Some nice Royal news .
It has been announced by BP that she is going to St Andrews University . She will be in good company as I have a young relative starting there too ! When I told her about LL she said “who?” so hopefully HM’s granddaughter will enjoy her years there in peace.
It had also emerged that LL is working p/t in a local garden centre ..
She seems to be a lovely young lady.

Why do people even start these sycophantic gushing owww isn’t she luvverley, scraping and slurping in deference at the upper classes

You know you can hide topics?
Sounds as if hiding the royal family one would benefit you 🤔

Zone2NorthLondon · 19/08/2022 12:02

And you know it’s permissible to state the obvious when the sycophants are gushing
so no on balance I won’t be hiding the thread as I can and will continue to express an opinion on privilege and class

Is A,B,C sufficient for St Andrews? When I looked for DS it was all As or all A*. That was for engineering though.

It was in the late 90s, I got in a couple of years before him with BBD!

MissMarpleRocks · 19/08/2022 12:24

I went to Leeds university in the 80’s - with CDD! Grade inflation.

Roussette · 19/08/2022 12:30

@Zone2NorthLondon I agree.

It's so ingrained in to the British psyche, it is beyond bizarre. I think we're brainwashed actually to be like this (not all of us).
We are spoonfed this diet of royalty by the MSM, and I just don't understand why we are still in the age of deference for such an archaic instituition and instead we are overlooking their blatant accumulation of wealth through tax avoidance and law exemptions.

I have nothing against them as individuals, fellow human beings etc (apart from Andrew lol) but they are just a family who live on the same planet as me! No more, no less.

derxa · 19/08/2022 12:32

Third oldest university in the UK after Oxford and Cambridge. My old university, The University of Glasgow is next.

Sparklypant · 19/08/2022 12:38

I recall years ago Sophie saying louse came home from school one day and said mummy mummy is granny the queen? Apparently they’d not told her, she’d been kept out of it, was still little, and she just thought of her as her grandmother. They were doing a lessen and she found out. 😂

Novella4 · 19/08/2022 13:25

I used to always put 'royal' in inverted commas.
No human being is royal . The whole concept is a hoax .

How such a hoax continues to the modern day is the question. There is certainly a constant drip of media messaging which yes I agree can almost 'brainwash' the unquestioning .

There are two types of royalists. Those who want to believe the fairy tale and those who never question it .

I have some hope for the latter as they may wake up.

I'm sure she did well to get her Uni place, but as for the garden centre job, thats taking a job away from someone who actually needs it.

Oh they can't bloody win!

Don't work - scrounging layabouts who know nothing of the Real World and live at our expense

Work - taking a job away from someone who needs it

Both of Edward's children will need jobs when they graduate so they should start as soon as they're able to get experience.

Zone2NorthLondon · 19/08/2022 13:35

Oh dearie. Are people scrutinising the rich & privileged. How unbecoming

I think LL inherited Prince Philip's competition carriage and horses. He trusted her to drive them, which suggests she ain't no muppet.

Legend has it that back when Louise's dad was accepted into Jesus College Cambridge, with 2 D's and a C, Philip's response was to quip 'What a friend we have in Jesus!'

Novella4 · 19/08/2022 17:00

I don't think Phil coined it .

Variations of that have been doing the rounds for years

Getting a job is about more than money.
It's a positive thing for young people to do.

It is, but if you don't need the money you could do voluntary work instead. However I doubt she took the job away from someone else, there are plenty of jobs in the Frimley/Bagshot area where they live (it's not very far from me and my son was born in the same hospital as Lady Louise, albeit a year earlier).

WhoppingBigBackside · 19/08/2022 17:31

If she had done voluntary work, she would have been criticised for taking someone else's opportunity of gaining work experience.

Not sure which garden centre it was but there is at least one within walking distance of the Wessex family home. Maybe the job was created for her. No harm to the company.

She seems a nice young woman. She has probably worked damned hard to get her A-levels and in her work at the GC.

We don't know what grades she got in her A-levels, but if she'd got 4 A*s, someone would say she only got them because...

Not sure what the attraction is to St Andrews - tiny town on the North Sea - absolutely freezing. You've got Glasgow, Edinburgh and Stirling down the road, I'd choose any of them ahead of St A. But I am sure she will enjoy it.

And yet it’s ranked top in the uk

Different things influence university choice. Glasgow was the university of choice for my family. My mother went there and so did two of my cousins.

ducktape · 19/08/2022 17:38

I graduated St A the year PW started. I only needed CCC to get my place, so ABC would have been more than enough (he got the same grades as me). I hope Louise has a fantastic time there, as I did, it's a great place.

Lolliesareonme · 19/08/2022 17:46

There’s a lot to be said for a days work, for a days pay. It can be quite grounding for people that don’t struggle for money. Opens their eyes to how many hours some people have to work, for not a lot!

Lolliesareonme · 19/08/2022 17:47

@WhoppingBigBackside - that one has 10 jobs advertised at the moment.

WhoppingBigBackside · 19/08/2022 17:58

@Lolliesareonme , maybe she had applied for a job and got one. She seems to have done fine at it.

It seems that PP operated with a robust level of self-reflection, a valuable quality. Quite a few quips found their way into the public domain including the one about Princess Anne's attempted kidnap.

Oh for sure! I went to Leeds. Just pointing out that st a is super popular right now especially with students. I doubt most of them care about random royals

I might have known the snide comments would start . I - naively- thought we could have a nice Royal thread for once . Silly me.

We are not allowed to have nice things on this board. 😂

Zone2NorthLondon · 20/08/2022 00:26

it is permissible to have a realistic view of privilege & class that doesn’t involve fawning sycophancy
dismiss if you wish, but it doesn’t lessen or diminish the legitimacy of questioning the fawning over the rich

so you keep fawning, I’ll keep questioning

ajandjjmum · 20/08/2022 01:27

Who's fawned? People have different views but I've seen no fawning sycophancy!
