Mike Tindall - I'm a Celebrity

Arnaquer · 12/10/2022 03:25

Rumours circulating that he's signed up for the next series of I'm a Celebrity.
I know he and Zara have to make their own money but I find this tasteless and tacky.
Puts me in mind of the Royal It's a Knockout.
Surely they can't be that desperate for cash?

From the billions her as the Queen made for us through tourism etc. they received 15% share back in what they made for us.I’d like to see your boss tell you you only got 15 per cent of your wages. So no it wasn’t OUR money it was what she as the queen made for us.

They make millions from the large estates

They are supported by us as they live on the Gatcombe Park Estate with her Mother Anne

The state doesn't own Gatcombe. The Queen purchased it from her own private wealth as a wedding gift for the Princess Royal.

And Captain Mark Philips paid for renovations with a mortgage.

He had to give up his status as an amateur sportsman and turn professional (giving up his chance at another Olympics) to pay the mortgage as well as farming the estate.

Charles and Camilla were on Masterchef Australia years ago. I don't remember anyone kicking off about it.

Charles ate some sort of canape made of ants and said it wasn't too bad.

LondonWolf · 13/10/2022 07:16

Can't imagine he will be bitching endlessly about his relatives but I guess we will just have to wait and see Smile

I love this terse response which I will apply from now on to all who moan about Meghan's podcast.

"She has to make a living. Don't listen if you don't like it."

But I agree with you. Meghan and Harry have to make a living and I have no issue with podcasts or anything else. What you cannot police is people's reactions to or critique of said podcasts. It's just entertainment after all

Begoniasforever · 13/10/2022 08:35

lol they are worth absolute millions and could easily have stayed as working royals. There is no have to about it.

But they were trapped in a horrible institution. They had to escape.

Knickknacklover · 13/10/2022 09:00

If you already have millions, do you really need to ‘make a living’? Especially if you’re only currency is trading on the name of said horrible institution?
Let’s see what they can do without reference to the Royal Family. Meghan at least has experience of other work, another type of life.
Not a fan of any of the royals, but I struggle with H&M’s contradictory behaviour. I don’t see the same comparator with Mike Tindall at all. He likely would’ve been ploughing the same after dinner speaking / media route as other ex-rugby stars have done. Matt Dawson, for example.

antelopevalley · 13/10/2022 09:31

Mike was a disgraced ex-sports star. He would have sunk into anonymity. Being a Royal has helped rehabilitate him.

He wasn't 🙄 he was a typical rugby player probably got pissed a few too many times, hardly 'disgraced'.

He has managed to not gossip about the rf and seems to be discreet. Surely a good example for anyone.

They cannot live the lifestyle they are used to without earning money. Security alone costs a fortune.
Sarah Ferguson had the same after the divorce. Criticised for working.
No one has to stay within their family business. It is not slavery you know.

I agree - and not to forget they need the money to ensure they can afford security etc. So of course they have to work. Harry isn't living off the billions from the Duchy profits and the Crown Estates etc

He's not disgraced.

Knickknacklover · 13/10/2022 09:38

Many disgraced ex-sportsmen don’t seem to have their careers suffer - Tony Adams was jailed,, Paul Merson and Jamie Carrraghar continue as sports pundits, to name just a few.

What the hell did Jamie do? Tony and Paul overcame addictions.

antelopevalley · 13/10/2022 09:42

@look It was much worse than getting pissed, you are minimising. He was accused of throwing a dwarf and having an affair. The tabloids were full of it at the time. He got thrown out of the team. People are not thrown out of the team for getting pissed a few times.

As I said becoming a member of the Royal Family has rehabilitated his image. He would have got speaking gigs at the kind of events that considered dwarf tossing funny. But he would have been a very minor figure after his downfall.

It is right that people who overcome addictions are not shunned and can get work. Well done them.

CathyorClaire · 13/10/2022 09:44

Do update us! He will be coached surely he can't be that stupid

Reality TV has a long history of indiscretions especially as the contestants relax and forget the presence of the cameras. The omens are good 😁

Maybe they all said no

Yep. That'll be it.

Knickknacklover · 13/10/2022 09:46

Spat at a kid. Google is your friend.
Eric Cantona, Tiger Woods, Dennis Wise. There is a long list of bad behaviour from many sportspeople.
sporting stars - especially men - seem to be afforded a great deal of leeway when mere mortals would never be. There’s always a redemption arc with a star, that the press (and public) love.

the reality seems rather more mundane than the poster above implied I’ve included articles about his original fine and the appeal too to give a full understanding

Providing he’s not slagging off his family in interviews or in his book then I don’t give a fuck what he does really.

antelopevalley · 13/10/2022 10:54

Do you care that Charles slagged off the Queen in an interview and criticised her parenting?

antelopevalley · 13/10/2022 10:58

@Ohnonevermind Wow minimisation. I read the links, it is pretty bad. He was reinstated because he said sorry.
I mean that type of awful behaviour is not unusual for an arrogant macho sportsman. But hardly admirable. DP would be out in his arse if he behaved like that.

Indeed. Like prancing around in a Nazi outfit for example and referring to your colleague using an incredibly offensive racial slur. Yet I have been implored elsewhere to consider these contextually on other threads.

MissMarpleRocks · 13/10/2022 11:07

Personally I think it’s beyond tacky. As were the milk ads & going on Oprah.
