Mike Tindall - I'm a Celebrity

Rumours circulating that he's signed up for the next series of I'm a Celebrity.
I know he and Zara have to make their own money but I find this tasteless and tacky.
Puts me in mind of the Royal It's a Knockout.
Surely they can't be that desperate for cash?

Ooh I might watch it. Love Mike Tindall. Met him a couple of years ago. Really lovely and friendly. Hope he does well

MrsMorton · 12/10/2022 07:37

He does loads for charity, especially Parkinson's U.K. so I hope this can raise some awareness.

Tiswa · 12/10/2022 07:38

Given past celebrity contestants he probably would be able to get there on his own right anyway. He always comes across well and people like him

The Royal connections help yes but he is far more well known than Lady Colin Campbell who did use her connections to get on it or David Emmanuel

lightisnotwhite · 12/10/2022 07:38

I can’t see him as anything other than a rugby player. I mean I know he’s technically part of the Royal family and he’s doing a good job as husband and father in that capacity but he made his name and success in rugby.
I would feel differently about Zara doing it because she’s Royal first and her brilliant achievements as an Olympian came after that.

Maltester71 · 12/10/2022 07:39

He’s not royal, he doesn’t carry out royal duties and neither does his wife.

Princess Anne wisely declined her children a title.

I know he has a podcast, commentates, does after dinner speeches all related to his sporting career, great.
I just think I'm a celebrity is crossing the line to cashing in on his royal status.

I dont think so. He’s an ex professional Rugby player. There are plenty of other contestants who have done far less to merit being a ‘celebrity’.

lightand · 12/10/2022 07:42

He may actually do all right on the show.

But in my opinion, he has everything to lose and nothing to gain.
And yes, reminders of It's a Knockout

Nishky32 · 12/10/2022 07:43

Agreed - as someone pointed out previously he probably would have done it even if he had not married into the royal family.

Arnaquer · 12/10/2022 07:43

Not that I'll be watching anyway, it's a complete yawnfest.

He obviously wants to be king!

He's not cashing in on his royal status. He's famous for being a rugby player.

Mike Tindall appears to enjoy his connection to the Royal family immensely. It seems an odd career move.

Janamouse · 12/10/2022 08:00

He has a drink driving conviction & famously cheated on his wife. That to me isn't a decent man. Going on a TV show doesn't make him sink any lower in my estimation.

gingercat02 · 12/10/2022 08:14

Zara has always been a private citizen, albeit very rich. She has no titles, no public money. She works as a very successful professional horsewoman and via sponsorship.

Mike was a very successful professional rugby player and makes his money like most of them do via a bit of pundit/opnion, Celeb gigs (like IACGMOOH)

HeadNorth · 12/10/2022 08:19

The state doesn't own Gatcombe. The Queen purchased it from her own private wealth as a wedding gift for the Princess Royal.

And where does the Queen's 'private wealth' come from?

Imagine if MM was doing a reality show - bunch of hypocrites on the RF board, unthinkingly servile to Anne and all associated with her. They are all a bunch of grifters.

Pinkcadillac · 12/10/2022 08:22

He’s not a royal. It’s like the future husband is Lilibet doing a tv show or a podcast in 25 years time.

flapjackfairy · 12/10/2022 08:26

@Roussette
Not everything in the universe has to be about the sainted Harry and Meghan .There are other people on the planet you know . Why do you have to turn everything into a defence of them even when no one is criticising them in this instance? .

I’ve never heard anything g about this.

derxa · 12/10/2022 08:29

He has to make a living. Don't watch if you don't like it.

Tontostitis · 12/10/2022 08:30

I'm going to watch it he's great, with a dry, funny wit. The fact that they , as a couple, earn their own money, still do Royal work AND raise large amounts for charity is brilliant. What's not too enjoy. Anne made a fabulous choice is refusing titles and allowing her children to forge their own paths.

Readinginthesun · 12/10/2022 08:33

Mike is well known as a sportsman who happened to marry The Queen’s granddaughter.
To the best of my knowledge he has never criticised the RF , in fact any comment he makes about them is very general . I don’t see him spilling the beans . Unlike other members of the family .
What affair ?

VanCleefArpels · 12/10/2022 08:34

He is not a member of the Royal Family. He happens to be married to a woman whose granny was the Queen. His wife has never been a “Royal” she has never had a title and as far as I know does not do any charity work (unlike her cousins Beatrice and Eugenie), she has forged her own career as an equestrian which has involved from time to time commercial arrangements with eg Jaguar Land Rover adverts. Why shouldn’t each of them pursue any activities to make money?

In what way ? He rarely mentions them .

DillDanding · 12/10/2022 08:40

He’s not really thought of as a ‘royal’ is he?

I think he’d have done it regardless as he’s a relatively well known ex-sportsman.

Trees6 · 12/10/2022 08:43

There were rumours about Louise doing Strictly 2022 which were untrue. Perhaps this is the same. Seems an odd career choice when he and his wife don’t usually seek the limelight. Any comment of his about other Royals no matter how offhand or bland could be misconstrued or blown up out of proportion - it’s risky.
