Do you think they knew the Queen was about to die last week?

Do you think that they knew that the Queen was about to die last week? It seems that they probably did on the actual day because there was some decline and Charles and Anne hurried to be with her. But they were both in Scotland at the time so reasonable handy.

But the rest of the family were not there and didn’t make it there until after her death. But maybe that was the plan so that she could die quietly and only Charles and Anne would be present, so that it didn’t draw attention and turn into a media circus.

I know it doesn’t matter, but I just wondered if it was a carefully crafted plan to give the Queen some peace at the end, or if it actually came as a bit of a surprise last week?

Yes, the Queen mother's father was Claude Bowes-Lyon, Earl of Glamis. (As in Glamis thou art and Cawdor, and shalt be what thou art promised).

As most aristos of the time, she spent her time between Glamis and London.

I also can't imagine allowing the pm swop happening if they knew she could go at any moment!
How crass!

That had been scheduled for months though, so the family and the Queen herself probably preferred to just get through the hour or two she was needed rather than alert the world to how ill she was. Imagine having that circus camped outside for days or weeks just waiting.

Its normal to refer to most people in this way - the man over the road died in his care home and we asked each other "oh had they expected it" - meaning his family and the staff caring for him, exactly the same as people mean when they say "they" in reference to the royal family.

I don't think so. However, opinions differ.

It was clear death was imminent due to the end stage cancer heammoraghing on her hands and arms but imminent can be a day or a week. My own grandmother held on for about 4 days afte that haemorrhaging appeared. Her whole body was one big bruise. There was no way the whole family could go to Scotland and wait.

so yes they knew it was imminent, that’s why Anne and Charles were in Scotland to be on hand, and were able to be with her at the end, but they’d not know when, but they knew it was in the coming days.

Dinoteeth · 11/09/2022 09:02

They knew she was frail, it wasn't hard to see, but the actual end was very sudden, heart attack, stroke or something.

If she'd been on her death bed they wouldn't wasn't have dragged her up to meet Lis Truss.

Ann was there, but Charles wasn't exactly handy. Wednesday night he was 3 and half hours away by road at Dumfries House, in South West Scotland, Balmoral Castle is in the North East. He got a helicopter back north.

Google maps says 3.5 hours I'd have thought it was a longer drive than that.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 11/09/2022 09:05

In any event, it seems like she was blessed with a good death and a good long life.

He was always handy as they had a helicopter on stand by.

and it wasn’t sudden, the palace put out an announcement she was under medical supervision, Charles was there by 10.30 and she died early afternoon.

it’s often the way with cancer.

Given that we live in a constitutional monarchy I'm not sure that anything else could have happened while she was still drawing breath? It's hardly as if it was live streamed, and all hell would have broken loose if they had said there'll be no kissing of hands because the queen is likely to die at any moment.

The Queen had cancer???

MrsLargeEmbodied · 11/09/2022 09:09

she didnt go to the braemar games,
her family represented her.

we were hoping she would make the platinum jubilee remember,
it was good she was still on her feet to see the new PM

FayeGovan · 11/09/2022 09:10

Well if it was very sudden its the best way to go.

Cancer?

Source??

stitchinguru · 11/09/2022 09:12

@MsMiaWallace
Yes, didn’t you know - all of her personal physicians are right here on Mumsnet.
They will be writing up the death certificate as we speak!!
Really people.

Midlifemusings · 11/09/2022 09:13

I don't think so. It seems pretty sudden. I read somewhere she had called to place her regular bets on the horses this past week and I don't think was planning her death. The family wasn't all there and she was still taking on her duties.

She clearly had been unwell but she has had periods of ill health over the past months so this likely seemed like another one, until her heart just gave out or something happened suddenly.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 11/09/2022 09:13

yes cancer- as per a poster on mumsnet - you heard it here first and only

Etinoxaurus · 11/09/2022 09:15

Something happened Tuesday morning 😟it was obvious from the HoC Speaker’s intervention at lunchtime and the way the TV went to rolling news with black ties, family were gathering before we were told.

Mypy · 11/09/2022 09:16

Well, it was reported that Charles didn’t go to an appointment the night before she passed, instead choosing to stay at Balmoral.

It’s also been reported that before Liz Truss began her energy statement in Parliament, she was made aware that she was seriously ill.

In that case, I think we can be sure that the notes passed round the front benches were actually letting the MPs know that she had passed away.

Let’s not forget that BP only announced Meghan was in labour once the baby had already been delivered.

Eupraxia · 11/09/2022 09:17

Does the PM meeting the monarch have to be the Queen? Could they have met Prince Charles (at the time) in her place?

While I'm here - what is this age going to be called? Charlesian?

MrsLargeEmbodied · 11/09/2022 09:17

it was wendesday

The foreign press have been reporting this for some time. Obviously embargoed in the U.K.

Kellie45 · 11/09/2022 09:18

We knew she was very frail and so it didn’t come as a huge shock but we were rather surprised at the suddenness of it

sidewayswalking · 11/09/2022 09:18

What was Wednesday?
