Meghan's long-awaited podcast has launched. Sorry if there's a thread about this already. Has anyone listened to it yet? Thoughts?

@Roussette

you asked for ‘proof’ but you can’t handle the ‘proof’ - said in my best Jack Nicholson voice

Bye !

Absolutely agree with you. Dame Helena Kennedy has written a couple of books re women's position in society and they are well worth a read. I am slightly biassed because she inspired me years ago and still does. Mary Beard's book is also rather good re women and power in a historical context. Both amazing women who deserved publication and have the intellectual background and research to do it well.

Thanks for these recommendations. I am always seeking new reads about women, & children's social history.

Serenster · 26/08/2022 15:22

@LondonWolf I am a fan of both Baroness Kennedy and Mary Beard, I’d also recommend Caroline Criado- Perez and her truly eye-opening book “Invisible Women”.

Roussette · 26/08/2022 15:24

I can totally handle the proof... if I couldn't I would not have said this would I?

OK your percentages and word counts are correct (taken from my post I referred you to)

There you go, me handling the proof!

But don't let me accepting it, put you off keeping on and on about it! And I'm only answering because you keep @ ing me!

Anyway, dear old lady has her groceries, all is good with the world Grin

'Nothing happened to Archie. Nothing. Our garage burnt down when we were out. Imagine if my kids had been in there getting their bikes and were trapped! Not a thing? Because it didn't happen to them.'

Exactly! As others elsewhere have said Princess Anne was nearly kidnapped and her bodyguard shot, HMTQ had an intruder in her room.. not could've had but actually did.

The Sussexes are just tone deaf and we can only one day an intelligent person calls them out on it during one of their chat show reveals.

Nothing happened to Archie. Nothing.
Our garage burnt down when we were out. Imagine if my kids had been in there getting their bikes and were trapped! Not a thing? Because it didn't happen to them.

My son actually did have a fire in his room. He put a T-shirt over a wall light and it caught fire. If it wasn't for the smoke alarm he could have sustained burns. Bloody terrifying. But Archie wasn't in a fire. Nothing happened.

SilverLiningPlaybook · 26/08/2022 16:00

Why DOESN’T anyone call them out on it to their face? I really wonder. Perhaps the Queen might.

TheCorrs · 26/08/2022 16:07

I see Harry very much like Charles. Charitable. A champion of his interests. Preachy. Spoiled. Entitled. Desperate for freedom and to live like common people but loves all the perks of being a Windsor. Completely, completely, out of touch.

Meghan sees herself as Amal Clooney. Truth is, Amal Clooney has a stunning education and career and her speech making is built off the back of something. Meghan ‘married well’ to earn her platform. Amal ‘studied well’ to earn hers.

MaulPerton · 26/08/2022 16:13

Lineala · 26/08/2022 13:46

Surely that's a huge pisstake, phallic or . . .😆

I just got what you mean by phallic, Lineala 😀

derxa · 26/08/2022 15:05

Meghan has insulted a whole nation blethering on about a 'housing unit' and mud cloths. There is a new hashtag trending on Twitter #VoetsekMeghan

Bloody heck that's not good at all for the Sussexes. So avoidable with a bit of care and thought.

I did understand why she wanted out. But this is really not right now.

MarshaMelrose · 26/08/2022 16:21

To be fair Amal Clooney is only known today outside legal circles because she married George. Otherwise few people would know who she was. So I think there are definitely similarities to MM. Amal just goes about her business in a more discrete way.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 26/08/2022 16:23

I just think it's more authentic (not to use the title) given her repeatedly expressed distress and resistance around so much of anything related to her time with the BRF

This makes sense, though she hardly needed to use it with Harry stepping in to make the point ... who knows if that wasn't the idea, since he had nothing of value to say?

MarshaMelrose · 26/08/2022 16:23

I bet William HAS, which is why they're not speaking!

thenightsky · 26/08/2022 16:27

I had to google 'mud blanket'. They are lovely!

CPL593H · 26/08/2022 16:40

The sad thing is that the initiatives early on were really good, the Grenfell kitchen support and the interview wardrobe project come to mind, as well as Invictus and Sentebale.

Less talk and more do, with real focus on specific things would serve them better IMO, rather than scatter gunning in areas where they have little deep knowledge or expertise and the purpose all seems a bit hazy. I know the podcasts are a paid gig but I'm presuming they had quite a lot of control about content.

Diana spoke rarely but the images have lasted 25 years+ (and she was apparently VERY well informed about landmines)

Malie · 26/08/2022 16:47

Roussette · 26/08/2022 07:42

What? Why are you saying for me to give it a rest? I've only posted once before on here. How rude.

I think someone being number one on the celebrity list in society today should ring alarm bells in anyone with a brain

More rudeness. It isn't a 'celebrity' list. It's a Spotify chart for podcasts.

I know from experience that when posters start insulting others (anyone with a brain and the like) they are rattled and annoyed that, despite the dislike of MM, she is doing OK. Just accept it, and you'll be happier.

What is there to be rattled about? You are the one who appears rattled! 😀

SnottyLottie · 26/08/2022 17:12

I’ve just seen #VoetsekMeghan on Twitter. I get the general gist of it but what does it actually translate to/mean?

I think Clooney and Markle have more in common. Difference being, Clooney was a rich A-list actor, producer and major player in his industry. Clooney ‘married well’.😉

I don't think you can compare the RF to HAM, though. The RF's meat and drink is meeting and talking. They're all well~prepared in advance. The Palace will have contact numbers of experts across all fields so they can be briefed in detail. And they have lots of experience at chatting to anyone and everyone. Plus because that's all they do, they have a drive to make sure they are informed.

HAM just don't have that all that background available to them. And at at this point it's impossible to predict whether they will be able to get access to more information and contacts as they continue with their charity work, or whether their popularity will sort of fade, as it did the the D&D of Windsor, and results in their access to people narrowing.

I agree their scattergun approach is confusing. It's hard to get a handle on their strategy. It will be interesting to see if the public will start to view them as philanthropists making a difference, or celebrities trading on their name to make money. The mixture of the two is difficult to reconcile and you can see why the Queen wouldn't agree to it. I hope they become more focused because I really think they have such potential and they risk squandering the goodwill they have which would be a shame. I know they're happy but I'd like them to be successful too.

It means, go away. Maybe a bit blunter!

"Voetsak" apparently means "go away". So essentially "Go away Meghan" 😬

CPL593H · 26/08/2022 17:30

Diana's HALO Trust work was after she had separated from Charles though, and the very famous footage when she walked through a minefield was post divorce (and loss of her HRH) I remember there were dissenting voices as to why she was involving herself in such a cause at the time, although the general consensus seemed very positive.

I'm sure she would have had contacts and experience from her time as an official Royal but it could be argued Harry does too. I hope they do manage to carve a successful and worthwhile niche.

MarshaMelrose · 26/08/2022 17:40

True, she did the walk in 1997. But it was organised by the Red Cross and she'd been working with them for many years.
However, I do think that she got her training in the RF. Her tenacity and drive, though, were all her own!

SnottyLottie · 26/08/2022 17:46

@MarshaMelrose @LondonWolf Oh wow 😬

ArcaneLana · 26/08/2022 17:50

Some like to deny that Meghan still doesn’t face racism, the British tabloids rants about this podcast is unhinged. Jan Moir calling her a dumb mutt.. is pretty up there as racist. I’m biracial and have been called this , it’s awful. Yet some will be excuse this ..Mxm.
