The royal family

Do you think they knew the Queen was about to die last week?

Do you think that they knew that the Queen was about to die last week? It seems that they probably did on the actual day because there was some decline and Charles and Anne hurried to be with her. But they were both in Scotland at the time so reasonable handy.

But the rest of the family were not there and didn’t make it there until after her death. But maybe that was the plan so that she could die quietly and only Charles and Anne would be present, so that it didn’t draw attention and turn into a media circus.

I know it doesn’t matter, but I just wondered if it was a carefully crafted plan to give the Queen some peace at the end, or if it actually came as a bit of a surprise last week?

Like she'd have gotten over Covid in a week at the age of 96 with 'advanced cancer'.

Mumsnet takes me to the fair sometimes.

Well, my mum, who passed away a few weeks ago, and who was only a couple of years younger than the queen, and who had advanced cancer did. She had Covid about a month or so before she passed away. Felt a bit tired, that was it. People are different, even very elderly, very sick people. You can’t judge one against another.

A month after she had Covid, Mum was given 6 months to live and then passed away within a week. It was like she gave herself permission to go. We too had a call, and we didn’t make it in time, like Edward et al. The doctors said it’s often the way.

I wouldn’t be surprised if HMQ did have advanced cancer, but I’m also not her doctor, and I don’t have a source.

My team were asked to do some work urgently in relation to the queen's funeral. We were told it was urgent but also 'routine', like a 'yearly check' or something and we weren't to read too much into it. It also had to be kept 'top secret'. They were really jumpy and clammed up if we tried to get more information. They kept pushing us for updates and to get it finished asap, so we put extra hours in etc to get it all doneand finished it two weeks ago. We haven't heard a thing since, not even a thank you. We were suspicious something was going on and now I think they 'knew' she was deteriorating. Something terminal maybe?

Fell over - means tripped over something

Have a fall - means fell down, often without tripping just because legs go.

Not sure that's really how we use it.

Five year olds fall over without tripping and noone says they "had a fall".

I tripped over a threshold in a shop doorway, I was about thirty, flat on my face in Regent Street. A woman of about eighty came over to help me up and she said "oh, you poor thing, I've taken a fall myself in the past" and I thought, I didn't take a fall, I tripped over! But it's just colloquialism.

many elderly people have hands like that

sunglassesonthetable · 11/09/2022 10:54

If "they" knew the queen was about to die "they" messed up with Andrew, Edward and William.

StellaGibson2022 · 11/09/2022 11:02

Exactly this.

I also think that she has planned every aspect of it, with her Children and advisors.

I also think that despite feeling ill on Tuesday she mustered what strength she has left (along with pain relieving medication) to see off Boris and welcome Liz Truss.

A truly truly wonderful lady

Not a reliable source

Maybe, maybe not. I didn’t say either way.

zingally · 11/09/2022 11:09

No. She was meeting Boris and Liz Truss 48 hours beforehand. Yes, she was very old, and had noticably declined physically in the past year, but I don't think her death was expected within the next few days.
I suspect she had some sort of catastrophic event early-ish on Thursday morning, possibly a stroke or an aneurism. Based on the fact she wasn't rushed to hospital, I would imagine she was found in bed, still alive, but obviously something was very wrong. I think if there had been a sudden collapse once she was up and about for the day, there would have been more of a panic and they'd have called an ambulance during that panic.

If she was in bed, obviously something wrong, but seemingly comfortable enough, that initial panic for a 96 year old wouldn't have been so great.

JuneBrowning · 11/09/2022 11:13

I think you are over-thining it all too much @Goldfishmountainclimber and you are in the realms of fantasy.

Do you truly think that her death was 'planned' which is what you seem to say?

She'd been ill for a long time.

What people seem to forget or not know is that over a year ago , her drs ordered her to stop drinking (!) She used to have a drink at lunch and with her dinner.

That makes it look as if she had high blood pressure or was on other meds that interact with alcohol. BUT given her swollen ankles/ calves and the unhealed varicose ulcer on her righ calf (it's been there for years and clearly visible in all the photos going back years),it looks as if she has had CVD for some time.

My guess is she had a stroke or a heart attack and they could not resussitate her.

I know it's maybe not tasteful to speculate on the cause of her death but that's because the Palace never reveals why. The same happened with the D of E. He was in hospital for weeks with heart issues/ surgery yet cause of death was given as 'old age' which was clearly not the case.

Cancer can be very quick. From onset to death. And a photo can be misleading. Here is Olivia newton john, the image was taken three days before she sadly passed.

either way I think it is very clear there was more going on with the queen than simply she was 96. The decline was incredibly rapid in the last few months. The fact she continued to rarely appear briefly and didn’t announce any health issues is no surprise. Neither did her husband prince philip. In this they keep their privacy.

@Mypy who is political bashing?

(even if I were you could scroll on by if you don’t like it?)

MrsLargeEmbodied · 11/09/2022 11:13

i am sure i heard somewhere that her medical team were anxious about her meeting the PM and unsure about it

PleaseGoDontGoAgain · 11/09/2022 11:15

"Obviously she was gonna die she was 96", Well Done to everyone who points this out, of course the question being asked is about how imminent her death was and whether there were signs of it, not how long humans normally live.

So sick of the sneering from people about this topic. You don't need to jump on every thread to point out that old people die, if you're uninterested don't click on the thread

Pyewhacket · 11/09/2022 11:17

You're right. It doesn't matter.

katepilar · 11/09/2022 11:21

Why does it matter what people, who know nothing about it, think?

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 11/09/2022 11:23

How ghoulish.

sunglassesonthetable · 11/09/2022 11:27

How ghoulish.

Nope I think discussion around death is helpful. And done more.

sunglassesonthetable · 11/09/2022 11:27

should be done more

bellabasset · 11/09/2022 11:28

The Queen had had tests last autumn with an overnight stay in hospital so she may have been diagnosed with an illness then. I think that Anne, Charles and Camilla had planned to stay in Scotland till she returned to Windsor. Due to her fraility when she met Liz Truss I don't think there was any surprise when her death was announced.

One of the loveliest last memories of her will be her with Louis on the balcony watching the flypast to celebrate her jubilee.

Skidamarinkadinkadink · 11/09/2022 07:03

I have a source - it was a complete surprise and was a very rapid decline ☹️

How much of a surprise can it be when somebody of 96 dies ?
At that age somebody can just go in their sleep.

Mummaforlife26 · 11/09/2022 11:32

Hey, I've started weaning my lo (7 months) for about 1 month now and for 2 weeks has been having pureed meals for dinner, I want to start giving him breakfast- the heinz baby banana porridge but it says with water, can I not use his formula milk instead of water? :)

Supersimkin2 · 11/09/2022 11:32

I think HM RIP is allowed her privacy, but chances are she had a stroke.

Whatever she already had wrong with her, wasn’t that. Clearly a shock to all altho not unexpected.

This photo was posted on Instagram just before O N-J died. It was not taken then, it is an old photo.

She certainly was duty til the end.

That's how she should be remembered.

Her cause of death is irrelevant. She was 96. She'd lost her husband the year before whom she loved dearly and was her greatest companion for 3/4 of her life.

It's hard to find the energy she found at such a frail age. Not many can live until 96. But certainly very few can work until the end.
