With another podcast set for release this week, The Sunday Times has a piece addressing Harry and Meghan's apparent strategy:

Courtiers are bemused by the Sussexes’ determination to rage against the past. As Davis observed of Meghan in her article: “She has taken a hardship and turned it into content.” A source who knows the Sussexes questions why Meghan “is constantly looking back at how awful it was to briefly be a royal. What does success look like, is it a number in the bank? Is it that they’ve killed off the monarchy?” Another Palace source says: “Ultimately they are bashing the institution that has put them in the position they’re in, the longevity of that strategy is not sustainable.”

I'm curious about their strategy, too. They seem to think that criticizing the royal makes them look better - it really doesn't. Instead, it just makes them look petty and increasingly irrelevant.

Luckily you don't have to then! I thought she was great and she received rapturous applause (said the news I watched,)

Good for you Smile

Veeragall · 06/09/2022 07:15

I think Meghan is stunningly beautiful but I didn't like the red outfit at all. I prefer her in more structured clothes. I loathe her since the Oprah interview but she definitely has star quality.

Gilmorehill · 06/09/2022 07:17

I don’t know about the raptupurous applause after the speech, but the news articles I have read said they were booed on arrival.

susan12345678 · 06/09/2022 07:33

'Rapturous' applause from a carefully filtered audience? Her outfit looked striking but I'm afraid have to agree with others in finding MM almost unwatchable - her manner just feels so pretentious & insincere, it makes my teeth itch.

I did read the transcript of her speech and it seemed almost completely meaningless - it certainly didn't offer any insights on gender equality? What was she actually trying to say?

Just like most of the things H&M do, it felt like a completely shallow triumph of style - and self-aggrandizement - over substance.

I can't agree. I think Harry really loves her. I don't think he's always into her wanting to touch him all the time. But he's put his whole world into being with her and whatever he might feel in the future, I believe he genuinely loves her at this point in time. And for his children's sake, I hope, as I would for any family, that it stays that way.

I think he loves her too but I don't think he enjoys the life he has to live. Not his kids or family life but the rest of it.

maranella · 06/09/2022 07:45

'Very nice to be back in the UK', talk about effusive praise. What an empty, pointless, vacuous event, but perfect for two people who are just that. But it provides content for their docuseries, right? Content of them 'doing good', travelling by train, because they're oh so environmentally aware. Bleugh! The two of them make me want to vomit with their faux sincerity and rictus grins - it's all just fake and for show.

She was amongst good company..

Other counsellors addressing the summit included: Sir Bob Geldof, who spoke about the dangers of nationalism; the former Irish president Mary Robinson, who spoke on leadership; and the Greater Manchester mayor, Andy Burnham.

And MM chose to speak about herself - again - even though she was billed to talk about gender equality, she didn’t address this critical issue at all.

All the other keynote speakers gave their gravitas and experienced insights to the delegates on serious issues.

She looked stunning but is that even relevant (probably ironically not given the issue she was tasked but failed to address).

At least she has modified her behaviour as last night as it seemingly moved to faux humble brags given the criticism across the board from progressive left leaning media globally last week. But as an actor she has this skill set to adapt her delivery.

Wonder if anyone will do a word count like the Serena podcast to see how many words were about her and how many were on brief ?

It was a relief that at least this week she pulled back from deliberately vague but distasteful snide remarks of her family when on home ground - maybe she was smart enough to know how far she could go at close range. Or maybe she is “done” and feels satisfied that she has told her truth thrown her last grenades?

@LondonWolf , I find it more palatable with the volume down !
Try it you'll find it makes more sense 😀

Honestly, this thread is bonkers! Throughout all these threads incessantly posters moan about them taking private jets, they say they use gas guzzling cars, the criticism is never ending .
Now it's 'bleugh' they took the train and an electric car to get around? You really could not make it up. Madness.

As I said back before they were married. They will never ever ever be able to do anything right for some people.

May I suggest maranella if they produce such a violent reaction in you (wanting to vomit) I honestly suggest you stay away from threads discussing them.

RightGrove · 06/09/2022 07:57

Taking the train was for PR purposes only. They are still travelling by private jet. Incredibly hypocritical and fake of them and therefore rather a bit 💩

OK, they should have taken an internal flight private jet or a helicopter instead like the rest of the RF do
Got you.

Well done them for doing the train and electric car.

They will get criticised for anything as I said. This thread makes me laugh with the ridiculous criticisms sometimes.

stillavid · 06/09/2022 08:02

Meghan looks great and I love her shoes but am generally a fan of Aquazurra.

I am pondering how much their security must be costing them - no wonder they need the deals with netflix etc.

I mean in the course of their lifetimes how much is it all going to add up to?

Roussette · 06/09/2022 08:03

And just for your info... they came on a commercial flight, not a private jet.

Commercial flight. Train. Electric car.
But let's knock them for it.

MissMarpleRocks · 06/09/2022 08:05

I don’t think H&M should be criticised for taking the train/private aircraft scenario. Other members of the family do the same. It’s for convenience as well.

Im surprised though that Harry is doing such events when he has said that flashing bulbs cause him anxiety.

I still think they could have done great work within the family and I don’t believe the guff that they have said since leaving.

Let’s face it they wanted to ‘collaborate’ not leave. Their wording changed when they were told ‘No’.

Snog · 06/09/2022 08:09

One Young World's website seems to say that climate change is its main interest so it's refreshing to see that for once H&M travelled by train and not the usual private jets. It will be interesting to see if they have ditched the private jets for good or if this is a one-off.

Pretty appalling to see how many employees of the charity are receiving remuneration of >£100k when this is a small charity with a low income in the first place. Self serving comes to mind also gravy train.

Ommommomm · 06/09/2022 08:10

Harry seems to have an almost permanent frown on apart from brief moments where he smiles for the camera.

SueSaid · 06/09/2022 08:12

'One Young World's website seems to say that climate change is its main interest so it's refreshing to see that for once H&M travelled by train and not the usual private jets.'

Yes, finally a bit of self awareness and signs of room reading. As you say is it a one off? Time will tell.

Really??? For a summit about climate change? Do you not see any hypocrisy here?

How does it help the cause of climate change when the people spearheading the campaign have carbon footprints literally hundreds of times bigger than the people they are asking to reduce their footprints?

It's a bad look when rich people tell poor people that they need to change how they live their lives so that rich people can continue to do more of what they want to do.

If M&H actually wanted to be more ecofriendly they could have a way smaller house, preferably an eco house with no aircon. Reduce their travel to essential travel only and use more ecofriendly travel modes. Stop buying new clothes, jewellery, electronics, furniture. Stop redecorating unless it was actually necessary. Stop eating meat.

What they actually want is to be able to not make any changes that are difficult for them but because climate change will still affect them they want other (far less privileged people) to make these changes so they can carry in with having by a super privileged lifestyle doing whatever they like but without having to worry about climate change.

I disagree - I think the red outfit was perfect on her.

SueSaid · 06/09/2022 08:39

I m not bothered what she wore tbh, as long as it wasn't a 54k givenchy ballgown.

Said on the news delegates paid £1k to attend!

Veeragall · 06/09/2022 08:40

In principle I think it was good that they took the train. They get criticised for taking private jets so it isn't fair to also criticise them for taking public transport.

However in reality there is currently only one direct train an hour from London to Manchester. Trains are overcrowded and it's difficult to get booked. I hope that they only booked the number of seats needed - ie, one for each member of their party - and didn't block off extra seats for security/privacy. If they did it's tone deaf at a time when travel for people is so challenging.
