I note the press release about that is very carefully worded, ShamedbySiri:
It doesn’t actually say the $1 million is being given by Archewell to Ving to distribute, just that they are partnering to invest to the national giving movement. But Ving has been operating for a while now giving $1000 gifts away to teenagers. It is already well funded from the Lefhovsky Family Foundation, which set it up. So I am not remotely convinced that Archewell is giving Ving the money (I’m sure that’s what we are expected to think, though).

As their money-making projects don't seem to be doing well, why would they be giving $1m of their personal funds away?

It doesn’t add up, does it? All smoke and mirrors with those two.

WinnieTheW0rm · 08/10/2022 07:51

Yes, Archewell is in partnership with VING.

VING is distributing $1m

The size of their actual donation, and what role Archewell plays as a partner have not been described

SilverLiningPlaybook · 08/10/2022 08:47

The stuff on Andrew is interesting…

MarshaMelrose · 08/10/2022 09:57

The press release said...
The Archewell Foundation will donate the $1million to the VING project so it can carry out its work.

MissTrip82 · 08/10/2022 10:42

I’m quite surprised archewell has $1 million to give. Do people really donate to it?

I have no issue with Meghan or Harry but it wouldn’t occur to me to donate to a celebrity foundation. Why would they have any idea what to do with money and how to use it best in the charitable sector? There are people with expertise in this but they’re not usually famous.

Maireas · 08/10/2022 10:50

I think Foundations are a bit complex, but they're not exactly charities.
There are charitable endeavours, but many celebrities have them to manage their various interests.
This one is based in Delaware, so it must be to do with US law and charitable status.

ajandjjmum · 08/10/2022 11:17

There are apparently tax benefits to basing an organisation in Delaware.

CathyorClaire · 08/10/2022 11:25

I’m quite surprised archewell has $1 million to give.

Yep. I'm quite surprised too especially as the only filed accounts show they raised about $50k in 2020. Less than they spent on lawyers.

As their money-making projects don't seem to be doing well, why would they be giving $1m of their personal funds away?

Non profits registered in Delaware have to distribute at least 5% of their income to charity. Presumably this donation will help keep Archewell within that remit.

Where does it say that?

The only press release I could find is this, and there's a lot of vague talk about 'partnerships', but nothing about Archewell donating $1 million, or indeed anything at all.

Back to "Courtiers". Just read chapter 11. About Andrew. Pure gold, almost worth buying the book just for that.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/10/2022 13:41

It doesn't actually need to say it - as ever, some will flesh out even the vaguest report with inventions according to taste

It seems likely that Ving will welcome the publicity which comes from having H&M on board, but although a £1 million donation would be surprising from a "foundation" which has made much less than that, the financial details - as is usual with the RF - may be harder to track down

Ohnonevermind · 08/10/2022 13:55

The statement says to submit your stories to archwell but says the money is coming from archewell and Ving, but definitely doesn’t say ‘1m from archewell’

I wonder are they hoping to start an awards scheme too, if they get enough entries. It would make sense

ajandjjmum · 08/10/2022 14:03

Meghan will probably judge the entries, and distribute the prizes as part of her 'Lady Bountiful' role.

Ohnonevermind · 08/10/2022 14:11

Some of the award scheme such as DOE have been really successful. The cause is something close to Meghan’s heart. They don’t have the money to fund it all themselves so must be happy to have a financial partner as you need a few years to get these things established. They were already looking for inspirational stories but now can pay for them

Ohnonevermind · 08/10/2022 14:24

An awards scheme could be a great idea for them in the US. I can imagine that it would work really well and it’s not a ‘commercial’ money making scheme, it just needs funding

That was my absolute favourite chapter. Examples of his rudeness and stupidity just piling up, one after the other, until finally we get to the total disaster of the Newsnight interview. Amazing.

I know! He’s obviously beyond stupid.

I’m looking forward to reading about it, can’t find my kindle 🤯

Probably worth prospective entrants having a damn good nose at Archewell's T&C's before they do and thereby lose any control over them:

Clearly they got their money from book advances etc through other SPVs (special purpose vehicles) set up for the purpose.
They must have good tax lawyers behind too, working on their tax. But I agree 5% of very little is even less than very little.
The "foundation" is part of the machine controlled by this "altruistic" couple as they wanna be seen as altruist(s) as this is the script given to the friendly press and paid ad.

MidnightConstellation · 10/10/2022 07:54

Interesting to read these reports that Harrys book might be ditched altogether and they are desperately trying to change things in their Netflix series. I find it staggering that Harry hadn’t thought about the impact on his family before the death of HM. It appears that now they are scrambling around in a panic. I wonder how the funeral changed their outlook and what conversations were had. I also wonder if Charles has offered them money to change tack.

RoseAndRose · 10/10/2022 07:59

Well, if they need to make all these changes to be kinder, what were they being before?

9Don't know if Harry has propounded the "be kind" movement, but Meghan has)

H promised to be "accurate and wholly truthful" this time, which is presumably an inadvertent nod/ Freudian slip cf. what has come previously 😀

Dinoteeth · 10/10/2022 08:14

It's totally staggering that he didn't predict the impact on his personal relationships before he attacked 'the Royal Family' in the first place.

I mean really who is the Chef Exc of 'the palace' that would be the Monarch, ie his Granny, now Dad.

And really he's been lumped together with his Uncle, the two no longer working Royals.
