As the last thread filled up & there's plenty of discussion of Meghan's interview in The Cut, seems worthwhile starting a new thread!

A read yesterday that a series of media interviews are planned to promote the podcasts. Should be very interesting if The Cut interview is anything to go by!

Hi there. I'm interested in your answers to my questions above about when MM "wasn't" lying.

OppsUpsSide · 30/08/2022 10:52

Actually in the interview it is stated 'Harry said to me, "I lost my Dad in this process" - as though she was directly quoting Harry.

Yes exactly, they put quotation marks around that sentence suggesting she was intending to directly quote Harry. I’m not denying she said those exact words, but the combination of spoken words doesn’t automatically suggest a direct quotation.

’But mum said to me I had a coat in the car’
’But mum said to me, “I had a coat in the car”…’

for example.

Exact same words, but the meaning is different and made clear when written down, in a way it isn’t if you say it aloud. The journalist doesn’t mention of she clarified Megan’s meaning, which you might well if talking to a friend (What? Harry said HE lost his dad..? Etc)

But the rest of the sentence adds context…

“It doesn’t have to be the same for them as it was for me, but that’s his decision.”

But it’s still somewhat ambiguous, it makes sense to say this if she was reporting Harry had said SHE lost her dad, but it doesn’t have to be the same for ‘them’ (H&C) as it was for her.

Or I suppose she could be saying Harry said he had lost his dad and she was directly quoting him, but he hadn’t had to lose his dad like she had had to lose hers, it was up to him to choose to let the situation lead to the break down of his relationship with his dad. That is actually more convoluted and quite a dig at Harry (who she doesn’t tend to take digs at). Unless when she said ‘his choice’ she was actually referring to Charles. Which is even more convoluted.

So yea, over all not very clear even when directly quoting the exact words she used, but in writing them down they can easily be punctuated to suggest a meaning that wasn’t intended when the words were spoken.

Honestly, glad no one wants to report what I have say!

AchatAVendre · 30/08/2022 10:55

This woman literally moans for money.

Everything is exaggerated or interpreted to look as bad as possible to suit her narrative, whether it is her elderly father who supported her for years and turned her into the spoilt brat that she is to the "fire" that was a smoking appliance.

She is very entertaining though, because she is so awful. Harry is too to a lesser extent because he is equally blind to his privilege and so thick that he comes out with some crackers!

Going by her track record, it won't be long until Harry is cast aside and the subject of many articles moaning about how badly treated by him she was. Equally though, she might be aware now that she won't be able to get another rich husband so might have to stick with milking his family's reputation for all she's got.

I imagine that the only way forward is to ignore her and ensure you do nothing near her that can be misinterpreted.

Is Serena her bff now? What happened to her previous bff, who made that article gaff? Was she also cast aside?

I'm not a fan of the RF either but even they don't really deserve someone like her!

Which one of the Queen's sons has been accused of sexual activity with a prepubescent child?

whynotwhatknot · 30/08/2022 10:57

she wont stop will she for someone who hates the RF she really cant let go oh and use the name aswell-eiter she wants to be part of it or she doesnt

LadyEloise1 · 30/08/2022 10:58

@Ohnonevermind
"....I think Meghan wants to be the centre of the story..."

I agree.

I don't like Prince Charles ( Diana fan - I
know she had her failings too, don't we all ) but it must be heartbreaking for him to see how it has all panned out despite him welcoming Meghan into the family ( probably with misgivings ) and walking her up the aisle.
His son and grandchildren, estranged from his birth family, on the other side of the world.
It's like a real life soap opera.

Her interview with Serena Williams reminded me of that old joke , “But that's enough about me. Let’s talk about you. What do you think about me?”

LOL Starry, me too!

derxa · 30/08/2022 10:59

Harry left because he didn't want history to repeat itself with his family. Are they making money talking about the royal family? Well, he IS the son of the future King of England. It's capitalism. I'm 100% sure what Harry and Meghan are disclosing is 1 tenth of a percent of what they could say. If we all knew just half of the shit that really goes on in royalty, most countries with a monarch will turn republics tomorrow.
Bad mouthing your own family isn't very edifying though, is it? If H&M were so wonderful then they would be above that sort of thing. And there is no such title as 'King of England'.

