It feels like we're being slowly prepared for her passing away. I feel unexpectedly tearful.

'Impressive' is not the word I would use! Hmm

I meant as in the lengths people go to. Plane spotting etc…

Cleothecat75 · 08/09/2022 15:52

I thought she would stay at home for the children as someone will have to tell them and that should really be a parent. If Kate was in Scotland, the children can’t go to school tomorrow as someone else would tell them. If any normality is to be in place for them, Kate would need to be at home for them.

She has also apparently picked up the children personally.

I feel tearful too. What is it with people who have to have a dig? State why should we care etc etc. Well why should we care about anything we see and hear if we dont actually know the people concerned.

And as for those who go on and on about the cost and if only we had a republic... well - President Blair sounded good didnt it? They bring in huge amount of tourism into the UK. I have just come back from the US. They are in SUCH a mess. New York was dirty, homeless people and clearly those with MH issues being allowed to wander around with people stepping over them.

The only thing I dont like is the Markle and Harry show. Can they just keep a low profile. It really isnt about them. I spoke to a couple of people whilst away and they are embarrassed re Markle's behaviour.

There is so much factually wrong with your post, but in the spirit of this thread I won't pull it to pieces

Exactly. It is pretty obvious what is happening. It is following the written plan of what happens in the event of her death.

I thought she always did?

Lol

Quite normal for the BBC to suspend all its programs yes!

You know full well the speculation has gone way beyond that. We know that there are serious concerns re the queen’s health, and the fact that the BBC has suspended programming is fairly indicative that it’s serious. But all the speculation as to when it will happen/that it already has, and that there will be an announcement at 6 PM is really quite unpleasant.

Pyri · 08/09/2022 15:43

Apparently in the London Bridge emergency documents the new monarch makes an announcement at 6pm on the day of the queen passing so we could hear from Prince Charles

What happens if she dies after 6 pm?

I feel so emotional about this I actually had a little cry, which is not like me given that I'm no real fan of the royals.

You're right though, it's the end of an era and I feel its a shit time to go when everything is in such a mess. It would have been nice to have had our house in order a bit more, instead of being panicked to billio about energy prices, war and the environment.

She's been our steadfast head of state all this time. I hope Liz Truss was able to reassure her of things during her visit the other day.

Liz Truss reassure the Queen?

Oh do come on, the Queen is anything but stupid.

The Met police have been informed that she is expected to pass away in the next 48 hours

Like all those military types (so called) who knew Prince Philip was dead weeks before he died and announced it on here.

The Gibbo WhatsApp messages will forever be remembered, I think #Gibbo is trending on twitter 🤦🏻‍♀️

Why isn't Kate going

Maybe because her three children started a new school today?

With all due respect, if you don't want speculation why are you on this thread then

PP moaning the thread is maudlin – how do you expect people to be? Confident of her full recovery? Talking about how she'll be back at the gates of Buck Palace any day soon?

She's a 96-year-old woman who has been in declining health for the past year. No one's wishing her dead, but to suggest any thread about this should be upbeat is a bit ridiculous.

Apologies everyone. I have been working all morning and haven't had the TV or radio on. I did not know about all her family going to see her. She seemed fine the other day, but it seems like this is serious and she is quite unwell. She seemed fine with Liz Truss the other day.

Sorry for posting without looking properly first.

I hope our Queen will be OK. Sad

Will shops definitely close tomorrow if the Queen dies today? Sorry not to be disrespectful just that I have to do the weekly shop.

Can’t imagine all the shops would be closed (certainly all day).

In saying that I do expect most things will be altered over the 10 days after her death. When Diana died I recall the Premier League games were postponed (I had ordered the Liverpool vs Newcastle game on Sky which was called off and not played until five months later), with the Queen the effect will be even greater.

I don't think you quite grasp the different political systems that exist in the US and UK.

Maybe some reading up is in order.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 08/09/2022 15:59

Posted too soon! Hope she will be OK, but this looks bad.... Sad

I think she'll be gone by February.

Without being too ghoulish about it - I think it's more imminent than that. The announcement just now seemed more like a pre-warning to soften the blow in the next few days to me. Maybe/hopefully I'm wrong.

Why do you hope you are wrong? She's 96, she is I am sure not wanting to linger in death, she's up until now be sharp or mind and carried out royal duties up until two days ago.

Why do you not hope that she actually peacefully slips away now as she is clearly very unwell and her time has come.

Why would she want to linger on until February, what purpose does that serve her? And it's about her and not any one else.

antelopevalley · 08/09/2022 16:02

I agree. Dying in extreme old age without a major deterioration in mental acuity is fairly rare and a fortunate way to die.

We figured it was a dead cert once Huw Edwards had his black tie.

For all those who want to know what happens when the Queen does go, this article is interesting and informative

My uncle Davie's auntie Sheila works in Tesco and she has been informed the queen is still alive

But she looked okay only yesterday? surely she wouldn't be up and working is she was at death's door? when my great grandmother died she was 98 and still lived independently. One of her sons used to check on her every night, one night he went to see her, she sat down in her chair, gave a little sigh and was gone.

When you’re that age it really is possible just to die without needing to be ill.

And I bet that was the way that your Great Grandmother would've wanted it?

i think so too, I think it is following a script and we’re being prepared, if she’s not dying it is probably a serious medical event which will take her out of working life now. But let’s be civil with each other, no one on here really knows and it’s ok to express different beliefs and guesses.
