A positive and non-bashing thread about Meghan and Harry

MrsMaxDeWinter · 06/09/2022 07:40

I have rejoined Mumsnet after leaving a few times. The first time I left was because I was concerned about the coverage and uncomfortable undertone of the commentary on Meghan Markle after the engagement was announced, before she had said a word, and before she had married into the Royal Family.

I came back around the time she and Harry left the UK, to be stunned by the pages and pages upon pages of virulent threads. At that time Mumsnet actually banned all threads about Meghan, it had become so toxic.

They have now made their lives in Montecito, but still the virulence continues. Yes, she speaks in a mix of therapy plus corporate gobbledegook, yes, she is occasionally vapid and irritating.

But who is she actually harming that she deserves all this virulence?

Yesterday, when the new UK Prime Minister was elected, the coverage in the Super Tory Daily Mail was all about a seven minute speech to a bunch of young people. Article after article after article. Body language experts. Counting the number of times she said "I" in a speech in which she sought to inspire young people by attempting to relate to them. Before that, 18 articles were devoted to the first podcast by the Daily Mail alone. 18!

Same with her podcasts. The series is about HER and HER take on labels, and she discusses HER take with HER guests.

It's all very anodyne, even vanilla. It does not deserve any of the vitriol sent her way.

SO:

As the next twelve weeks are going to be wall to wall Meghan, and the Meghan haters and detractors have several threads here that fill up rapidly with bile, scorn and mockery, I have started this thread, reminiscent of previous " positive" threads, to talk about what some of us like, enjoy, find amusing and even (gasp) admire, in the next few Meghan rich weeks.

If you don't have anything positive to say, that's okay, you can keep to the existing threads.

Looking forward to a bile-free discussion of everything Meghan!

Well yes read my first sentence. I’m talking about the hatred Meghan gets from the public.

When one is disliked, one can ask the question why? The reason Meghan is disliked is because of who she is. The fact that the only claim to real fame she has lies in that she married a royal yet she insists on bashing that very institution that brought her fame after refusing after a remarkably short time to do any form of duty by it. People are tired of her constant narcissism and her whining and complaining about how hard her life is as a celebrity living in a multi million pound house and flying all over the world in private jets while people over here are trying to make ends meet. It does grate. Added to which the ridiculous things she says and the claims she makes, many of which are proven to be false

DFOD · 09/09/2022 14:15

Maybe people dislike her hypocrisy as she tub thumps for women’s rights - but tolerates / includes / is silent on sexual assault and trafficking by a member of her family?

Again, read my post properly. You know exactly what I mean. Thank you for proving my point.

Roussette · 09/09/2022 14:27

FFS Meghan is blamed for Andrew now. Do you ever listen to yourself?
Posters like to incessantly remind us what a short time she was in the RF, yet it's her responsibility now????
What about Charles. What about Edward. What about Anne. What about Philip. They were there. They knew. They were complicit

They were all there when he was.parading his sex trafficker friend, and procurer of girls Maxwell at 4 of the royal residences.

Meghan wasnt

Yet it's MMs fault?

I know now 1000% the hatred is beyond irrational for comments like that.

Keep rising above it Meghan

Yes this is much worse than sexual assault. It’s funny, as I couldn’t care less about defending Meghan, I’m certainly not a fan but the double standards are astounding. Took me a while to realise but I see it clearly now.

Hate the concept of royalty and the family but have always cared about the Queen. I’m not a fan of Meghan and certainly not Harry since his racist days but what really makes me realise how unreasonable the Meghan hatred is when people yesterday were making digs about Meghan and Harry but seemed to overlook the presence of the one that’s been accused of sexual assault. Says a lot about these royalists really.

Yes - this is what is going round in circles .
If you say that on a royalist thread they will say it's dealt with .
It really isn't .

Other posters are saying if I'm a republican ( and I bloody am) why am I not bashing Harry too.
I ask myself the same question .
But there is something...
If I'm proved wrong as he's as bad as the rest -life wil be easier

I am over tired today ( not from watching the bbc I hasten to add!)

I always read you posts and think yes ! That's what I should have said

well said.
I do wonder why posters who want to rip M to shreds don't start there own thread.

Ihaveanoldiphone · 09/09/2022 14:36

The funny thing is I’ve been posting on mumsnet for a while and never has someone constantly replied to my comment this many times. If I’m lucky someone will notice my comment once but wow on this ‘positive’ meghan thread people just can’t help themselves, you’re so desperate to “prove” how awful she is. She probably is all those things but I’m not talking about that. It’s actually comical.

