To be fair, Meghan is a great deal prettier than Wallis ever was.

Meghan is stunning.

As to Wallis I’m currently reading the Windsor book. Just started it.

It appears she didn’t really want to marry him but didn’t really have choice once he gave up the throne.

Well if someone has done that for you, you can’t really tell them to F off!

ajandjjmum · 05/10/2022 17:12

I agree.

ajandjjmum · 05/10/2022 17:15

My post was in reply to @kingtamponthefurred - but for some reason I can no longer quote on here. I tried 'add message' to see if that worked - it doesn't!!!

MarshaMelrose · 05/10/2022 17:17

I think its all just coincidence. They're just not that organised or strategic to copy anyone. They don't seem to employ anyone long enough to develop anything longterm. And there won't be hardly any people who compare clothes enough to point this out so they'll have to leak something. How would that work?

Nor do I think she did a 2 finger FU to the Queen. I don't believe she wanted to hurt the queen, she's just spitting insults and threats because she's carrying a lot of baggage around.

NiqueNique · 05/10/2022 17:26

Harking back to 30s fashion isn’t a big deal in itself. Lots of very stylish people do that from time to time as it was a very stylish era indeed. However the wider context matters a great deal, as nuance always does. It’s reasonable to wonder why Harry and/or Meghan (or whoever is driving it) are doing this so very deliberately right now. We’ll likely never know, of course. But it is an interesting question.

ShamedBySiri · 05/10/2022 17:28

Meghan is beautiful and often wears great outfits but overall I'd say she is someone who has struggled to find her style. Or I suppose some people might say she is experimental but that would imply being fashion forward, whereas I think it's more a case of not really sticking to what suits her.

As regards Wallis - I haven't read the book but she was on her second marriage and, shall we say, not overly concerned with honouring her marriage vows. Being the King's mistress (or Prince of Wales as he was when they first got together) must have seemed incredibly exciting, especially to an American socialite. The peak of society, she acted as hostess when they entertained at the little hideaway they had in Windsor (can't remember what it was called). He showered her with amazing jewels. They stayed at the houses of aristocratic friends and went on exotic sailing holidays. Who wouldn't be loving it.
But I very much doubt she wanted to be Queen, much less to be the wife of an exiled ex King.

Unfortunately for her the King, who had had loads of married mistresses before, fixated on her and there was no escape.

Simpson spun a web, then got caught in it herself!

According to a documentary I watched, her grabbing Edward's attention, flirting with him and leading him on, was initially some sort of game, a game she shared with her then husband's approval. They were trying to climb the social ladder, but it all got out of hand as Edward, formerly a playboy, fell head over heels in love. It's like one of those old fables on the dangers of magic love potions. The spell bound her too.

I actually felt sorry for her having to go through with the marriage or face being the most hated woman in the world. Imagine having to live with a man who gave up so much for you. A man who still feels he ought to be important. The burden would be massive.

Rainforestandshine · 05/10/2022 17:32

Anyone here brave enough to put a genuine profile picture of themselves besides Meghan Markle for us to compare? 😂 I’m guessing not!

I think Meghan often lacks polish and attention to detail. Says I sitting here in my scruffy leggings and hoodie Grin but I don't think she can pull off many of the looks she goes for. Except that evening wedding dress. When I think of stunning looks on celebs I think of her in that dress. Im always surprised that it doesn't get more attention beyond an acknowledgement that she looked good. She did look amazing that night.

LondonWolf · 05/10/2022 17:36

Cross post 😁

MarshaMelrose · 05/10/2022 17:37

To be fair, @Rainforestandshine , I've never heard anyone on any thread say that she isn't good-looking. I think the worst word I've heard used is 'pretty'. But stunning and beautiful are regularly used.

Serenster · 05/10/2022 17:40

NiqueNique · 05/10/2022 16:17

Oh fgs sake this is what happens when I post whilst cooking a new recipe. I actually wasn’t replying to @Serenster at all but to @DysonSpheres! 🙄🙄

Anyway, Meghan needs to find another figure whose style to emulate is my two cents.

Not to worry NiqueNique, I knew who you were replying to as well! 👋 to you too 😀

Don't be ridiculous. You'd be hard pushed to find anyone on these threads who doesn't agree that MM is a very good looking woman.Hmm

LondonWolf · 05/10/2022 17:43

I'm so jelly of those shoulders! It's true Grin

MissMarpleRocks · 05/10/2022 17:49

If I could look a 10th that good I’d be happy.

Ohnonevermind · 05/10/2022 17:49

@Rainforestandshine

I had mentioned her shoulders were
fab - she wore a top that showed off her shoulders at invcitus in Germany but the trousers and underwear let the look down.

I’ve also said she’s a beautiful woman.
I’ve also said she needs tailor and better underwear to make the most of herself

NiqueNique · 05/10/2022 17:55

Why is any commentary on style/fit always, always taken to be critical of Meghan’s figure or her looks? It’s so extremely tedious. 🙄

Just for the record, I think she’s beautiful. I think she’s got a great figure. That doesn’t mean I have to be slavishly effusive about everything she wears, the fit or suitability of it, nor, in a discussion like this, her potential reasons for choosing to wear it.

@LondonWolf that was a fabulous look!

I’ve said before that I don’t think Meghan had time to get used to more formal clothing and the importance of an impeccable fit to one’s overall look, nor to find her style after having children/gaining weight/changing body shape as well as getting older. It takes time to re-learn those things. Especially if you’re also re-inventing yourself, and quite markedly so, in the process.

Maireas · 05/10/2022 17:57

Also, she was pregnant very quickly, so that first year her shape was changing all the time. I love her style (usually!) and think she does casual dressing really well.
I don't think there's a link with her clothing choices and Wallis Simpson's!

Maireas · 05/10/2022 18:00

I think this blue dress is stunning. Love the colour and style.

LadyVictoriaSponge · 05/10/2022 18:01

Agreed Meghan’s evening look was stunning and was so much better than her wedding dress. I was quite disappointed in both Kate’s and Meghan’s wedding dresses to be honest, although this was not Kate’s evening wedding dress I don’t think she has ever looked better than in this Jennie Packham dress.

Maireas · 05/10/2022 18:03

That's a beautiful dress. I thought Kate's dress had a beautiful skirt, but I didn't like the bodice as I don't like visible cups.
If anyone wants to join us on an ongoing thread about Royal Style and Beauty, please do! We had just been discussing royal wedding dresses and similar comments were made.

Ohnonevermind · 05/10/2022 18:04

Meghan’s dress is a lovely colour , but I’m not a fan of a leg split. I hate sitting in dresses like that too.

Ohnonevermind · 05/10/2022 18:10

Meghan looks stunning in such a variety of lovely colours.

Dinoteeth · 05/10/2022 18:13

Perime · 05/10/2022 17:06

I think its just fashion and what suits their bodies. Kate has worn outfits that can be compared to Wallis Simpson too. As has Beatrice. Beautiful, well cut outfits on beautiful women.

I don't think any of those look at similar to WS outfits. All have very different neck lines. The white coat doesn't have a buckle and a totally different collar.

I totally get fashions come round, and things will be similar, but Meghans are similar beyond coincidence
.

jeffgoldblum · 05/10/2022 18:15

To be honest, I don't really give a toss about what anyone else wears 🤷‍♀️, that's just me!
I have to say I'm not sure what she sees in Harry , I don't find him remotely attractive!
