The royal family

Do you think they knew the Queen was about to die last week?

Do you think that they knew that the Queen was about to die last week? It seems that they probably did on the actual day because there was some decline and Charles and Anne hurried to be with her. But they were both in Scotland at the time so reasonable handy.

But the rest of the family were not there and didn’t make it there until after her death. But maybe that was the plan so that she could die quietly and only Charles and Anne would be present, so that it didn’t draw attention and turn into a media circus.

I know it doesn’t matter, but I just wondered if it was a carefully crafted plan to give the Queen some peace at the end, or if it actually came as a bit of a surprise last week?

Who is they?

Nekomata · 11/09/2022 06:46

I think they knew she was very ill but I don't think they knew when it would be exactly.

Goldfishmountainclimber · 11/09/2022 06:47

Her family and the royal machine that organises them. I don’t think that much is left to chance with the management of the Royal Family.

They all knew she was ill, plus of course very old but I don't think they knew it was that imminent plus I strongly doubt the Queen would have allowed them to fuss. She only met Liz Truss a couple of days prior. I'm pretty sure if they had realised how imminent it was all 4 of her children would have been there, however whether you are royal or not it was be hard to predict

sidewayswalking · 11/09/2022 06:50

Do you really think William, Edward, Sophie and the other one flew to Aberdeen deliberately to just miss her passing? Seriously? You think that was a plan?

Redglitter · 11/09/2022 06:52

If they'd had more of an inclination it was imminent her family would have been there sooner. The fact they all rushed up & were too late would suggest it was unexpected.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 11/09/2022 06:58

i cant imagine they would have allowed her prime minister business - not that she would have wanted to miss it, i presume she had the last say there

ProperSorryFrown · 11/09/2022 06:59

I'm wondering if she had a fall. I work in a care home and falls really do contribute to a swift decline.

Justleaveitblankthen · 11/09/2022 07:02

No, because her last photo receiving her new Prime Minister was just 48 hours before..
I think she took ill soon afterwards.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 11/09/2022 07:03

It was reported in passing that Charles was close by and visiting daily. I thought then that she must be very unwell.

Skidamarinkadinkadink · 11/09/2022 07:03

I have a source - it was a complete surprise and was a very rapid decline ☹️

MrsLargeEmbodied · 11/09/2022 07:05

i thought someone said it was a stroke

JasmineIndigo · 11/09/2022 07:10

I think they knew she was unwell, but didn’t think her death was imminent- one of the reasons that Kate and Wills moved their family to Windsor was so they could see her more regularly.

Mummyoflittledragon · 11/09/2022 07:13

It happened quickly as not all of her children arrived in time. It is obvious she was slowly declining and didn’t have long for this world. At this juncture, anything small can happen to hasten the process.

Festoonlights · 11/09/2022 07:13

I don't think anyone was prepared at all, no.
You can see by the hasty logistics and the difficulties that no one thought this was going to happen in the way that it did.

Why do old people always "have a fall" instead of just "fell"??

GhostFromTheOtherSide · 11/09/2022 07:15

God, haven’t we already had one of these threads full of speculation about how it happened and people claiming they know someone who knows someone who knows….?

Fact is she was 96 and was frail. She might not even have actually been ill but was frail none the less, and at 96 you can die just like that. Lots of people go and see their elderly parents daily. My great uncle used to go and see my great granny every day to check on her. He did it for years afaik because she still lived independently.

One day he went to say goodnight, she sat down in the chair, gave a little sigh, and was dead. She was 98. It really can happen like that at that age, there doesn’t even need to be a contributing factor. People die when they get old.

NiceTwin · 11/09/2022 07:17

No.

FrenchFancie · 11/09/2022 07:24

My own grandmother is 95 and very very frail - between the various family members she is seen most days in her nursing home. To be honest on any given day the nursing home could ring me and say she’s taken a turn for the worst and is dying, and I wouldn’t be surprised, but it’s not like we’re expecting it either. To be honest at that advanced age every day is an extra day….

TraceyGerbil · 11/09/2022 07:30

@ChagSameachDoreen I’ve always wondered what the cut off age is when you stop falling over and have a fall. My mother said she “had a fall” in the garden (she’s 89) but my 85 year old father in law said he “fell over” when he was hiking in the Rockies this summer.

SuperCamp · 11/09/2022 07:33

Please stop all this pointless prurient speculation.

I would hate it if my Mum was subjected to this. It’s as tasteless as the ‘media circus’ you talk about. What’s the difference? A MN circus of prurient speculation.

But your mum isn't a public figure who was funded by the state. Not up to you what people discuss.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 11/09/2022 08:12

she probably stayed in scotland intentionally, her mother was scottish, she loved scotland

LadyFromage · 11/09/2022 08:17

I can think of no better place to go, than Balmoral - looking out of the window at the landscape topped by the cairns of your ancestors.

Sounds perfect, to me.

sashagabadon · 11/09/2022 08:18

I can’t believe for a second they would have her up and fully dressed, hair done etc meeting both Boris and Liz if they/ she knew she would die next day. No way would that have been allowed to happen. It was completely unexpected imo.
