With another podcast set for release this week, The Sunday Times has a piece addressing Harry and Meghan's apparent strategy:

Courtiers are bemused by the Sussexes’ determination to rage against the past. As Davis observed of Meghan in her article: “She has taken a hardship and turned it into content.” A source who knows the Sussexes questions why Meghan “is constantly looking back at how awful it was to briefly be a royal. What does success look like, is it a number in the bank? Is it that they’ve killed off the monarchy?” Another Palace source says: “Ultimately they are bashing the institution that has put them in the position they’re in, the longevity of that strategy is not sustainable.”

I'm curious about their strategy, too. They seem to think that criticizing the royal makes them look better - it really doesn't. Instead, it just makes them look petty and increasingly irrelevant.

CEO pay at charities varies quite a bit. A few will get paid amounts in the 300-400k bracket, but I think it’s more common for them to be paid 100k-200k.

@Legrandsophie
For example, non of the Kardashians got an invite until Kim had married Kanye.

I don't know a lot about the Met except that it's full of poseurs who wear more and more outrageous things to try and grab headlines for themselves. So I bow to your knowledge although I'd think that the Markles would be more than the equivalent to the West's.
I hope the Markles would have more sense than to go, though, because paying $30,000 a ticket and $275,000 a table to raise money for a clothes dept of the museum, I think would open them up to a lot of criticism.

Can’t remember which PP mentioned H&M standing in elite US society…here is an interview with Michele Obama just after the OW interview where she discusses H&M, public service and the racist incident - H&M would have done well to have listened to her wise counsel.

“The thing that I always keep in mind is that none of this is about us in public service - it’s about the people that we serve. I always try to push the light back out and focus it on the folks that we are actually here to serve”

*“Race is not a new construct in this world for people of colour so it wasn’t a complete surprise to hear her feelings and have them articulated

The thing that I hope for and the thing that I think about is that this first and foremost is a family and I pray for forgiveness and healing for them that they can use this as a teachable moment for us all.”*

Legrandsophie · 06/09/2022 15:02

@HannaHanna

Watch the documentary. She is very particular that people have to have some sort of strong fashion connection or something more than just fame.

Kim did not get a Vogue cover until Kanye. Her first cover of US Vogue was the two of them together. Kanye really changed Kim’s style and persona.

Hence why I think that Harry and Meghan might not warrant an invite. She isn’t fashion forward enough.

Serenster · 06/09/2022 15:04

The fashion houses and corporates are the ones paying for the tables and tickets though - it’s far more likely that the Sussexes would be there as a guest of a designer.

When Diana went she was likely either a guest of Dior (she wore John Galliano for Dior, it was his very first collection that year, and attendees often wear an outfit from their host) or Harpers Bazaar Magazine, as she arrived with Liz Tilberis, its then editor.

Anna Wintour is totally a royalist though - she’s invited Charlotte Casiraghi and Princess Beatrice to the Met Gala previously. What might prove more tricky for the Sussexes is that Anna is also a big fan of the Queen - there’s some great photos of them sitting next to each other at a fashion show. She had previously said that her dream guests would be the Duchesses of Cambridge and Sussex attending together - obviously that’s not going to happen, though!

queenofarles · 06/09/2022 15:12

One thing that is very clear is just how picky Anna Wintour is about guests. Fame or notoriety is not enough. For example, non of the Kardashians got an invite until Kim had married Kanye. This year was the first year that all the Kardashians attended.

And Anna Wintour has deep roots in the upper echelons of New York and London society where the rules are very similar to that of the RF. Scandals and tell alls are frowned on.

oh god don’t get me started on the Met, it died the moment Katie Perry showed up dressed as a burger, it’s just a ridiculous circus and Anna is just taking the p!ss now.
no self respecting person would want to go.

What a star she is.

I wish Michelle would stand for president. She is so intelligent, so measured in her response. MM could really learn from her.

SeaSwimming22 · 06/09/2022 16:28

Michelle Obama is so impressive!

