He looks so so young standing vigil. That must be hard.

Oh I know bless him. We were just saying that

He is only 14. Shouldn't be doing it.

I agree @Tree543

Presumably it was his choice. It was probably something he wanted to do. I cant imagine his parents forcing him Edward & Sophie are there watching

James is 14. Peter is 44. A 30 year age gap between the Queens eldest and youngest grandchild.

He probably wanted to be part of it

Apparently they were all asked if they wanted to, it wasn't compulsory. It is the first time grandchildren have stood vigil so it's not as if there is precedence.Perhaps he just wanted to pay his respects along with the others.

I've a DS of the same age. It's been said all the grandchildren wanted to do this, I think he's brave and in Sophie Wessex's shoes I would be both proud that he's doing this for his Granny and a bit worried for him

Agree he’s too young. The whole thing makes me feel a bit uncomfortable actually as I think some of the public are gawping at the young royals more than paying respects.

He is very young. Hope it was his choice. Also,
what will his medals be for?

I agree, Sophie looks so upset watching them 😪

True. I did notice Edward. So many of the grandkids look like they're just trying not to cry.

I think it's nice that he wanted to do it, Sophie & Edward don't seem pushy and it's good that they're there to support.

Harry was younger when he was pushed to walk behind his Mother by his grandfather. William must have been about James' age. Cruel.

If it's his choice I think it's fine. It's his nan who died at 96, not a parent or school friend.

Report
RoachTheHorse · 17/09/2022 18:16

I guess there is the possibility his parents only let him do it if they were also there in attendance in case he needed them, and I hope those of you who say he had the choice and wanted to be there are right.

It's a lot with the public filing by.

Literally just said. Imagine at 14 having to stand by your grandma's coffin for strangers to walk past. I know similar happened to Harry and William (I was too young then to see and understand), but this is on live, he's mostly out the limelight and it just broke my heart for him.

That's what I was wondering. Medals at 14 seems a bit mental.

I also get he will want to be there. Doesn't make it easier.

Very moving moment but can’t help but think 14 is too young. I hope he did choose to do it and hope he is okay having done it. It’s so high profile for children that have lived relatively private lives.

Lovely that his parents were there.

DisforDarkChocolate, William and Harry were not pushed to do anything by their grandfather. In fact their grandparents wanted to keep them at Balmoral until the funeral. It was Tony Blair who said they should be in London paraded in front of a hysterical public, the boys were asked if they wanted to walk behind their mother's coffin, they said they did and Prince Phillip said he would walk with them to support them in something they wanted to do.

All grandchildren chose to be there.
He wasn't forced! No one would dare after William and Harry ordeal..

I thought it was very moving if some what zoo like. One lady in particular seemed keen on staring at Zara!!

Harry and William looked especially handsome in their uniforms.

It's all been extraordinary, the scene's from Balmoral etc and now .

I don't know how they can top this for the funeral?
It seems like all the biggest punches have been pulled.

However I bet they will all be Very glad when it's over now.

The medals are the jubilee medals - he only has 2 to his older cousins’ 3 because he was born after the golden jubilee

Report
LIZS · 17/09/2022 18:24

Medals are likely jubilee medals. Just like the others in civilian dress. He is younger than William was 25 years ago.
