How did the PoW not drop the baby?

Heart in mouth stuff. I always held my babies firmly under the bum.

It is a pity that you haven’t given the same consideration to holding your tongue as you have to someone holding a bairn.

Hibye23289 · 06/10/2022 22:45

Are you ok up there OP? What the hell. Calm down. Oh and you will love this, I was once holding my toddler and climbed over the stairgate at the bottom of the stairs without opening it, kind of cocked my leg over, I then lost grip and dropped them but caught them by their leg upside down just in time

Pregnant Ukrainian fighter: escapes Russian POW camp, manages to delay labour until reaching safety of Red Cross facilities.

I like the dark realism @Fishandchipsupper and modern relevance, very zietgeisty. Us faux publishing houses like to capitalise on war.

I'm sure Putin will delay that Russia runs POW camps but that's something our faux fact-checkers can get round.

Remember though the title is 'The Prisoner of War and the Fallen Baby'. Is the fallen a metaphor? Does the baby literally fall out of her? Is the pregnant Ukrainian fighter woman also 'fallen'?

MotherofPearl · 06/10/2022 22:57

I'm only here for updates on the story about the soldier PoW and the baby. Has he found a woman in the local town who can supply them with food? Has the baby stopped its piercing crying?

@RoachTheHorse @RandomPenguinHouse
@oakleaffy

don't leave us in suspense!

But this is my point exactly. I would never hold a baby with my wrist pointing that way and grabbing the baby’s leg from the top. I would always curve my arm so my hand would be under the baby’s bottom or leg so I would be holding it up, not grabbing down.

So? 😂

I would and do carry babies like this, would you like to provide a step by step instruction on how you, the all knowing baby holding hero, would do it oh wise one?

antelopevalley · 07/10/2022 11:23

I went to find this in the original newspaper as you can't really see it from the photo. There is a video in the Mail and other photos.
She is using both arms to hold the two-month-old baby and yes it is a strange way to hold him.

How did the PoW not drop the baby?
antelopevalley · 07/10/2022 11:25

And all those claiming Kate is using a one-arm "expert" hold are wrong.
She is using both arms.

But that's you. And there's different ways to hold a child. I've held babies the way she is, there's nothing wrong with it.

antelopevalley · 07/10/2022 11:26

@LadyLyndon the baby looks really uncomfortable.

antelopevalley · 07/10/2022 11:28

Gilmorehill · 06/10/2022 19:23

That’s one thing I have in common with her! I’m always cutting or burning my fingers so I frequently have plasters on them.
She clearly adores babies and little ones. I know most people do but you can she’s genuinely passionate.

If you really are always cutting or burning your fingers and you are not doing jobs like welding, then check it out with your GP. You shouldn't be frequently cutting or burning yourself just from ordinary cooking,

RandomPenguinHouse · 07/10/2022 11:33

antelopevalley · 07/10/2022 11:26

@LadyLyndon the baby looks really uncomfortable.

How can you tell?!

The baby looks comfortable to me but it’s a baby and it’s hard to tell what they’re feeling.

NiqueNique · 07/10/2022 11:34

Rubbish. The baby looks absolutely fine.

antelopevalley · 07/10/2022 11:38

Okay, whatever.
If my teenagers held a baby this way I would intervene and teach them how to hold the baby more comfortably.
But fine if you want to hold babies in a way that is uncomfortable for them and can't even spot that they look uncomfortable, then that is up to you I guess.

The baby is fine and will not be harmed in any way so I am not bothered if Kate holds a baby in a strange position. But it is the usual on here where an OP points out something mildly critical of someone in the Royal Family who is not H and M, and you all rush in to claim that something blatantly obvious is not the case.
People have eyes you know.

LadyKenya · 06/10/2022 19:13

How do you know this, did she tell you when you joined her for high tea?

No we went to Nandos

NiqueNique · 07/10/2022 11:47

No @antelopevalley this is about you seeing weird things that aren’t there, because you have some agenda regarding the royal family.

Practically everyone else on the thread has their own set of unbiased eyes with which to evaluate and can see perfectly well that there’s nothing wrong with how this baby is being held.

It doesn’t matter who’s in the photo - it could be a teenage mother, an adoptive mother, a middle-aged mother, a pauper or a princess, it would not change the simple fact that it’s absolutely fine. I don’t suppose you’ve got any kind of actual expertise in caring for babies, as clearly evidenced by your stance on this, so I’ll stick with my own knowledge and experience and that of other trained and capable professionals. Plus the many other mothers with much experience who’ve commented to say that’s exactly how they’d do it.

@NiqueNique I am a mother and was a nursery nurse, so please do not tell me I have no experience of looking after babies. I have far more than some of you.

As I said I don't really care about this, I would never have posted this as I don't think it really matters.
What I think does matter is the constant ganging up against any OP who is mildly critical of anyone except H and M. It happens every single time.

And the OP is right. Kate is holding the baby in a strange position. I do not know why. There is lots on information online about holding a young baby safely. And the baby is only 2 months old. How you hold a much older baby will be different.

NiqueNique · 07/10/2022 12:02

Ok I take it all back. You are clearly entirely unbiased and have made a critical observation based on actual expertise in young babies. It has nothing at all to do with any agenda regarding the RF.

Goodness it’s late and I’ve got to go about my day.

Arbesque · 07/10/2022 12:03

We've had experienced midwives and nurses on here saying it is a perfectly normal way to hold a baby.
Presumably they know what they're talking about.

Apparently not as well as @antelopevalley 🙄😂😂

antelopevalley · 07/10/2022 12:16

Fine. I would have been told off as a nursery nurse for holding a baby in that way. But midwives apparently can hold babies however they want.
Whatever.

ArcaneWireless · 07/10/2022 12:22

It is blatantly obvious to me that some people always think they know best.

They don’t.

Same old agenda. Different day.

smilesy · 07/10/2022 12:23

The baby is perfectly comfy and coming to no harm. Why would anyone worry about how it is being held? Are we going to stop
women in the street and tell them
off for not holding their perfectly happy and safe baby in some sort of prescribed way? Ludicrous
