Every time kate wears a yellow dress or a polka dot dress she gets compared to Diana,
it’s really not, fashion has made a full circle and we are now dressing like it’s the early 90s!

The DM "nod to Diana" drives me nuts, they do it with Meghan too. Every time one of them wears jewellery that was once worn by Diana.
Either the pieces are items that belonged to Diana, inherited by the boys and gifted to their wives, or they are part of the jewellery cache at Buckingham Palace which various Royal ladies borrow from.
Wearing those jewels or D's watch has nothing to do with a "nod to Diana" but just wearing nice items that are available. 🤷‍♀️

NiqueNique · 05/10/2022 13:24

Again, harking back to fashion in 30s/50s70s/90s/whatever is another thing altogether.

Of course the media is being stupid in describing it as anything else (Similarly to when they say X is a ‘spitting image’ of Y when what they mean is, has blonde hair and a fringe). It’s very likely that Kate does, sometimes make sartorial choices in order to hark back, pay tribute, include the memory of, and so on. That’s normal convention within the Royal Family.

However, that is not what’s happening here. Someone, either a stylist or a PR ‘expert’ or Meghan, or Meghan with Harry, is doing this specifically and deliberately.

queenofarles · 05/10/2022 13:25

, clueless Americans who just don't realise who and what Wallis Simpson stood for.

'Oh look, there is another American divorcee, who was a style icon in her time, and who married a guy who was also kicked out of the RF'.

if and that’s a big if her stylists are drawing comparisons between Wallis and Teddy and Meghan and Harry to highlight a great love story then they really do need to hire multiple fact checkers.

walis had extraordinary taste , but she was a horrible woman.

NiqueNique · 05/10/2022 13:28

Yes that’s my opinion too. It’s got to be more than just about her style (Meghan is not a natural ‘twin’ for Wallis when it comes to fashion/style) so they must be trying to say something with it. However it’s not a wise decision to build brand on the Windsors (Unless it’s very different in North America).

Wallis had extraordinary taste, but she was a horrible woman

Yes, quite. And he didn’t exactly cover himself in glory either!

@themessygarden

Meghan had some fabulous looks, she rocks a white shirt, but she should get her clothes tailored to suit her shape and be more careful in her choice of materials

I agree.

I am not sure how true this is, but apparently a lot of her outfits for public events are loaned to her and have to be returned, hence the reason why they have not been tailored to fit her.

That being said, I would imagine no designer would want to see their clothes looking ill fitting and unattractive in photos that appear globally, it would be far better publicity to see Meghan looking amazing in well tailored clothes. She has worn some great clothes that have looked absolutely dreadful on her.

Ohnonevermind · 05/10/2022 13:39

Perhaps Meghan should ‘pick’ a fashion House to collaborate with. They would have her measurements and know what suits her. She is beautiful.

audrey Hepburn had a wonderful career, great relationship with Givenchy and did lots of work for the UN based on her experience during WW2

Readinginthesun · 05/10/2022 13:40

If she is borrowing clothes then it would help to explain the poor fit but what about her wedding dress ? It was ill- fitting . I often think she needs better underwear .
Agree that she looks great in jeans and white shirt .

PeekAtYou · 05/10/2022 13:46

Hopefully their new content checker, or whatever her title is, will ensure Meghan's styling is not based on Wallis Simpsons wardrobe.
The fact checker is a writer who's been hired to check her podcasts only.

goldierocks · 05/10/2022 13:48

I thought the design on the dress Meghan wore for the Oprah interview was visually similar to a dress worn by Wallis, which was posted upthread. I've attached a side-by-side comparison.

I'm another one who is looking forward to receiving my copy of the 'Courtiers' book tomorrow. I'm currently recovering from surgery, so I won't feel the slightest bit guilty staying in bed all day to read it🙂

Klayda · 05/10/2022 11:21

Surely surely that can't be deliberate? On what planet would emulating Wallis be a good idea? They must have advisors? And I read yesterday they've employed a fact checker.

Is that so someone will save Meghan from her outrageous claims?

Ohnonevermind · 05/10/2022 13:57

Netflix might be collaborating with them on a biopic/documentary and they must have been studying documents and Photos and subconsciously impacted on her wardrobe choice as I can’t believe it was deliberate

LondonWolf · 05/10/2022 14:00

Must have been unpleasant for the queen to be reminded so regularly of the reason her father ended up being king when he wasn't keen on being and she believed that the stress of it all contributed to his early death. I've seen these photos before, and more, they're around six similar "looks" that I have seen - there does seem to be a theme...

NiqueNique · 05/10/2022 14:05

Oh I can believe it could well be deliberate. Remember there’s very much an America-centric approach to their life post royal working duties. A lot of the more subtle aspects of the Windsor saga seen from the opposite perspective would be entirely lost on the individuals to whom they’re pitching their brand.

Ohnonevermind · 05/10/2022 14:08

But the if the papers about the windsors are released or someone makes an unsympathetic film/documentary then they risk being tarred with the same brush.
Americans like winners and I don’t think the Windsor’s meet that criteria

ZooTropia · 05/10/2022 14:10

cheezy · 05/10/2022 10:28

It’s an amazing coincidence but must only BE a coincidence- as why would she want to compare herself to Wallis?!

They are both American divorcees and the English don't liKe her 👈🏻

NiqueNique · 05/10/2022 14:13

Well quite.

However they’re clearly not very wise as to how to build a positive, powerful brand. They’re not actually a ‘power couple’. They’re trying very hard to be one, but whether they manage that is yet to be seen. Their PR track record isn’t great. And they don’t really have anything to sell other than their connection to Royalty.

So if, and it’s a big ‘if’, they eventually become winners in North America or elsewhere, I don’t suppose channeling and emulating the Windsor story is going to be how they do it.

I think so too. Some of these I'd put down to pure coincidence. But the most recent ones really are two fingers to HMQ.

Ah okay, I didn't realise it was podcast content only !

Maybe they will realise they might need to expand her job description to other areas of their public persona's.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/10/2022 14:30

Nor me, themessygarden - and there I was, hoping for a new and improved accuracy in the pair's accounts Confused

Croque · 05/10/2022 14:30

The one who does it first usually does it best 😉
Wallis was unfairly excluded from the family, not given a £30m wedding.
Wallis was marrying the one who would have been king, not the spare.
Wallis came from an extremely privileged background and it showed in her style and how she carried herself. Unlike Meghan.

Samcro · 05/10/2022 14:30

place marking for the lols

Ohnonevermind · 05/10/2022 14:35

Is Wallis considered to be an archetype

Croque · 05/10/2022 14:36

So is H obliging by playing the miserable overshadowed spouse. I hope that he is not also cuckolded.
Isn't it time to give up the title to play the part authentically?

It is not the kind of energy I would want to invite into a secure marriage between mature individuals but fair dos.