Wonnle · 30/08/2022 11:01

I hate the whole idea of a Royal family , but strangely I hate MM just as much .

She's a publicity seeking mental case , everything needs to be about her . All these events that happened are mostly just lies from her mad mind

bloodyplanes · 30/08/2022 11:03

notanotheroneagain · 30/08/2022 08:31

You all have a lot of nerve telling a black person who has experienced relentless racism to 'just let it go'.

You believe every nasty rumour from royal sources who are unnamed, but when it comes from the horse's mouth, you now don't believe.

Because she is a proven liar! She's not even clever enough to tell lies that can't be disproved!

Which one of the Queen's sons has been accused of sexual activity with a prepubescent child?

He had sex with a minor (under 18) who was trafficked for sex. I'm flabbergasted you think the definition of paedophilia is only with prepubescent children. We will never know how much he "enjoyed" his friendship with Epstein. Epstein is dead, and Andrew settled out of Court because he didn't want to be question under oath in the US.

Can someone explain how "sticking one's oar in" is linked to pigs? I thought it was in reference to rowing?

Also niggling- bee using this all the time re my gallbladder- didn't know it was a racist term.

It's not, it predates the use of the N word. It's a word we have from Norse. No connection.

Starsinyoureyes13 · 30/08/2022 11:11

Again I don't think I'm nasty, I just think other things are more worthy to be talked about going on in the world without a family gripe
My Facebook alone is flooded with this woman and I don't care for rich people moaning about hard done by they are in their life, when we the people are the ones who are suffering with inflation, poverty and in some countries hell we couldn't even imagine. If that makes me a nasty person towards a horrible woman who has absolutley nothing nice to say about her own family then call me all the names under the sun. I want my Facebook newsfeed left alone.

ancientgran · 30/08/2022 10:06

I thought it was a sarky comment about poor Archie and his role in life, I mean he isn't going to be King but he isn't going to be a cab driver either is he. Not that there is anything wrong with being a cab driver, they earn a living honestly so there's worse things to be.

Exactly what I thought.

shockthemonkey · 30/08/2022 11:12

I haven't RTFT so forgive me it it's been pointed out, but for all her supposed "cleverness", Meghan's use of the English language needs work:

Use of the word "guttural" when it's clear she meant "visceral" (she says that Harry had a "guttural" reaction to the overturning of Roe vs Wade)

Use of the word "archetypes" instead of "stereotypes" (to paraphrase her comment to Serena: "yeah don't you just hate it when people apply those archetypes to us ambitious women of colour")

This last error is doubly strange because a. she has chosen the word Archetypes as the title for her series of podcasts AND b. in the context of her comment to Serena it means almost the opposite to her intention.

They are not racist

"sticking your oar in" is to interfere with something or give an opinion where its not wanted. And you are correct in that it is a rowing reference.

and "niggling" means
"causing slight but persistent annoyance, discomfort, or anxiety."

No, it means to help someone to row their boat when you don't need them to. I think it's from the 1700s.
I love etymology - I have all the Susie Dent books!

I do find it laughable that their whole marketing thing is about 'kindness, forgiveness, compassion' etc. They display none of those qualities towards their own families.

Yes, its from Old Norse and the term "njuggle" or "nuggle" still means a water horse (type of mythical creature) in some Scottish islands.

AustinsPowers · 30/08/2022 11:14

She is a complete bloody nightmare and comes over as someone who is toxic.

For someone who was supposed to want privacy, and be away from the glare of the media, her attention-seeking behaviour is a joke.

This will not end well. Either Harry will have some kind of breakdown in the future when he eventually understands how many boats he has burned, or they will divorce, or both possibly.

The poor Queen at 96 and possibly with some kind of terminal illness is having to put up with this crap thrown at her from across the pond and can't say a word in her defence.

Does it? I'd not heard about the mythical creature, that's interesting.

Who is saying they are wonderful? And who has bad mouthed the royal family? Saying publicly your own version of events, minimal events as they are disclosing, is not bad mouthing. It's telling their truth.

Geesh, we are in a forum where publicly complaining about spouses, children, siblings, parents, friends etc is a norm. But apparently they have to take whatever shit the tabloids dish for the good of England. Whatever. 🙄

Remember that this is the woman that wanted to trademark the word Archetype?

I remember an article about Paula Yates and Michael Hutchence. There are some parallels
