As the other thread has filled up I wondered if anyone would like to discuss the book here. I’m listening to it on Audible now.

Harry and Meghan are independent. So your maths doesn't make sense.

At this point they are the same as that Kent son who stays in the US and is married an to an actress, as well as several other cousins.

Andrew we pay for his 500K-3M security and both him and SF are embroiled in the pitch@palace case with the Turks etc.

Samcro · 12/08/2022 10:59

says it all that you would put them in the same bracket as a person like PA.

Harry was never happy. At one point he was interviewed in Africa. Him saying how happy and welcome he was there.

They asked for the half in, with them away from the UK, and were told to fuck off. So the message was clear, you deal with all this shit we hand you or nothing.

Maybe Harry thought when he got older and married, he would be viewed as matured and they stop with scapegoating him - so much for that.

I think you are being a bit evasive there . I agree he said he was happy in Africa but did he ever say prior to 2020 that he wanted to fully leave the institution? If so you are going to have to link me as I can’t find anything and I think it would have made headlines .
They were told to fuck off ? Who said that ? My understanding is that they were told that they couldn’t have what they wanted ( all the perks and glamour but no community centre visits in rainy Rothesay) but to take a year to consider the options .

ThighMistress · 12/08/2022 11:42

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if H&M had declared their intention to step away and go and live in Canada/Botswana/The Cotswolds/Montecito then that would have been a shame but we all would have waved them off and wished them well. But it Was Not Like That.

There was the advance planning, the statement of wanting to do royal tours etc but no day-to-day boring visits, then the Oprah stuff, television appearances, books, swooping in for visits to bereaved, etc etc etc.

NONE of that is them living “privately”. It is them wanting recognition and the attendant privileges.

I think they have played a stinker. Riding high after the wedding, they could have been a triumph. Worldwide popularity, adoration even. Whoever advised them behind the scenes had an ulterior motive, imo, to destroy the royal family, and M&H were useful tools (in both senses of the word).

Completely agree.

Think a little deeper Rousette. How is someone who will not visit the UK as they are worried about security, able to live 'where they want'. This surely would not be possible due to their own concerns.

I don't understand. What about Australia or Africa or Sweden or Norway or anywhere... he pays for security now in US, he would pay for security if he moved anywhere. I'm confused what you mean!

If he becomes a completely private citizen, then the whining will stop. That means, no taxpayer perks inc titles.

What taxpayer perks does he get?

As for saying they're scammers and are scamming us, that is really unpleasant.

Why would the Queen agree to Harry living abroad, picking and choosing what he fancied doing, whilst living off the tax payer and keeping his titles? It would hardly be fair on the rest of the family who don't have that option, would it?

antelopevalley · 12/08/2022 14:30

The half in and half out was not okay as an option.
But there are others who do nothing and get funds like Prince Andrew.

Roussette · 12/08/2022 15:30

I don't agree with the half in half out option, worth a try but was never going to happen - too messy and if the rest of the RF had any sense, they'd want it too!

MaulPerton · 12/08/2022 16:39

Whoever advised them behind the scenes had an ulterior motive, imo, to destroy the royal family, and M&H were useful tools (in both senses of the word)

This is really worth further consideration.

Ohnonevermind · 12/08/2022 16:48

@Roussette

That defeats the idea of ‘duty and service’ and is more a Hollywood publicity model.

there is a distinction

i hope you’re feeling okay

Really sorry to hear this, Roussette - get well soon Flowers

If you want to bitch about Prince Andrew @Roussette to feel a little better - we can all join in together 💐

I’m reminded of the housekeeper in Pride and Prejudice ‘he turned out very ill’

Roussette · 13/08/2022 07:54

😂🤣 Hehe, like some sort of rant therapy, we all need that sometimes!

I have to say.... the RF are getting some awful headlines at the moment, I actually feel a bit sorry for them, and most are Andrew...

'Andrew costing £700,000 a year for security' (obviously a poke in the eye for Harry who wants security when he comes over here)
And just out... 'Prince Andrew is not Queen's favourite child' (that one made me laugh! Apparently it's Edward!)
'Prince Charles may be more of a problem than Andrew and Harry'
'Taxpayers forking out eye watering sum to fund Prince Andrew's security'
And there's plenty more.

Apparently, his security cost has just been reviewed and this is why. I don't want to regurgitate the should Harry have security stuff... but it just doesn't look good I suppose. PA is a disgraced non working member of the RF. H is the same I suppose... disgraced to some, and non working member of the RF.
One has security paid. The other who rarely needs it, doesn't.

Rant therapy over, don't want to derail from the Bower book!
