As the other thread has filled up I wondered if anyone would like to discuss the book here. I’m listening to it on Audible now.

Well he should tell his face he is happy

Roussette · 10/08/2022 15:36

I could link you 100 pictures of him looking happy but if that's not what you want a person to be, you'll focus on pics where he isn't smiling or grinning.

Samcro · 10/08/2022 15:48

google prince Harry smiling. there are loads.
so boring all this he looks unhappy, yet when M smiles she gets slated. bet he would to.

antelopevalley · 10/08/2022 16:09

Is William unhappy then because he rarely smiles in photos?

(I do not think he is, but it makes as much sense as what is being said about Harry).

Good point! William doesn't smile that much and often seems a tad icy. Maybe that's him being wary. But because he's not grinning all the time, it doesn't mean there's anything wrong

William always seems utterly bored and on edge to me. It looks like he’s gritting his teeth and has a lot of tension in his jaw. I also think he often looks at Kate with contempt! But what do I know?
I’m sure life must be very hard for him in many ways - I can’t begin to imagine the pressure, and how trapped he must feel. In fact that’s how Harry described him in the Oprah interview, as trapped.
I’ve forgotten the point of this thread, but I really don’t think W looks happy!

ThighMistress · 10/08/2022 17:00

I suppose they all have to try to cultivate neutral expressions, which can come across as grumpy.

The worst Harry moment for me was when he was juggling outside the window during Meghan’s thing with Melissa McCarthy. It was cringeworthy and looked as if he’d swapped being The Spare in the RF and was now The Spare Part in California.

ajandjjmum · 10/08/2022 17:04

notanotheroneagain · 10/08/2022 11:42

Charles had a whole sit down interview 'trashing' HMQ. Hell, even Piper had her own US sit-down. Not a word.

The Royal do a lot of PR. Even worse, it's about putting others down.

The Cambridge are YouTubers................

Also, this PR stunt is tacky too...............

Not on the same level as taking flowers one and a half thousand miles to a school memorial in Texas. Whilst her father was in hospital having suffered a stroke.

I personally think Harry was happier before Meghan came along - though he did want a life partner and was finding it hard to find a woman at home who wanted to live in that kind of limelight, routine and ritual. I think he would have been happier if he'd been able to stay in the army and found a cheery army wife. Or moved to Botswana and worked on a reserve. He's clearly no brain surgeon but enjoyed the comraderie and sense of belonging in the services - many who leave service life miss it terribly and find it hard to adjust to life outside.

I think Meghan was ambitious and thought she'd be able use her Hollywood PR and influencer ability to good effect in her new role. I think she under estimated the duties of the role of a Consort in the RF - which is so rigid and rule bound. She didn't want to be told how long she had to stay at official meet and greets with the public and found it boring. She didn't understand noblesse oblige - with great privilege comes great responsibility, and you are expected to treat everyone with grace and politeness and be reasonable (not bullying staff). In that way I think her claim that she didn't do research was true - she didn't properly understand she couldn't do it her way and bend it all to her will.

I suspect the revenge refers to them walking away, the claims of not being supported and thrown under the bus. The RF's response was also revenge.

In the end the collateral damage is Harry - he's lost his old friends, his army connections, his country pursuits, his family and the country he's at home in. I feel sorry for him. I don't think a pointless LA influencer lifestyle will suit him either. But he's tied into it now and angry and frustrated.

Agree with all this. Also once the sense of outrage and being hard done by abates perhaps the mists will clear and what have they really got in common? Their children, yes of course. However the sort of upbringing they will experience will be quite quite different to Harrys. They are American children and won’t have any understanding of Royal life or Britain really. All the things that Harry held dear won’t be things they are able to relate to. They also won’t have any relationship with the wider family, apart from perhaps Eugenie.

antelopevalley · 10/08/2022 17:57

Do you ever listen to yourselves?
You talk as if you hope a marriage will end? Even though they seem very happy together you hope they will get divorced.

ThighMistress · 10/08/2022 18:06

Certainly not! And lose such great entertainment?!

