Meghan's long-awaited podcast has launched. Sorry if there's a thread about this already. Has anyone listened to it yet? Thoughts?

It does make you wonder if there is some resentment from South Africans who hosted a Royal Tour, only to have their guests diss their own lives to Tom Bradby at the end, which stopped all of the fabulous headlines about the country and it's people?

What she’s doing is inferring that SA is a sort of third world country where the accommodation wasn’t up to standard, the fire safety measures weren’t good enough and her own emotional needs weren’t prioritised over that of others during the tour. It’s just gobsmacking really. So much for ‘I’m your sister’.

After the Australian tour she moaned about how exhausted she was, couldn’t understand why so many people turned up to see them, and was reportedly unhappy not to have a whole wing of the residence rather than part of it.

It’s just as well she stopped wanting to be a ‘working ‘ member of the family really. The damage she would have done within the system would have been much worse than the damage she’s done subsequently.

The high commission residence is located in Bishopcourt which is a very affluent suburb of CT. Hardly a place where you will find housing units.

Honestly , Cape Town has far better roads and highways than LA and far more cleaner!

Most of the tweets I have seen are angry that she's added to an already entrenched lazy idea that SA is unsafe, underdeveloped etc. I can see their point tbh and it came straight from her own mouth. No media spin.

SueSaid · 27/08/2022 10:48

I think the South Africa comments demonstrate perfectly their habit of embellishing. If a massive posh residence is a 'housing unit' that 'they put them in', then what of all their grievances regarding the rf are similarly exaggerated.

Bit of an own goal really as we see time and time again with the Sussexes unleashed. Climate Change Crusader Harry recently using private jet to go play polo. They've the self awareness of a gnat.

Ohnonevermind · 27/08/2022 10:56

@JaniieJones

if this was an actress talking about a set location and publicity junket they might get away with throw away comments like these as who would check but they were representing the UK and the Queen in South Africa.

She’s articulate so she wanted to imply they were stuck in a shitty dump where they weren’t safe and she was dragged away from her baby.

i guess that anecdote is now being removed from Harry’s upcoming memoir

Is that the 'housing unit'?

Yes .

ajandjjmum · 27/08/2022 11:19

Readinginthesun · 27/08/2022 11:00

Yes .

Sorry - just opened the picture fully and can see it's written on there. Could give the house in Montecito a run for it's money!

Gilmorehill · 27/08/2022 11:22

That ‘housing unit’ comment has come straight from her own mouth, no tabloid twisting involved.

themessygarden · 27/08/2022 11:30

I must admit I was a bit bemused by half of S.Africa being up in arms about her mentioning a ‘fire’, or calling their accommodation a ‘housing unit’, I really didn’t think it was such a big deal.

But on reflection and as Janie’s put it, “She’s articulate so she wanted to imply they were stuck in a shitty dump where they weren’t safe and she was dragged away from her baby” .

However, she has a top notch PR company now, so I really do wonder how / if they missed how her narrative would be perceived.

unname · 27/08/2022 11:36

It seems really tone deaf for a woman this wealthy to talk about leaving her child for a few hours when they have excellent care and no financial concerns.

Mothers and Fathers all over the world have to leave their babies and go to work in order to eat. It’s just a sad fact of life for most parents. It’s bound to be excruciating for those parents whose children are ill or have exceptional needs. Not everyone has a care provider that they can trust, either.

I recently had breakfast in a small diner and the waitress was nearly in tears because her child was seriously ill. She just had no choices but to continue working and was so wracked with worry she looked like she would be ill.

unname · 27/08/2022 11:40

And I don’t mean that the feelings of wealthy, famous women are not as valid, but it’s going to get old quickly if all MM does is trot out her friends and connections to talk about their problems and hers.

40x40 was a great concept, but how much do you think it would really help the average young woman to talk to a celebrity for 40 minutes? They don’t even live in the same world as the rest of us.

ilyx · 26/08/2022 23:45

I dislike her because she bullies her staff and drove multiple people out of a job. And yes there were official complaints and many people left. I can’t stand bullies.

that is so funny
you hate bullies so post on a thread full of people bullying M.

No-one is bullying Meghan, and many of us are not worshipping her either.

SueSaid · 27/08/2022 11:55

'post on a thread full of people bullying M.'

Oh stop it. You surely must see that the 'housing unit' comments and 'a fire broke out' are just guff. That is not bullying. Have you seen all the offended South Africans on Twitter? Are they racist bullies too?! The gaslighting really needs to stop

Discussion about current output from a public figure is not bullying.

Honestly, if you think these threads are bullying why be a part of it all?

Anyone posting here is helping to continue the conversation.

If this board didn’t exist I’d probably know next to nothing about MM and PH. But I’m fascinated by the bizarre culture of this board and particularly the handful of regular posters and their posting styles.

Readinginthesun · 27/08/2022 12:05

No one is bullying Meghan . I just think a lot of us are wondering how someone intelligent could think it remotely appropriate to make the comments she did about the S Africa tour especially as they were representing HM .
MM had a lot of support putting together that Podcast ( producers , executive producers etc ) . Did no one think hmm not a good look ? Did no one think that people would really like to hear more from Serena ?

SilverLiningPlaybook · 27/08/2022 12:12

It’s strange. No one thinks it’s bullying when people take exception to the behaviour and language of Boris Johnston or the leadership candidates. H and M are public figures who choose to make public statements. They set themselves up as authorities on all sorts of subjects. Therefore their language and behaviour should be subject to scrutiny.

notanotheroneagain · 27/08/2022 12:26

Ok, so just a bit of clarity here.

'housing unit' has many meanings, among them a part of a big house/accommodation where a section of rooms are meant for a family to dine/sleep etc. So, while the whole house is big, H&M were allocated their own unit of it.

Meghan used the original word and use for the mud cloth.

Another point. South African media is owned by apartheid racists in all. I have not currently checked which ones are going now, but when I was there, only the Sowetan was the black people paper and a few monthly magazines like Bona, Enterprise, Destiny and Enterprise. I admit you have to check this properly as I'm talking from memory ages ago. Surprised, it took so long to jump on the MM hate wagon, tbh like Australia has done. Most black South Africans are not into that and love H&M - I still keep in touch and am told they can, of course identify the racism. These papers get their marching order from the UK. Sinister !

Most of the hashtag you are talking about is driven from royalists, MM haters and bots (all identified by a company that checks). A few people have jumped on the bandwagon to get likes, most are not black South Africans.

If your DC always go in the car at 3 to wait for your and on the particular day there is a fire at that exact time, but you decided you will walk to another place, you should definitely be shocked.
Smoke inhalation mostly kills you before the fire, proven fact. A 5month old at that. Everyone should be shaken.

Didn't both the people who broke into the palace go to prison and the kidnap one as well even if 'nothing happened' in the end?

notanotheroneagain · 27/08/2022 12:34

BoJo runs the country !
Makes decisions that actually affect us all.

No one give a damn about the Beckhams because they pay their tax, not take from the taxpayer and what they do does not affect us in all.

Oh and thanks for reminding me of Brooklyn😜, forgot. Now I will go and subscribe to his YouTube.
