Meghan's long-awaited podcast has launched. Sorry if there's a thread about this already. Has anyone listened to it yet? Thoughts?

Are the South Africans racist against her as well? They're not too happy either.

Oh there's far worse than that being said about her by South Africans. That's just the hashtag.

Various tweets discussing "mud cloth" and questions why Meghan referred to it as that because "mud cloth" is not commonly used for carrying babies. Too thick and usually used for upholstery apparently. Quite interesting. I'm not going to link to them because some go on to be quite nasty.

I read Jan Moir’s article and she did not call MM a dumb mutt .

This is what she wrote. I thought she was talking about Harry tbh - he is the one she likened to a dog initially. Still not at all pleasant though. However I can see how it could be I interpreted as Moir saying there are already "dumb mutts with barking issues" in the home - so could mean either H or M, or both.

Nope they are not, moat South Africans don’t care one way or another about Meghan. Those are no are not happy with her have every right to be, I rolled my eyes at the housing unit statement . But Jan Moir is racist , Meghan is not a mutt. Btw I don’t get how one can compare some South Africans saying fotsek yo Meghan yo someone literally calling her this.

Perhaps she meant bogart - the dog who didn’t like Harry who Meghan gave away ?

This is inflammatory nonsense. Jan Moir said no such thing in the article to which you refer.

What did she mean than she hen she said ‘another dumb mutt?’ As much as some South Africans are annoyed at MM I bet you 100 rand most would not support this type of vitriol against her. Because most know how dehumanizing it is.

She wasn't referring to MM as a mutt. She was talking about PH.

She didn't "literally" call her a dumb mutt. To have done so she would have to have said exactly those words. That's what "literally" means.

Meh , none of that. I actually don’t want this thread deleted, even. Though most of it has been negative about the podcast and Meghan, I actually agree with some points . For example, I wanted to hear more from Serena, I wish Meghan had expanded more about the heater story since she introduced it. I think it’s pretty mean and cruel to call where they stayed a housing unit.( this annoyed me). But I’m allowed an opinion to say some of the reaction to this episode has been unhinged. I thought and still think Jan Moir ‘s dumb mutt line was dog whistles.. ( I’ve been called a mutt) so have many others .

The 'dumb mutt' is obviously the dog Meghan has adopted, Mamma Mia.

The sad thing is that the initiatives early on were really good, the Grenfell kitchen support and the interview wardrobe project come to mind, as well as Invictus and Sentebale

Very much agree with this, especially as much of the light was left to shine on the causes in those days, without either of them hijacking the events with silliness.
I realise that the USP of being working royals was enough then, and that they need to plough other furrows now that no longer applies, but all the same it would be nice to see less diverting of the attention

The same goes for presenting themselves as humanitarians/philanthropists, though god knows they're not alone in this. Call me unreasonable, but for me those are labels for others to confer rather than something that should be used for bragging rights

It's awful for anyone to call you a derogatory name and I can understand why you carry that hurt with you. But do you think it possible that's why you made the automatic link that it must be about Meghan? Because if you look at how she's written it, she refers to Harry at the end of a paragraph likening him to a dog. Then starts a new paragraph saying Meghan brought in another mutt which links directly to the previous one of Harry being a dog. I really don't think it was aimed at Meghan.

If these were really great, then why did the press and some British people here on mumsnet, on tv and elsewhere attack Meghan so much for getting involved in these initiatives. I still remember someone writing about how the Grenfell kitchen was somehow related to a mosque linked with jihadists or something like that. Why didn’t the palace push back on this , not for Meghan’s sake but for the Grenfell community who suffered so much and most people are still suffering. It must have been soul destroying to everyone involved to have the constant negativity .

@MarshaMelrose perhaps I need to step back and re read and understand what Jan Moir really meant. Sometimes it helps to discuss these things , and not be sensitive to words, I get that. I guess it probably didn’t help that I don’t like Jan Moir so I will 🧘‍♀️.

All new members of the Royal family are treated appallingly by the press. Diana, Fergie, Sophie, Kate. Awful things have been said about them all and I don't think the palace pushed back on anything other than TQ asking they not photograph a pregnant Diana. It's like a horrible rites of passage. The awful things written about Carole Middleton when she's really done and said nothing wrong. The British press are horrible at building people up just so they can tear them down harder. It's nasty but it didn't happen to Meghan alone. And one thing she can be thankful for is there are no photos of a naked Meghan!

The whole article is an attack on Megan, so whether the dumb mutt comment was directed at her or Harry is moot.

Well no it’s not: if it was directed at Megan then it is straight up racism. My reading was that it referred to Harry, but I wouldn’t put ‘mutt’, ‘mongrel’, ‘halfbreed’ or anything similar in a piece about a mixed race woman because they’re used as terms of abuse.

To in any way commensurate the level of attacks on MM with those on Diana and the rest of them. People absolutely fawn over Diana and Kate. Fergie came in for a kicking but it was less vicious, shorter term and she wasn’t driven out of the country by it.
