Anyone else think The Times should not be printing extracts from this new book about Royal Courtiers at this time? Incredibly stupid given that H&M are trying to mend fences? I feel really quite cross for everyone involved - William's efforts to build bridges etc, all going to be in vain now. Very naughty.

I'm not the slightest bit squirming, quite the opposite in fact. As Valentine Low said amongst his criticism of Meghan, the RF 'handled' her very badly. I've linked his tweet twice on here.
They are not blameless much as detractors of H&M would like to think.

Many many malicious stories and disgusting press. Feast your eyes on this.

Pretty poor it is too. You need to read the whole thread with examples given.

VL didn’t say that the Royal Family handled MM badly - he said the palace handled her badly….important to be accurate here - there are lots of people with skin in the game.

She has a lack of respect/tolerance for our cultural values and institutions (not the first American in my experience). She did not want to learn or to 'get it'.

Which cultural values and institutions are these?

The institution of Hosiery, Hats and Nail Polish, at minimum.

I would say firstly that she lacked comprehension of the RF culture of dressing as Granny wishes. Despite this seemingly minor issue, it has probably had more influence on fitting in with the family and being liked than any of us can fathom.

and @Croque please know many Americans do very much work to “get” and respect other cultures. Bit unfair to make this about us all.

Ohnonevermind · 25/09/2022 19:47

Sofia vergara was making 500,000 an episode for modern family - which shows the salary for a popular show. Each adult member of the cast were making that salary (negotiated together). So MM’s earnings were ‘moderate’

its useful to look at how busy casts are too, what work is in pre/poduction/post production afterwards too.

Did you not read the bit where the poster said it was nothing to do with the interview, and that means not part of our conversation.

Criticise me by all means, but because I used a word somewhere else, that type of criticism is pretty pathetic.

You are the one quite obviously being petty.

p.s. If I use the word petty elsewhere in another conversation with someone else, just bear in mind I am not talking about you
Grin

Actually @Roussette your reply was petty.

The other day you criticised me repeatedly because you didn't read my post. When I explained you hadn't read it, you said you hadn't been able to scroll back because you were on your phone. Even though one of my posts saying this was only one or two posts below and above several of your posts and wouldn't have required scrolling back at the time, I graciously didn't point this out, accepted what you said and said things were cool.

Now when I say I wasn't saying you used the word dredging, it was my word, but I know it had been used on this thread and possibly by you but I couldn't scroll back, you pompously reiterate your point and that you were right instead of being gracious and saying 'yes, fair enough'. That's petty.

Interesting when I answer your question about your twitter thread and for the most part agree Meghan was maligned in the press, you ignore that. You're not interested in being a gracious, balanced poster.

OK. The Palace. Not the Royal Family personally but the Palace which I presume means the courtiers who work for the Royal Family (as that's what the book is called!)

HeddaGarbled · 25/09/2022 19:51

Yes, thank you @myrtleWilson, that was very interesting.

Sorry but I won't lose sleep about your opinion of me. I prefer not to resort to labelling posters.

But thank you for agreeing Meghan was maligned in the press, we agree on that.

Harry and Meghan: ‘They felt cornered, misunderstood, deeply unhappy’

Thank you. The extracts are really well written and very interesting.

HannaHanna · 25/09/2022 19:53

I am sure no one feels like they “handled” either of them well.

But you know, who do you have to “handle”?

We really try not to let those out. 😂

I would say it’s a universal truth though and all you have to do is read one thread here about the US and you’ll see it’s the norm in both directions.

Her incompatibility for the role resurfaces time and again. She has a lack of respect/tolerance for our cultural values and institutions (not the first American in my experience). She did not want to learn or to 'get it'.

She wanted the Prince and the lifestyle of the super wealthy lifestyle. Her own money has been vastly, vastly exaggerated. Her wealth came from her first divorce settlement and limited success on a few daytime tv shows. She was living in a rental in Toronto with her biological clock ticking loudly. She did not care about the conditions attached to Harry and all of the downsides. It was her last, big chance to get the Hollywood prize. She never had the liberty to be picky like his previous girlfriends.

I agree.

What a mean post. Meghan was hardly going to remain left on the shelf. You have no idea who was interested in her. Hollywood prize indeedHmm

I think the palace includes the RF too, they’re not referring to the mice. And who employs the courtiers?

You just have …. in this exact quote thread - your words read:

You are the one quite obviously being petty.

queenofarles · 25/09/2022 20:02

and made £2million doing them per episode or a year?
if it’s yearly Then really it’s not much tbh, We make more than that p.a. 🤔

Croque · 25/09/2022 20:03

Meghan wasn't right for the job and even if the gutter press never existed, she would still have been totally incompatible and found an exit route. There is not a single part of the experience that she managed successfully ( family, staff, press, fashion, travel). It was obviously very hard for her. In turn, she made it very hard for the royals and is almost punishing them for her failures. She took out her incompatibility on palace staff. Sam Cohen reportedly made an interesting comment about Meghan setting herself up to fail on purpose.

IrisVersicolor · 25/09/2022 20:00

Just accuracy and attention to detail?

If VL wants to be specific that it is the palace distinct from the RF then assume there is a reason for it - or just add H&M to the RF too!

@Roussette was gracious enough to acknowledge her mistake so why not leave it there?

SilverLiningPlaybook · 25/09/2022 20:04

If it is true as the article says that M did H a massive favour in showing him a way to leave the RF, I am happy for him. I just can’t understand why he doesn’t look a lot happier and drop all the incriminations and petty pot shots. Along with his wife. Let them go off into the sunset and build their lives, quietly and without drama. It’s time to stop all the briefings and twitterings on both sides and learn to move on.
If Harry was wise he would not refer to his mother or his family in public again, and ask M to do the same. Let him be his own man from now on.

If it is also true as some posters claim that M is a millionaire , they both have plenty to live on . What with Diana’s inheritance, and the money H will have inherited from his grandparents, plus Ms millions, they should be set for life. They don’t need to sell their secrets for money or carry on being Professional Whiners.

The RF lives in the palace. So if he had simply meant palace staff I think he would have said exactly that.

I think there is something in that, however, I also think Harry had a part to play in helping her to fail too, it was in his interest.
