Mike Tindall - I'm a Celebrity

Rumours circulating that he's signed up for the next series of I'm a Celebrity.
I know he and Zara have to make their own money but I find this tasteless and tacky.
Puts me in mind of the Royal It's a Knockout.
Surely they can't be that desperate for cash?

@LondonWolf Maybe that was said if you are one of those who only criticise M and H but give all the other Royals a free pass?
For example, I get tired of those saying OMG how awful for Harry to criticise his family in public. But who ignores that Charles was openly critical of the Queen in his long TV interview?
The Royal Family are incredibly dysfunctional as a family and bad behaviour runs through the whole family.

No I am not one of those people. Most people who post on these threads aren't tbh.

'For example, I get tired of those saying OMG how awful for Harry to criticise his family in public'

It is because they are estranged from her df who did exactly the same! He aired his gripes and grievances publicly and they cut him off for it. Surely, surely you can see the hypocrisy here?

antelopevalley · 13/10/2022 13:22

Charles aired his gripes and grievances in public too and no one cut him off.

No they didn't and no one cut Harry off did you see him at the Jubilee?

My point is the Sussexes march about cutting folk off for doing exactly the same as what they do!

antelopevalley · 13/10/2022 13:46

You mean Meghan cut her father off. None of us know if that was justified or not. She is hardly going to share publicly the ins and outs of why she did that.

antelopevalley · 13/10/2022 13:46

And Charles did refuse to take Harrys calls for at least a while/

So what. That is hardly the same as not seeing your df for 4yrs because he got the media to take snaps when they've 'earned' money selling their gripes ever since.

antelopevalley · 13/10/2022 13:58

@LookingAtYou Do you understand that family relationships are complicated? And that maybe that was the last straw in a long history of a difficult relationship?
Look at Stately Home posts. Many parents would claim their kids cut off them because of a minor thing when that simply is not true.

queenofarles · 13/10/2022 13:58

Isn’t I’m a Celebrity, the bottom of the barrel , I’m desperate for money last resort kind of thing ?
who even watches it ?

Not really, I'd say that was more celebrity come dine with me or similar.

IACGMOOH does get big names and is popular.

Ah MN Stately Homes threads. The font of truth.

Yes I do. Again, they cut her df off but then did much worse themselves.

antelopevalley · 13/10/2022 14:11

It is not the bottom of the celebrity programmes. 2022 one will have Boy George, Danny Dyer and various people I have never heard of. But truly popular celebrities would never appear on it.

I think they pay the bigger named celebs pretty big bucks. I'd imagine the producers will have offered him a fairly hefty wedge of cash in the hope he'll drop some top secret royal info.

antelopevalley · 13/10/2022 14:18

@LookingAtYou Fine. Judge from the outside family relationships when you have zero idea of what has happened. I accept I do not know if it is reasonable or unreasonable as I do not know these people and have zero idea of everything that has happened in the past.

antelopevalley · 13/10/2022 14:19

My step brother cut my dad off over what looked far more minor than Meghan's dad. He was right to. There was a long history there.

I can’t see him as anything other than a rugby player. I mean I know he’s technically part of the Royal family and he’s doing a good job as husband and father in that capacity but he made his name and success in rugby.
I would feel differently about Zara doing it because she’s Royal first and her brilliant achievements as an Olympian came after that.

I completely agree with this - he's a rugby player to me and I always get a bit surprised when I see him so prominent at Royal events before remembering he's married to the Queen's granddaughter.

He'd definitely be on in his own right regardless of who's he's married to and I highly doubt he'll be casting aspersions, slagging anyone off, preaching to others or doing any woe is me to try to garner sympathy.

I agree with PP who predicts he'll win - sportspeople always come across well in IACGMOOH as they're competitive, get stuck in and generally willing to give anything a go! He seems like good fun, so that's a great combination.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 13/10/2022 14:36

I've just looked up past winners out of interest and not that many sports people have snagged the crown. Fewer than I'd have thought.

Phil Tufnell
Carl Fogarty
Harry Redknapp

www.radiotimes.com/tv/entertainment/reality-tv/im-a-celebrity-winners/

Viewers are probably turned off by people who are unashamedly competitive, as sports people tend to be. It's more the 'aww shucks I'm just pootling along doing my best and being good humoured' kind of contestant tends to be popular.

antelopevalley · 13/10/2022 15:00

@JacquelineCarlyle Maybe that is the case with people who follow rugby? I don't. I see him as that bloke married to Zara.

JacquelineCarlyle · 13/10/2022 15:03

That likely is it @antelopevalley although I'm not a follower of rugby, but my husband is so it's obviously made its way into my subconscious (same as the England football players, which I don't follow either!)

I'd have said that I'm a Celebrity is one of the bigger reality shows, getting bigger names and a more prominent place on TV. Alongside something like Strictly. It still gets high viewing figures.

I'd put a lot of other reality shows much lower.

DuchessOfPort · 13/10/2022 16:39

I guess it’s down to whether you know David Beckham as a football player or as that Spice Girl’s husband. I think ironically Zara became more well known because she married the rugby player who helped win the World Cup for England. They’re both known for different reasons but I don’t think he’s on there for his wife, any more than Phil Tufnell.

Abraxan · 13/10/2022 16:41

A quick Google suggests that in 2021 IACGMOOH averaged 9.7m viewers per show. Strictly got just under 8m on average.
Celebrity come dine with me averaged 3.1m

So although viewing figures have dropped from its highest ratings (as have all of the above shows as well as for other reality show figures) it's still hitting high numbers.
