I wonder if they were receiving money from the Queen on the quiet and now that has stopped they need another source of revenue. It is all quite odd. Charles may have told them if they stop damaging the RF he’ll keep the money going. Just a thought.

Dinoteeth · 10/10/2022 08:47

My thought is the private ventures maybe aren't going as well as they'd hoped, could they or Harry individually be thinking about returning as working Royals?

Put any more knives into the family and there won't be a RF to return to??

Interesting to read these reports that Harrys book might be ditched altogether and they are desperately trying to change things in their Netflix series. I find it staggering that Harry hadn’t thought about the impact on his family before the death of HM. It appears that now they are scrambling around in a panic. I wonder how the funeral changed their outlook and what conversations were had. I also wonder if Charles has offered them money to change tack.

Telling Their Truth! and Meghan Using Her Voice! obviously not as essential as previously thought clearly.

I know it's off the topic of the book but the Times has an article today about the Charity Commission into One Young World.
There was quite a lot of discussion about this on a previous thread. Of cause MM isn't the only person to be sucked in to it - I do wonder about Bob Geldof's involvement. I'd have thought this sort of thing would be anathema to him.

Anyway, interesting comment on the Times article pretty much says it all.

Leaders of charity backed by Meghan were paid £2m.

Charity commission investigation I meant to say.

Or "regulatory compliance case" as they call it.

Ohnonevermind · 10/10/2022 10:37

Mary Robinson is also involved - former president of Ireland and UN commissioner for Human Rights

Readinginthesun · 10/10/2022 10:55

Is this another Kids’ World ?

That would be blackmail in my books. If they really have something damaging to say, as they imply all the time, they should say it as any other thing is playing a game. For money. Despicable.

SilverLiningPlaybook · 10/10/2022 11:58

I think they've been playing a game all along though! Its always been about money.

LaBrujaPiruja · 10/10/2022 12:00

It is and it has been. Although many people still think they are innocent lambs.

Readinginthesun · 10/10/2022 12:16

William is now in charge of the Duchy coffers so I can’t imagine he will be throwing money at them !

ajandjjmum · 10/10/2022 12:38

Presumably any funding they now receive would be through the Duchy of Lancaster?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/10/2022 13:06

The same has occurred to me, but Charles could only keep the cash coming if it was still being paid in the first place, and Harry insisted he's already been cut off financially ... and he must be telling the truth mustn't he? Hmm

Dinoteeth · 10/10/2022 13:44

Could it be titles for the kids that is the carrot?

Another thought is if H wanted to water down / remove all the juicy bits of the book. Who would actually buy it?

Could the publishers be worried they could end up with stacks of boring books nobody wants to buy?

MidnightConstellation · 10/10/2022 13:46

Titles may well be the key. From the institution they say they despise.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/10/2022 14:21

Titles may well be the key

Perhaps, but where does it stop?
Harry's made it very clear that he wants wall to wall security regardless of need and no doubt other things too, so while trading benefits is nothing new it has the potential to spread to the next thing, and then the next

That seems to me a recipe for breeding yet more resentment on all sides, and given the toxic mess this is turning into I'm not sure it would guarantee a good outcome for anyone - least of all the public who are paying for it

Ohnonevermind · 10/10/2022 14:57

I would say, it’s titles, security and funding to set up something like the duke of Edinburgh in the states.

They have to move on from the victim /blaming stuff but it is the most lucrative for them.
they can’t afford to set up an awards scheme something from scratch and need to do it quickly if they aren’t to fade away so the RF can help with them. That would be a stepping stone to greater things

The security - I don’t know, is it necessary?, is it vanity ? You see others with security (like Kardasians, Clooneys) but I’ve no idea

MarshaMelrose · 10/10/2022 16:33

Is there any actual proof that the book will be delayed, or amended, watered down or shelved, though? Or just speculation?

ajandjjmum · 10/10/2022 19:09

I think it's just speculation.

Presumably contracts have been signed, and the book was supposed to appear quite soon, so I'm not sure how easy it would be to significantly change things at this stage.

And obviously, the publishers will be interested in what will sell. And what sells is royal dirt.

Dinoteeth · 10/10/2022 20:04

I think it's speculation that it's been pulled.

But if Harry is wanting to clean it up take out the dirt then the publishers are maybe feeling - who's going to buy it ? Might be better to cut their losses rather than going into print and selling them off at a loss.

ajandjjmum · 10/10/2022 20:26

I think the draft has been handed over and approved, so maybe Harry hasn't got the authority to clean it up? I wouldn't imagine the publishers would have a problem with him adding another chapter or two, relating to the Queen's death, but I can't imagine they'll let him refine everything before that.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/10/2022 20:41

Is there any actual proof that the book will be delayed, or amended, watered down or shelved, though? Or just speculation?

AFAIK it's just the usual speculation with the media publishing whatever crap will get a few more clicks, but as has been said I wouldn't think the company would be happy to lose the potential sales, and there'd also be the question of whatever advance Harry's received

Unless the RF have bought them all off, but then we'd be back with what else we they may be expected to pay for in order to avoid more dirt being flung

MarshaMelrose · 10/10/2022 20:45

This book is the first of a three book deal, isn't it? If so, he's tied in. At what point does the book become the publishers property and so it can't be changed? Does it always remain Harry's so he can do what he likes? How would publishers be able to specify what was to be included when referring to emotions? Could, therefore, H produce 3 anodyne books and the publishers are stuck with them? Or can they be rejected and can they get their advance back if they're not good enough (ie salacious enough)?

I don't know anything about the publishing world but if anyone else knows, I'd be interested to hear about it. It can't be the first time it happened.

Also is H likely to regret what he's,written. He seems too thin-skinned and paranoid to look at situations rationally.

Dinoteeth · 10/10/2022 21:52

I don't know.Purely my guess.

I think he must have give some sort of template what each book would contain With enough juicy bits to make each book interesting enough to sell.

They must have put a value on that we think we can sell x number of copies at y price.

There might be a get out clause after each book, we need to sell x many before we'll do the next book.

Maybe they will sue Harry or he has to pay back some of the money if he doesn't come up with the goods.