(Funnily enough you did seem quite keen to question William and Kate’s happiness by suggesting she wasn’t wearing her wedding ring….)

Oh yes. Some posters love to see a grumpy pic of Harry. It means the marriage has just about ended/she is in charge/he wants to come back to the UK.

Yet a grumpy pic of William means nothing.

Readinginthesun · 10/08/2022 18:36

But Catherine not wearing her engagement ring clearing means something sinister ……
For what it’s worth , I do not want H and M to divorce as I dread to think how many interviews she would do with “ her truth”

Nothing to do with actually wanting them to be happy then. Got it Hmm

That sums up how some posters feel about this couple.

MarshaMelrose · 10/08/2022 18:46

I suppose they all have to try to cultivate neutral expressions, which can come across as grumpy.

To be fair Duchess of Cambridge smiles all the time and she gets tons of crap thrown at her on MN for her 'rictus grin' . So they can't win.

I think Charles and Camilla are always laughing and smiling. They seem genuinely happy together.

I don't think there's any reason to think Harry isn't in love with Meghan and wants to leave. Yes, there are obvious moments moments of tension between them, and maybe her preference for holding hands all the time isn't part of his comfort zone, but they're not big issues. A bit like getting annoyed at a spouse for squeezing toothpaste from the middle. They seem happy to me. They all do.

MarshaMelrose · 10/08/2022 18:50

Oh yes, I agree. I do think that was a low point. He looked a bit like a trained pet. 😂
But everyone lives and learns, so it'll be interesting to see if he does stuff like that again.

William is the only one with that expression.
Catherine is always laughing.
Charles and Camilla often look quite jolly.
Anne looks sterner.
The Queen used to look sterner but now often looks quite jolly.

But I am not going to look at their expressions and say who is happy and who is not. It is a ridiculous thing to do.

MarshaMelrose · 10/08/2022 19:47

Anne looks sterner.

She's fab, isn't she. She looks stern and then she breaks into a smile. I saw a photo of her with one of Zara's children. They were both pointing in different directions. I often wonder how those grandparent chats go with her. I can't see her being particularly tolerant or maternal but she seems to have a good relationship with her children and their partners, so I guess you can just never tell.

And yes, I agree about the queen. She's always smiling these days. I'm happy for her.

CathyorClaire · 10/08/2022 20:37

And the QM will is a matter of public record

It was and still is sealed as is the case with all royal wills. No plebby probing here, thank you very much.

That you didn't know about the private charity events so assumed incorrectly that they didn't happen

And yet we know 76% of charities with a royal patron don't see that patron's boat from one year's end to another.

William always seems utterly bored and on edge to me

Absolutely this.

He always looks like he's stepped in dog shit nose first but doesn't quite know where the stench is coming from.

She's fab. She has housed her entire family at Gatcombe including for a while Mark Phillips. She has no side. A recent documentary showed her moaning about her grandchildren not being interested in nature. She said 'I've seen neither hunt nor hare of them' 😂

I think he really hates his situation. He needs to do something about changing how he comes across though. It’s not a good look.

She's hardly making up the spare room in a 2up 2down!

It's a 700 acre estate with different dwellings on the Estate.

Not on the same level as taking flowers one and a half thousand miles to a school memorial in Texas. Whilst her father was in hospital having suffered a stroke.

I thought he faked his stroke, the way he faked his heart surgery?

Meghan sneaking into a charity event supporting school shooting survivors (verified that she showed up alone with just a bodyguard and no one knew she was there until a fan snapped a cell phone pic and posted it online) isn't any worse than Kate doing an "official work event" being photographed at a vigil for a murdered woman that other women were arrested for attending.

Harry's talked about hating his position and wanting to leave and hating the press for decades. He was always going to leave the RF, and he was always going to marry a woman who would support him in leaving. Very few women would be willing to sacrifice being a Royal plus deal with all the crap and bad press that comes from walking away (any wife of Harry would be blamed for him leaving) to prioritise their husband's happiness.
