Jane Seymour played Wallis in a hallmark film I think - vague recollection

MarshaMelrose · 05/10/2022 11:47

To be fair, they were thought of as a great love story at the time. The king who gave up his throne for the woman he loved. But once they left, they became a bit of an irrelevance. And a bit sad, really, as interviews they did came out. It's only later books and documentaries that showed how unhappy they were, her in particular, which resulted in her affairs. But they couldn't leave each other after all they'd gone through.

It has definite echoes of H&M but they haven't been exiled and they are still happy. So although you could see how their marriage could follow the same trajectory, I'm sure it won't, even if they are planning on leaving the tree behind. Proof if ever was ended that you don't buy a house because you like what's in the garden. Always check your pipes first.

I don't think they posed for those pictures, with Edward and Wallis in mind though. They're quite common poses. We'll, not the ones with Harry hanging around like he's the gardener or dogwalker, though. It seems weird to me how often he's pushed off to the side.

@GobbolinoTheWitchesCat

no she’s not a publisher but had started an earlier thread, so the OP is just being polite

I’m a faux publisher Grin

@GobbolinoTheWitchesCat I absolutely don’t need to give permission, that was a courtesy by the OP as others said. She asked me on another thread if I could start a continuation thread, I said I wasn’t going to but they should of course feel free to.

Ohnonevermind · 05/10/2022 11:49

Perhaps the Sussex’s want to do a biopic of the windsors, perhaps Meghan will take the leading role, so she’s channelling her now to show Netflix ?

jeffgoldblum · 05/10/2022 11:50

@Ohnonevermind

Maybe Wallis was , is more popular in the US ?

EdithWeston · 05/10/2022 11:51

The British view of Wallis Simpson is generally negative, but I'm wondering if she's seen differently in US

You can find similarities between outfits/poses between just about any of the Royals (look at how often W & H's wives are said the be channeling their late mother) but that red outfit is quite strikingly similar. And how MM stands when wearing the white version on that magazine cover is very much how WS is standing in that shot too.

jeffgoldblum · 05/10/2022 11:51

Cross post @EdithWeston !

OMG you lot make me laugh. The Wallis pictures - what a find! Grin

ShamedBySiri · 05/10/2022 11:58

I reckon she doesn't know but has a stylist who has been shouted at once too often getting the last laugh.

ShamedBySiri · 05/10/2022 11:59

I wish the King would remove the Sussex title and bestow the Windsor title.

DysonSpheres · 05/10/2022 12:00

I just think Megs has noticed that she has a similar figure to Wallis and is choosing her as wardrobe inspiration for official events.

Wallis was stylish, and had a turn of the century slim figure that suited the clothes of that era so much. Her style is worthy of emulation in my book.

I personally love the red outfit on meghan, and like this photo of them. I haven't liked any of theirs previously.

NiqueNique · 05/10/2022 12:00

A nod to mother/grandmother/great grandmother/whatever the case may be is fine, of course. Harking back to tradition/history/history is a big part of what the Monarchy is and does.

However, this is just weird in terms of brand IMO. Their story was mostly unhappy and their characters weren't great either. Certainly not the kinds of people and personalities I'd want to emulate!

But of course it'll mainly be aimed at U.S. audience which does make a big difference, I suppose.

NiqueNique · 05/10/2022 12:02

Wallis had a vastly different figure to Meghan, in fashion/styling terms.

Ohnonevermind · 05/10/2022 12:02

I agree, Wallis was a very stylish woman,

Dinoteeth · 05/10/2022 12:02

A lot of the time I think the similarities in outfits and poses is just coincidence.

But two at the same time and that outfit with the scarf / neck detail is quite unique.
Have we even worked out why those photos were released yesterday?

Definitely makes me think someone is having a nod to the past.

EdithWeston · 05/10/2022 12:06

Great minds @jeffgoldblum - or is it simply never differing?

BTW, the monarch can't remove titles (needs parliamentary action) and I don't think the Windsor dukedom is likely to be used again.

NiqueNique · 05/10/2022 12:07

Ugh I just noticed I repeated 'history' - Please insert 'heritage' as appropriate.

jeffgoldblum · 05/10/2022 12:07

Going back in time , do we know when the Windsor photos were released? , we're they released after similar pictures of the royal family? Or just standalone pictures? .
Am wondering because, the release of the H&M pictures were released after the subsequent pictures of the royal family!

I jest @EdithWeston Wink

jeffgoldblum · 05/10/2022 12:13

Also @RandomPenguinHouse , I was very interested in your post about helping with visibility about Asian racism, and knowing Margret cho? ( forgive me if that's wrong, I have goldfish memory now I've reached this uncomfortable age!) , it's a shame it was deleted! I'd like to know more really!

ShamedBySiri · 05/10/2022 12:10

I jest @EdithWeston Wink

on a similar vein, I never thought that Sussex was the right dukedom for Harry.

Given his party lifestyle in his younger days, I wanted him to be created Clarence

jeffgoldblum · 05/10/2022 12:25

🤣🤣🤣🤣

OP posts:
sausage767 · 05/10/2022 12:28

It can’t possibly be a coincidence, not after the red outfit and the b & w pictures. The centre part, the hoop earrings.

The jubilee white coat buttoned up (an unusual way to wear such a coat) and the gloves.

Although I can’t for the life of me imagine why.

I thought she doesn’t have a stylist?

MarshaMelrose · 05/10/2022 12:28

Ooo, Clarence. That's harsh. Wasn't he executed for as a traitor for betraying his brother? But what a way to go!
