Meghan's long-awaited podcast has launched. Sorry if there's a thread about this already. Has anyone listened to it yet? Thoughts?

Yep, I don't think Omid meant this when he said she was starting a movement or something like that.

The fire story just seems like clutching at straws to add a new story about how awful the royals. What is she going to do when she runs out of them.

I grew up in the Duchess of Pork era, everyone got newspapers everyone read this stuff, everyone talked about it. Looking back it’s really really dreadful.

Fair point about internet gossip and speculation being everywhere, but in Fergie's day (and that wasn't just insinuation, it was out and out name-calling: remember Duchess of Pork for example?) There wasn't much other gossip around, so everyone was aware of it, in the same way as viewing figures for certain programmes were higher, as there were only 4 channels so numbers were concentrated rather than spread out around hundreds of channels/streaming services. Also, we probably didn't go out as much then, so had less to distract us.

At it’s heart the criticism of MM is both misogynist and racist. She hasn’t done anything to merit the kind of vicious bile and obsessive overanalysis directed at her

What did Diana do to deserve the crap she went through?
What did Kate do to have naked photos splashed over the Internet?
What did Fergie do to be called the Duchess of Pork?
All of them were demeaned by the press.

I dislike her because she bullies her staff and drove multiple people out of a job. And yes there were official complaints and many people left. I can’t stand bullies.

In Fergie's day a paper ran a poll and said 99% of men would rather sleep with a goat than with her. That is one of the worst things done to a woman in the royal family.
I don't think you can compare Meghan to George Clooney. He had massive global fame before his marriage. She didn't and is still somehow pursuing celebrity and validation.

The media have been sexist to their finger tips about all the women in the royal family bar the Queen maybe…and ironically perhaps Zara Phillips. Interesting. The coverage of Roman is forever, small, shallow, unrealistic, displays excessive demands and has unrealistic expectations of perfection. It demeans us all. It demeans us that most of these journalists are women. We are our own worst enemy and until women stop degrading women and forcing them into the conform box then we are all destined to repeat the cycles. I hope for Charlotte’s sake that we will pull ourselves together and not shout feminism with our hand and continue to list the Stepford wife disclaimers below. She has many excellent examples of women who have weathered the bartering with grace. Her mother, Eugenie, Beatrice. Strength is not those who shout and complain the loudest it is often those who feel the immense pain but hold on to who they are and stand proud.

Bullies always have an excuse - they pissed me off, they looked at me funny etc.

I might be wrong but I think the poster means S Africa ? Twitter is full of angry S Africans and if you look at trending you will see the hashtags .
Calling the High Commissioner’s mansion a housing unit was extremely rude .
The “ fire” was such a non incident BUT it has everyone talking which is presumably what MM wanted.

I remember reading the papers in the weeks before Diana died. They were anything but fawning.

This what what the coverage looked like then, @ajandjjmum If anything thinks the multi pages pages of coverage inside the paper was complimentary, they are dreaming.

There was a very scathing column written in a Sunday paper which was printed hours before she died . Can’t remember the columnist but she apologised the next t week .

That’s just 2 examples by the way - this was front page news for all the tabloids for a few weeks, given she had spent a holiday with William and Harry at Al Fayed’s villa, then had two separate trips with Dodi on the Al Fayed yacht afterwards. The coverage was hugely intrusive and salacious.

I’m surprised there isn’t a separate thread about the #voetsekmeghan trending on Twitter. It seems like a big deal. It appears she has really annoyed the South Africans😬

Last time I looked there were nearly 25,000 tweets with that hashtag . Judging by some of the comments ( obviously I haven’t read them all) she has seriously pissed off a LOT of people.

What exactly are they angry about? Is it the housing unit comment?

The ones I have read , yes that’s the main issue plus the lack of smoke detectors and the fact that there was no fire !

I don't use Twitter, but looking at the various C&Ps elsewhere it's interesting that many don't believe "the fire" on there either

In fairness 25,000 posts (or whatever it is now) is hardly a whole country, and no doubt it's just another bandwagon to jump on ... still not a good look though
