Anyone else think The Times should not be printing extracts from this new book about Royal Courtiers at this time? Incredibly stupid given that H&M are trying to mend fences? I feel really quite cross for everyone involved - William's efforts to build bridges etc, all going to be in vain now. Very naughty.

Anyone see the video of him shaking hands with public and skips or stops when he gets to the brown people? I am not sure how much attitudes have changed within the palace

This . How exactly would this work, would people be seconded to Montecito , what about their families, would they go too.,How would this work with the US authorities .

I don’t think you can blame Meghan for this , she had no experience and would have followed Harry’s lead . He of course has never lived in the real world, he has never had to even think about these things at all , all barriers have been swept away, often probably without him even knowing there was a barrier in the first place. He used to turn up at a local supermarket , never paid , the security always paid …. Of course there could be security reasons for this but it’s just an illustration . People have always ‘sorted’ things for him , now he’s got to deal with stuff himself and it must be a steep learning curve.

Yes this does paint Harry in a particularly bad light if he expected Met officers to upend theirs and their families lives to protect him and his family in California. It just highlights that he thinks of other people as commodities that are just there to service him. The fact that their nanny wasn't told that she was going to Canada for 6 weeks until they were enroute also smacks of a complete disregard for other people as autonomous beings.

I know people seem to think that MM has had a bad influence on Harry, but I think it is more that in her he found his perfect sidekick to enable his victimhood and a willing accomplice to enact revenge on his family who for some reason he hates and resents.

No I haven't seen the video, can you post a link please.

Yes, a toxic combination.

I don’t see why people want the Sussexes titles removing

Because it's embarrassing for the whole country not to do so. High public office merits decent behaviour. If the incumbent can't behave properly, on whichever parameters have been determined to represent decency, they are stripped of their title and leave their role. It's called 'draining the swamp', I believe? There are several candidates for this - PA is one, as has been universally decided. H & M are another. KC is on the cusp. There will be others, undoubtedly.

yes we’ve seen that clip, but if you actually watch the video it clearly shows him placing his hand on the black persons hand .

I am hoping that PC will leave the option available for Archie and Lili to claim their titles upon adulthood. It is not their fault that they have dysfunctional parents. At the same time, giving them titles right now when they are as far removed from British royal life as is imaginable would alienate many royalists. I think PC is hinting at that when he wishes to see evidence of trust. It would only become clear when they turn into adults and he has legitimate grounds to doubt that their titles would be monetarized by their parents if given right away.

Doesn't embarrass me. Our government embarrasses me. Our media embarrasses me.

The Sussexes don’t have high public office! They moved continents - Harry is the Duke of Sussex. He just is. He wasn’t awarded it upon election. It’s like Mr, but posher. He is posher. No one tore the Duchess of Kent’s title away when she moved into teaching piano.

it’s just such a petty pointless thing to demand, and has no meaning really. I find elements of what they do annoying and others fine (she didn’t do anything wrong AT ALL at the funeral and I don’t know how anyone could say otherwise) but really, their titles? They don’t represent the state any more and so their titles are just names posh people have.

I don’t disagree at all, but it is parliament who would have to take steps to make this possible, and many many individual MPs are far too attached to their gongs and Knighthoods and elevation to the House of Lords to make them keen to vote for something that means their titles can be stripped if they become unpopular. They don’t even take titles away from MPs who have been to jail for dishonesty offences…

(Call me cynical but I genuinely believe that this will never happen)

They have those titles courtesy of the British RF - an institution that they hate and couldn't wait to leave. So why keep any connection to it?

Sept 2022 - the month we got Liz Truss and Charles as our main representatives - what a gift! 😂😂

What is the point of titles for the children in California? No one is going to give a monkeys about their titles over there.
The children won’t have a clue what the RF is about anyway. They’ll have been brought up as Americans. Not even knowing their relatives most likely. Why would M and H encourage their links to the RF they despise when they live in another country anyway??

Of course, and that's why it won't happen. However, these media pages are monitored for public sentiment, so...😀

The Duchess of Kent voluntarily stopped using her title and most of her pupils had no idea who she was . She wasn’t asked to .
She still occasionally attends Royal functions but tends to live a quiet life and certainly doesn’t criticise the RF.

O haven't seen it either. Where did this happen?

Arbesque · 26/09/2022 11:40

I've just watched it. He seems to have been shaking a line of people's hands, someone behind him said something and he turned around to answer, turned back shook someone else's hand then realised he had missed the coloured person out and reached out his hand to him.

Coucous · 26/09/2022 11:40

It's on Twitter / YouTube - he seemingly skips him and there's another one too where he skips another brown person - Maybe he was nervous or scared. Granted there are other videos where he doesn't - it doesn't really help when the whole world is watching you. Reminds me of the sesame st videos.

Prince Charles:

Also Prince Charles:

As Arnbesque says, you can see clearly in the first video that he turns his attention to the man/security guard to his right who is talking to him just as he gets to the crowd member in question, but still takes his hand as he does so, and then places his other hand on his forearm as he turns back.

Serenster · 26/09/2022 11:53

Oh - that is not the link I meant to paste in! It’s this one

Yes it's obvious isn't is. As if he'd do a walkabout and purposefully ignore someone knowing all cameras are on him!

To widen the reach of their own publicity and boost their own financial gain (of course, justified as being for the good of the children)? I see a Keeping Up With The Sussexes hitting our screens in a few years time. I think the titles will always open doors even if the justification for them is lacking.

Croque · 26/09/2022 12:32

They will never be insular American kids but globalist kids with a worldwide outlook playing down their use of the private jets just like mum and dad. H&M know that the titles are valuable.

Readinginthesun · 26/09/2022 12:33

Given the relatively short period of time that Meghan was a working member of the RF , I wonder how long the connection can be milked ? Surely there can’t be many more “ horror” stories to tell ?

DuchessOfPort · 26/09/2022 12:35

I don’t think it’s a good look for anyone if any institution, RF / Palace / Parliament / whoever, says “lose your titles if you criticise us”. It’s just not a good trend to start. Thin end of the wedge! It’s not just about the Sussexes, it’s about who else that rule could then apply to.

Aaaaaand that’s why I think that they shouldn’t be able to command police protection paid for by the taxpayer when they’re here whenever they fancy. It opens doors I don’t want opened.