Ohnonevermind · 06/09/2022 16:45

Michelle is just amazing

TarasChoc · 06/09/2022 16:45

I wonder in time to come how will Archie and Lilli feel about never been given the opportunity to have a relationship with their great grandmother who was also the Queen of England? As adults will they perhaps feel cheated not to have been able to personally know this woman who to be fair is a part of history itself?
Also what about their grandfather and uncle if relationships continue along the same vein that appears to come naturally to Meghan. Will they look at all their unknown cousins and second cousins and feel they were cheated out of their heritage?
I'm Irish, most of my cousins were raised in the UK which they love and identify as been but they also love Ireland and consider themselves Irish.

It seems that it's not only Harry's family and friends they've cut their children off from its also their heritage.

MarshaMelrose · 06/09/2022 16:47

OMG. Put them both in a ring, chuck some jello on them and see them go. 🤼‍♀️
Ding ding. Seconds out.
Who would your money be on? 😂

queenofarles · 06/09/2022 16:49

MM could really learn from her. I don’t think that’s very fair to say tbh, MO had so many years of experience working in Law and Public sectors , before her work at the university of Chicago.

Snog · 06/09/2022 16:51

TarasChoc Archi & Lilibet won't know any different so probably wont feel like they missed out. They will enjoy great privilege in their lives anyhow.

tattychicken · 06/09/2022 16:57

She describes herself as being an "ugly duckling", when she was young, with "curly, frizzy hair", but her hair was that of a mixed race girl that hadn't been chemically treated/straightened as she wears it now.
That doesn't sit right to me.

For sure they'll enjoy a fabulous lifestyle and to be fair will have two loving parents.
But I would think it's normal to wonder about close family you never knew. I'm sure they'll wonder about Meghan's side too but to be part of a royal family and never have got to experience a part of it or even know all those cousins you see in the media it will be strange I should imagine.

Exactly MM could learn how to present herself as a public figure raft her than as a celebrity

But isn't that exactly the point - that she has the gravitas which comes from solid experience, which leads to widespread respect because she so obviously knows what she's talking about and puts the focus on others?

I've just read the transcript of the Mindy Kaling podcast, and while there's good news in that it contains no whining or silly "revelations", it really is a heap of absolutely nothing. For something in a series that was trailed as being about female empowerment, you'd hear more insightful comment in a gabfest down the pub

What on earth was Lena Dunham’s fashion connection?

queenofarles · 06/09/2022 17:26

Yes Puzzledandpissedoff , and this is what MO said in the clip with Jenna Bush, it’s about the people you serve and putting the spotlight on them, I have no idea why MM speaks a lot about herself , maybe by time she will learn that it really derails from the issue she’s addressing.

Yes her gravitas is earned from the grit, grind and graft and actually delivering substantive outputs over many decades.

Her compassion is real and can be seen and sensed by others.

H&M would do well to be “curious” and humble enough to pay attention to the words and actions of those older and wiser.

Michele Obama’s short and simple message spoken over 18 months ago if listened to could have saved a lot of unnecessary pain and restored some dignity.

Here’s a blog from a young man who was sponsored by UCL in 2017. I appreciate that’s quite a long time ago, but I don’t care that much about this discussion to spend ages on research. I know nothing about the charity either. It just sounded like something that would have been a wonderful experience for the young people I worked with, so it seems a shame to dismiss it without finding out more about it, just because you’ve got a downer on everything associated with Meghan.

blogs.ucl.ac.uk/ucl-global/tag/one-young-world/

Thanks Hedda - it’s been fascinating watching in the attempt to find fault with Meghan the slow turn to questioning even why the delegates would even want to be there when they should be grafting instead of attending such vents. I’d never heard of the summit and it certainly sounds interesting for the delegates. These types of thing are always super expensive and there are of course questions to be asked about these organisations and their financial jurisprudence but it has been interesting to see how yet it’s another thing that she’s been castigated with. 🤣

If the point of this series of podcasts was to challenge gender equality why is there time wasted talking about dresses on this platform. Seems a bit ironic or shallow to me.

Thank goodness that isn’t the point of the podcasts
