I do not think it is so easily sorted over a quick dinner.

I meant he could have seen, sat with HMQ more so than his father. The snub carried things on and she died knowing it.

It's Harry's birthday tomorrow. It seems quite a shit birthday. They must be missing their kids like crazy. It was supposed to be a short trip away from them.

I suspect the children have been in the Uk for days now having been brought over by the nanny and their granny.

How come he didn't get there until late on Thursday then?

He had to source his own flight and this took time. And I believe he also had to fly out of a less central to London airport than the others did so that also added time to his journey.

I think from the outset him (and Megan) were going to be going it alone and it delayed his arriving in Balmoral.

Iliveonahill · 14/09/2022 18:28

Of course it will trigger memories. Every time I go to a funeral I’m reminded of my mum’s death. You never ever get over your mum dying if you had a good loving relationship with her.

Thank goodness William was the elder son. Empathetic and "normal" (well as normal as a royal is allowed to be) without all the emotional grandstanding of his brother.

Meh, you can have no idea how William would have turned out if he'd had an older brother, if he'd been put into the role of spare. Or if the eggs and sperms had met in different order and Harry was older.

As for "fawning" and all this inappropriate touching. She's holding his hand, not stroking his penis for goodness sake. He isn't a working Royal, he isn't in the military, frankly anyone more invested in if their flesh touched than in the proceedings need to have a word with themselves

PolkaDotShoes · 14/09/2022 18:30

I felt sorry for him too, because of the above, and also because he wasn't allowed to wear military uniform.
I'm not from a military background so don't understand the ins and outs of it but it seemed pretty ironic that the only two senior royals who are actually war heroes (Andrew in the Falklands and Harry in Afghanistan) were the two banned from wearing the uniform 🤷‍♀️ His millitary service is a huge part of who Harry is, so that must have hurt too.
Who knows, but I could imagine him walking along and thinking "Fuck me, this family and this system is so fucking dysfunctional; I did the right thing getting out"

I have read that he was offered one seat on the flight that was going from Northolt with other members of the family, but wanted one for Meghan too. The deliberations meant that the flight was around an hour late taking off for Aberdeen.

I genuinely hope that the situation will have confirmed to Meghan and Harry that they have made the right decision for themselves.

With regard to uniforms, I would have loved DH to wear his officer's uniform at our wedding, but as he had already left the Navy after 8 years service, it wasn't allowed. Why should anyone else been treated differently?

bellac11 · 14/09/2022 18:40

I wonder if he wanted to do it, I cant imagine he did but was he forced or was he ok with it?

Im watching it now and find the music a bit odd, did the queen choose this, its almost cheerful, very strange

So is it ok for Zara and Mike to hold hands, but not Meghan & Harry?

I don't think anyone would ever dispute the deep love and affection Zara had for her grandmother and holding hands with her husband wouldn't even raise an eyebrow. Yet another grandchild holding hands with his wife means they are disrespectful?

Honestly, some of you are just plain pathetic.

I swear Harry and Meghan were holding hands as they walked out of the church.
Why oh why can they not just give respect to this dear lady?

So what ? Zara and Mike were also holding hands.

I’d read about the delay but that was way after it had been announced in the press Megan would not be going. I honestly believe they/he decided they’d do their own thing with regards to Balmoral.

Harry is being banned from wearing his military uniform as it is not protocol - he is not a working Royal.
But Andrew is also not a working Royal and can wear his military uniform at the lying in state.
So the protocol is ignored when they want to if you are a favoured family member.

Funny how people also ignore him groping his daughter's arse while ranting about a married couple holding hands.
Vile.

Not an Andrew fan, but that's a sick thing to allege!

I really hope this is not true (and I’m being completely genuine in case anyone has any doubt). This would be really awful for all concerned if that one hour delay made the difference between family getting to see the Queen before she died or not. That would be awful for PH to live with and would be very difficult to forgive by the family members sitting on that plane.

NanaNelly · 14/09/2022 18:46

I'm not from a military background so don't understand the ins and outs of it but it

You can only wear your uniform If you are still serving in the military. Once you’ve left that’s it’s unless you hold honorary appointments.

And yes Andrew and Harry went to war but Charles also served time in the Air Force and the Royal Navy.

In your opinion that’s what he was doing but not everyone is in agreement with you.

My memories of Diana's death are of general national annoyance at the (initial) complete radio silence from the royal family, and the apparent refusal to acknowledge that a lot of their 'subjects' were actually quite shocked and upset and that (rightly or wrongly) they still thought of Diana as royal because she was still a princess. So the flag thing looked petty.

I think if a single one of the senior royals had done a broadcast early on saying something like, 'what a dreadful time, the boys are staying at Balmoral, they are children, please understand that this is best for them, god bless you all for caring', it would have all been a lot better. But no, the public got the fuck off pills, and then it spiralled out of control.

This is exactly what happened, I dont know and dont remember any expecting that they come down to London to publicly grieve but there was anger that it was complete silence from them. It was perfectly reasonsable for them to have said that we have 2 grieving children here and we are staying in Balmoral until the funeral and make a statement about the loss of Diana but they didnt say anything at all and they lost respect by doing that

They arrived back from Düsseldorf on Tuesday late evening .

You are right, it was a hectic schedule.

"After the Invictus engagements, the plane left Dusseldorf at 8.51pm, landing back at Northolt under an hour later. They were then driven the 20 miles to Windsor.

They were free from Wednesday morning until Thursday evening. And had the previous weekend at Windsor.
