Meghan's long-awaited podcast has launched. Sorry if there's a thread about this already. Has anyone listened to it yet? Thoughts?

Calm down DFOD. It’s rather cringeworthy seeing all the sycophants gushing no matter the offence caused to their kind hosts, but you do you.

BlueRidge · 27/08/2022 16:55

@Cococushion You "can't care enough," yet you're on a thread about this very thing?

Readinginthesun · 27/08/2022 17:02

HeddaGarbled · 27/08/2022 16:38

@Readinginthesun 24/08:

I am just waiting for someone to come along and say that a housing unit in the US is the same as a mansion elsewhere the same as getting married 3 days before your wedding is the US way of saying a rehearsal

And lo ……..

Yes my crystal ball didn’t let me down ! Think I will reward myself with a G and T !

DFOD · 27/08/2022 16:48

Painful and cringeworthy to see all these PP run about like headless chickens desperately trying to JADE - justify, argue, defend and explain - everything H&M do that is “off” - must be exhausting scrabbling around like that getting their knickers in a twist…..amusing to watch how far they will go though. I am sure many of the other posters are just goading for sport!

And what’s it all about.

My reading is people must dreadfully unhappy to pick over and obsessively project hatred someone they have never met.

What are they running from in their own lives, what is the cause of the anger and bile directed at strangers?

It’s one of the weird features of modern life - the projection of individual’s problems onto celebrities.

Xenia · 27/08/2022 17:05

No one wh have picked up a few point MM got wrong haets here. I think there is no one on the entire planet I hate. I couldn't hate anyone I had never met and was a fan of hers until after the royal wedding actually until I became concerned about things she said which were not true - either lies or mistakes. Truth matters.

Also they have chosen to make their lives all about being in the public domain, podcasts etc which is a poity as Harry could easily have had an easy life in the countryside not doing very much. However they went down this path which is basically to court publicity and therefore people will be writing about them.

unname · 27/08/2022 17:06

VivaMazVegas · 27/08/2022 16:43

Ah c’mon, housing unit is obviously a derogatory term. It certainly is in the US, and the South Africans are very offended. All these lame excuses just make it worse. Why can’t she just apologise for the offence her ill chosen words have caused?

Let’s all google Los Angeles Housing Unit and see what comes up. Most of us still use the language we were raised with, from our own regions.

Xenia · 27/08/2022 17:06

9 lots of typos even by my standards.... "No one who has have picked up a few points MM got wrong hates her".

Cococushion · 27/08/2022 17:07

I know, I didn’t really mean to get into it! 😃 I just wanted to get a quick overview of the podcast without actually investing time in hearing it.
and then I got side tracked by the heated dismay about stuff that seemed quite trivial (honestly getting offended by the term housing unit is simply bonkers)

Why be concerned about what she says though. I don’t give a fuck.

Why not switch off your TV and go and do something more interesting instead?

This is very true.

People also ask
What is a unit in terms of housing?
Definition: A housing unit is a house, an apartment, a mobile home, a group of rooms, or a single room that is occupied (or if vacant, is intended for occupancy) as separate living quarters.
www.census.gov › HSG010221
Housing Units - Census Bureau

so maybe the people getting offended think MM is calling the place a mobile home. While others think she is referring to separate living quarters?

VivaMazVegas · 27/08/2022 17:11

You’re overthinking Iris and unname. She used a belittling term for the lavish hospitality they received and South Africans are pissed off. It’s not rocket science and there is no conspiracy. She was rude to her hosts, that’s it. She should apologise.

BlueRidge · 27/08/2022 17:12

@IrisVersicolor Where is the "hatred and bile" on here? It's a discussion on something that has made news.
My interest goes no further than that.

SueSaid · 27/08/2022 17:12

'Why be concerned about what she says though. I don’t give a fuck.'

'Why not switch off your TV and go and do something more interesting instead?'

Why are you concerned about posters valid opinions on here about a couple who want publicity? Why not log off and go and do something more interesting instead, hmm?

BlueRidge · 27/08/2022 17:14

@Cococushion The people who are apparently "getting offended" are the South African people, black and white, who hosted them.
I'm not offended - I'm just discussing it on a fairly lazy weekend afternoon.

And the official definition of a bungalow is probably a one-storey dwelling. But that doesn't mean you won't offend some Australians if you use the term for their homes.

Cococushion · 27/08/2022 17:24

That’s the thing, I love bungalows (think Frank Loyd Wright craftsman houses) and was actually being complementary (in my mind) calling her house a lovely bungalow.
in her mind, bungalows are old people’s houses and not nice.

Words, language and conversations are laden with our own beliefs and preconceptions. And let’s face it, our own prejudices too!

LondonWolf · 27/08/2022 17:28

They probably have. But with a different name.

<<gusty sigh>> 😲

I genuinely don't think @Xenia, is any kind of sly troller, she's been here years. It's quite offensive to make that accusation tbh.

Been going to SA for years, never ever head of locals using word 'housing unit'. In any form.
I have heard of townhouse, bachelor / studio and bungalow - through in reference to some kind of prefab structure and a few other names. Even in the township houses are called just that, now and again a derogatory 'shanty'. Not housing unit. So find it strange that anyone would be insulted by this name. Made up outrage it sounds to me.

themessygarden · 27/08/2022 17:32

I wonder if ‘housing unit’ is a term used by their security. It really is such a strange turn of phrase to describe their accommodation.

I do think it is totally reasonable for a parent to be spooked by the ‘what if’s of the heater incident, I know I would be.

However the drama of tears and shock etc,, and needing to be stoic to do the final event of that day comes across as so petty and disingenuous. If she was that traumatized by the ‘what if’s’ why didn’t her husband step in and insist Meghan stays home for the rest of the day with Archie. I think it was a joint event that day, so they would not have been cancelling anything.

If she was still an actress heading to a days shooting, wonder how that incident would played out for her.

Why are you making things up? I have not referred to Xenia, I know her posts of old.

Did you actually read the post, and my reply? Would you like to show me where I mentioned Xenia. See below. It's quite offensive to make stuff up.

BlueRidge · Today 15:20
In fairness, @Roussette, not everyone on this thread has been on as many H&M threads as you have.

My answer - They probably have. But with a different name.

LondonWolf · 27/08/2022 17:39

Yes @Roussette it was @Xenia who brought up the wedding, you quibbled about it and professed surprise this was still being mentioned, and then made your sly assertion that there's name changing trolls on these threads, not just people who don't think much of H&M for their own often well argued reasons. Honestly though I don't expect you to own what you say, you rarely do, it's fine

DFOD · 27/08/2022 17:43

No I did not. Nice try.

Someone was saying I had been on a lot of threads, I said probably others have too with a name change.

I didn't even see Xenia had posted, I recognise her name from years ago, so do not tell me I was doing something I wasn't.
I own what I say, if it's true. Having a poke at someone for something they haven't done... I don't.

You do you and just jog on with your accusations. It's pathetic.
