Mike Tindall - I'm a Celebrity

Arnaquer · 12/10/2022 03:25

Rumours circulating that he's signed up for the next series of I'm a Celebrity.
I know he and Zara have to make their own money but I find this tasteless and tacky.
Puts me in mind of the Royal It's a Knockout.
Surely they can't be that desperate for cash?

@pink No he is not, Mike Tindall is equivalent to Eugenie's husband.
Zara is the King's niece. It is not a distant relationship.

Buttonwood77 · 12/10/2022 14:12

Do you reckon Princess Anne would do Strictly? God I would love to see that!

antelopevalley · 12/10/2022 14:14

Buttonwood77 · 12/10/2022 14:09

Whaat? Perhaps all restraints are off now the Queen is no longer with us?

Look forward to seeing Kate on Bake Off, the Duke of Gloucester on Top Gear and the Queen Consort on Blankety Blank.

I actually think it is wrong for the King to do this. But it does not surprise me. He always struck me as someone who likes attention.

FFS. 😂 It's hardly a secret that the King is passionate about restoration. Talking about restoration on TV is hardly Love Island.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 12/10/2022 13:14

The King is going on a restoration show soon. Is that OK? Is it only a certain type of show that irks you or a certain type of person?

he was POW when it was made.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 12/10/2022 14:33

Samcro · 12/10/2022 14:29

he was POW when it was made.

I read that as 'prisoner of war'.

Serenster · 12/10/2022 14:34

From what they have trailed about his appearance on the Repair Shop, it starts with them visiting him at Dumfries House to see the items to be restored - one of the locations of the educational academies the King founded when he was Prince of Wales to teach people heritage crafts. This, and Dumfries House, was also covered in the TV programme “The Prince’s Master Crafters” in which the King also appeared. So this appearance makes perfect sense as him championing one of his interests in a vey popular show all about restoration and traditional skills.

(Harry and William also turned up on DIY SOS once. I don’t recall that being controversial either).

It normally has an ex sports star - Phil Tufnell James Haskell (who I also think he does a podcast with occasionally) Ian Wright. He fits it there in his own right
he also does other things there was a programme where it was a quiz to who paid dinner that he did
he wants a career I imagine in his own right - for an ex professional sportsman this is a valid career path!

This is true...

I think these shows are a fickle beast... some people can walk out of it as a national treasure (Jordan north or Giovanni fletcher came across really well for example) other people can really show their grumpy/argumentative side and it does them no favours.
Generally he is a likeable guy so I hope he doesn't blow it. I suspect there will be a lot of rules for the other camp mates about not asking him questions about the RF for example.

Michael James Tindall, MBE is an English former rugby union player. Tindall played outside centre for Bath and Gloucester, and won 75 caps for England between 2000 and 2011. He was a member of the English squad which won the 2003 World Cup.

not just married to the late queen's granddaughter

^This.

In my mind hes a sportsman first and foremost. Sports people like to push their body and mind even when they have stopped playing their sport. Eating kangaroo bits is just another mind pushing exercise.

antelopevalley · 12/10/2022 15:11

I think to sports people he may be a sportsman first. But other people know him more as a Royal. I couldn't tell you who was in the 2003 squad.

In 30 years time, Lilibet's husband will be the husband to the King's niece (the King being William). Like Mike Tindall is now.

antelopevalley · 12/10/2022 15:14

@pink So after Charles dies? Who knows how we will see different royals then. It makes much more sense to compare Mike Tindall to people in the current line of succession. So he is equivalent to Eugenie and Beatrice's husbands. And there have been press stories about both of them only because of who they are married to.

ancientgran · 12/10/2022 15:17

He looks like he isn't worried about dignity and he'd probably enjoy it. Let him get on with it. He hasn't got a title, his wife doesn't have a title he isn't doing anything to harm the royal family.

antelopevalley · 12/10/2022 15:18

I don't care if it harms the Royal Family.

He has to make a living. Don't watch if you don't like it.

I love this terse response which I will apply from now on to all who moan about Meghan's podcast.

"She has to make a living. Don't listen if you don't like it."

This is one of the weird things here.

Edward was knocked down when his production was talking about history and royalty (this was the history one I'm referring to, not the William and Knockout things). While his uncle Prince Michael and others are regular commentators on royal documentaries.

As someone pointed out, W&H were on a diy show. They were also on Star Wars apparently. Beatrice appeared on some Hollywood movie (about Q Victoria?). C&C appeared on a soapy recently? Everyone is fine with Mike now. W&K have a YouTube channel. Eugenie and Mike have podcasts. some have also appeared on podcasts.

But certain royals cannot ever appear on TV.

It's the flip flop of 'oh it's ok, for them, not for them' that is suspect.

Well Eugenie is much closer in line to the throne that Zara is. I think Edward, Anne, Edward's children, Eugenie's baby and Zara's brother Peter come between them, Eugenie is 11th I think and Zara is 20th . They will both move down and Zara more than Eugenie in all probability. At some point people have to be free to just live their life.

Serenster · 12/10/2022 15:30

But certain royals cannot ever appear on TV.

I’ll give you an easy way to figure out the rules here, notanotherone again.

(a) Are they a senior working member of the Royal family?
(b) If yes, were they paid for the appearance? > NOT ACCEPTABLE
(c) If no, were they paid for the appearance? > ACCEPTABLE

Opinions about the content, value and general level of taste involved in the appearance are entirely up to the viewer.

Ohnonevermind · 12/10/2022 15:33

@Serenster

very useful royal Tv appearance decision tree 👍

LadyEloise1 · 12/10/2022 15:37

Ridelikethewindypops · 12/10/2022 07:10

The Royal family are basically UKs version of the Kardashians. So this is actually a logical step for them 😁

Naughty !
But I can see where you are coming from.
It actually struck me as a soap opera upmarket as I watched the tv coverage of the recently deceased Queen Elizabeth the Second's life and funeral.

I had no idea William and Harry were on a DIY show.
So why can't we have them all on I'm a Royal Get Me Out of Here
SAS - Royal Family edition
Royals in the Jungle
Supernanny - The Royal edition

The pretence is that they are not celebrities. But they behave exactly like celebrities but with our money.

Pinkcadillac · 12/10/2022 15:54

ancientgran · 12/10/2022 15:25

I don't consider Eugenie's husband a Royal, to be honest. He sells tequila for a living and wouldn't recognise him if I saw him in the street. I would be 🙄if he went to I'm a Celebrity but not because of his "Royal status" but because it is tacky TV.

Samcro · 12/10/2022 16:00

to be fair. W & H appeared on DIT Sos special. if I remember right the show was building/doing up a street for veterans, they were on it for a very short time.

antelopevalley · 12/10/2022 16:06

So what is appropriate for TV appearances for Royals?
It seems to be thought okay for the King if it is a show about something he cares about. So maybe Camilla on gardening shows and shows about grandchildren? Kate on shows about hair and beauty? William on shows about stag hunting and why it is good for the environment? Or a show about flying helicopters - Top Gear special - the helicopter edition? Edward on one of those shows where people compete for a west end part?