It should be the responsibility of his brothers and sisters and parents to speak out. Not someone who had barely joined the RF.
What about Sophie then? Kate,? Camilla, she champions women's rights with some of her charities? Where was she?
They were THERE when this was going on.
Meghan was not

Yes Andrew is a fool and he’s not a working royal anymore. And every politician is also whiter than white who were pals with Epstein?

Exactly @Roussette let’s minimise his behaviour and blame it on Meghan. Goodness, just when you think these people couldn’t sink any lower. Getting more than my money’s worth here.

There's some parody accounts on Twitter I follow and they are so funny

I can only presume that someone is channelling that idea. I do hope so!

Because the idea that Meghan should be speaking out about Prince Andrew, when his family has not, and probably never will, is just like something someone would post on a parody a/c and I would laugh

thefoggiest · 09/09/2022 15:04

What I don't get about Meghan is her choice of stylist. Did you see the red thing they had her in two days ago?

I loved it. I really like that colour, it wasn't 'a thing'
I don't like all she wears by the way. And I have said so before.
Also liked the Germany peach palazzo pants and high necked cut away shoulder top

Ohnonevermind · 09/09/2022 15:15

Epstein was a horrible man. A final blow was how he tied up his money in offshore trusts to ensure that his victims could never get the deserved compensation. What kind of sick man does that. If that happened VG and all thee other victims would have looked for deserved financial compensation from the man who groomed and trafficked them.

Andrew is a nasty man who had sex with a 17 year old in the U.K. if that was a crime the jails would be full. It’s not. Andrew may have even won the case in the US, but every detail of his sordid life would have been on show, so he would probably be even more reviled than he is now, it is not surprising that he settled.

On a separate note. I hate lying and I don’t like liars. These include Donald Trump, Boris Johnson and Megan Markle. Other people don’t seem to mind lying, that’s their business.

I don’t like how she has tried to paint the U.K. as racist to push her profile in the US, how she embellished, and deliberately mislead or misunderstood to make her point.

i dislike how some posters on here view tHem as some kind of heroes displaying the same critical thinking skills of Trump fans

Yes they are all hypocrites.

Silence is compliance.

Each of them were all active apologists by including him in their public events.

However on your list you missed out The Queen - she arguably was the most complicit in funding his settlement.

Why couldn’t she speak out?

She is a campaigning independent woman.

Why not?

thefoggiest · 09/09/2022 15:22

Each to their own but I thought it was hideous and ill fitting

Lampzade · 09/09/2022 15:24

Some of the anti Meghan posts are so utterly ridiculous and many irresponsible.
If I were Meghan and Harry, I would be beefing up my security.
Some nutcase will soon accuse her of
killing the Queen by taking Harry away.
Some of you need to take a long hard look at yourselves. Your ridiculous rantings are probably endangering the life of Harry and Meghan .

Ohnonevermind · 09/09/2022 15:24

The cream outfit - high waisted trousers that Simon cowell would be proud of and a lack of support in the chest area which meant her chest practically rubbed off the top of the trousers due to her very short body

Her shoulders looked nice though.

Why couldn’t she speak out?

She is a campaigning independent woman.

Why not?

Listen to yourself. She would've been slaughtered on here, in all the media, everywhere.
You KNOW she would.
Do not tell me she would've gained respect for speaking out, she would've been annihilated. I imagine, like Lampzade says, it would have resulted in a huge security issue, as it would have been seen as criticising the royal family.

However, that is your view and you are entitled to it

Would you answer the question...why didn't Camilla? A champion of women's rights with charities. Ditto Sophie, her charities are to do with women? Kate?

Why does it have to be the frequently attacked Meghan who was not even IN the RF at the time of his more than a decade long friendship with Epstein. And his 20 or 30 year friendship with Maxwell.
Why her?
Isn't it embarrassing and awful that those members of the RF didn't speak out? But yet you expect the newest member to? I won't speak about the Queen at the moment

If you want me to link to Sophie and Camilla's charities I will but can't on my mobile at the moment

MrsMaxDeWinter · 09/09/2022 15:43

This is truly getting comical.😁

So Meghan is at fault for not speaking out about Andrew's behaviour?? And just how would that have gone over in the media?

Her sins are truly multiplying to super villain levels.

First she somehow confounded the establishment with her two fake kids, who, despite not being real, are in the line of succession. Then she killed the Queen's husband, then she killed the Queen.

And her podcasts and interviews are going to destroy the monarchy, the same monarchy that has been around since William the Conqueror crossed from France in 1066.

All while wearing a "red thing" and having a "short body".

Honestly, if she is this powerful, you may as well make her queen. I mean, she has the short body for it!
