so he fits the contestant type.

And yet there's a near unlimited pool to draw on without dredging the royal pond.

Coucous · 12/10/2022 21:36

@CathyorClaire Do update us! He will be coached surely he can't be that stupid.

Maybe they all said no, maybe he seemed more suited to it, does it matter?

PicturesOfDogs · 12/10/2022 21:48

So what is appropriate for TV appearances for Royals?
It seems to be thought okay for the King if it is a show about something he cares about. So maybe Camilla on gardening shows and shows about grandchildren? Kate on shows about hair and beauty? William on shows about stag hunting and why it is good for the environment? Or a show about flying helicopters - Top Gear special - the helicopter edition? Edward on one of those shows where people compete for a west end part?

In my eyes, appropriateness is:

Okay:
Things like Charles on a restoration show is fine.
It’s talking about a craft and is educational etc.
Catherine reading CBBC stories
skits for Red Nose Day etc
appearing on changing rooms I think would come under this category I think, as part of helping the community

Not okay:
Im a celebrity
talk shows
quiz shows

basically anything that’s educational or has an element of helping the community I think is okay.

Anything that’s just superfluous and purely for entertainment is not okay.

Just my opinion, I think William doing an appearance on a show like ‘ambulance’ would be amazing to highlight the work the air ambulance do.
Etc

I think that’s fair. The trouble is how far into the Inner Sanctum do they have to be for this to apply? I think if Zara did it it would be naff. Mike maybe is in a different category.

Tiswa · 12/10/2022 22:17

But he isn’t actually Royal in the sense he has no title (neither does Zara) like Charles and William he is just a member of the Royal Family who is no longer in the direct Monarch line

Roussette · 12/10/2022 22:41

flapjackfairy · 12/10/2022 08:26

@Roussette
Not everything in the universe has to be about the sainted Harry and Meghan .There are other people on the planet you know . Why do you have to turn everything into a defence of them even when no one is criticising them in this instance? .

They aren't sainted AFAIC

I made a comment on a forum that's all.

Members of the RF get compared whether you like it or not

What? When the Queen was able to bend the laws to her advantage and they don't pay all the taxes we do...this post is so wrong. The Queen does not make money for us. We fund them.

Ohnonevermind · 12/10/2022 23:12

Perhaps the queen and now the King should do a social impact tracker like One Young World do. By the one young world matrices her social return on investment would be quite amazing, and make proportionally their costs per pound miniscule.
compared to the mum and daughter behind one young world getting 650k in 2021 they seem rather good value

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 12/10/2022 23:15

Mike isn't in the line of succession at all, unless a King Ralph style predicament happens so frankly, he can do whatever he likes.

Coucous · 12/10/2022 23:15

They definitely have laws to maintain their wealth. Reading all this I wonder if our expectation of what they should be doing are too grand for £1.50 or whatever we pay them! 😂😂
I can't imagine them all waiting for their turn on all those TV shows.

Ohnonevermind · 12/10/2022 23:17

imagine if all the royal houses had a hunger games scenario, one adult picked at random from royal houses to battle all the other royals.
