Harry's speech at the UN

Just what is going on? Why does Harry think he is qualified to pronounce on various political matters in another country? Why is he invited and who cares what he thinks? Am I the only one thinking he is behaving like a total numpty?

The video online of Meghan gripping his hand/arm and not letting go is very strange. No wonder people say he's trapped. I have never held my own DHs hand like that (and we do hold hands yes)

Fantastic speech from Harry last night. I'm afraid you'd have to call up the Mandela Foundation to ask why they invited him.

Here's Ndileka Mandela, Nelson Mandela’s granddaughter explaining the connection the Mandela Family feels to Prince Harry.

Some of you might get out of your feelings then.

He seemed a little nervous at the start but settled into his speech well. Well done him.

I have never heard people say that. So what, who cares how you hold your husbands hand. The willingness to see one thing, and try to turn it into something else by some on here, is verging on disturbing.

VivaMazVegas · 19/07/2022 08:44

Couldn’t agree more OP. I cringe with embarrassment at what Americans must think of his lectures.

It is extremely odd. One poster holds her DH's hand in a certain way. H&M don't = their marriage is in trouble.

I was advised to watch his speech so I did but then got dragged down a rabbit hole of body language videos. 😒 There was one showing her keep trying to hold his hand even he clearly didn't want to. I didn't agree with everything the guy on the video said but once you'd seen her how she wouldn't leave him alone when he clearly didn't want to be touched, you couldn't unsee it. I was quite surprised. But maybe he was just nervous. It's a big event for anyone.

Exactly, the things people will say to put down their marriage. Talk about reaching!

CanYouNotReadTheSign · 19/07/2022 09:04

If you don't like H&M, just ignore their work, surely?! I don't like the way they went about leaving the RF and complaining to Oprah, but the insults are unnecessary and very telling.

The question is why is a man with no credentials, knowledge or experience of politics giving political speeches in a foreign country? That’s why his qualifications are being discussed.

because he is a famous face for hire if the money is right.
he’s got to keep himself in the limelight in order to see “relevant” and current and to keep the money rolling in

and if he can air his grievances at the same time, so much the better.

plus, some celebrities are addicted to publicity.

Probably invited because he's easier to access now that the actual Royal family. Also desperate for cash.

Oh ? How much was he paid?

Why do these threads always have to get so nasty? It’s not necessary. People are allowed an opinion on two people to put themselves on a pedestal and preach to all and sundry with no qualifications to do so and no real knowledge or understanding. They are totally hypocritical and always out for their own gain.

Passive aggressiveness and spiteful comments aren’t necessary.

You ran all the way here to desperately start this vile thread with a negative post and you act like you don't know what you were doing. You know exactly you got your intentions of a pile on. This subject was being discussed on another thread, it was not visible enough for you, so you highlighted it with a new thread, with you as the main negativity cheerleader. You must feel great, your wish has been granted.

I think it's called projection 😁

It's true there was hardly anyone there but the point is the world is talking about what he said and publicising it. That's what's important. That celebrities can highlight issues.

Did it make you feel good writing that? Sad.

Icedbannoffee · 19/07/2022 12:25

I think celebrity is a bit of a stretch. He is known because he was born into the Royal family, a family he has made great effort to leave and to criticise. He has no particular talents, knowledge, insight to offer the world to make him a celebrity in his own right and it is baffling beyond his connection to Diana as to why people think others are bothered by what he has to say. Plenty of people have done extraordinary work in this area and I'd much rather listen to them.

BeatricePortinari · 19/07/2022 12:36

Any celebs opining to the masses to signal their virtue and tell us what we should all be doing really grates with me.

In fact I think only celebs and the media think this is a good idea, and don't realise how much the average person finds this type of thing patronising deeply off putting.

It's especially grating with Harry, as he's one of the most elite and privileged people to have ever lived, has done nothing personally note worthy to give credence to his views, and appears to now just be a gloom merchant despite being so fortunate compared to 99.9999999% of people, and wants to tell us all what we should be doing.

It's so misjudged.

It only happens because celebs like them, like to have a platform for their virtue, and organisations like to have celebs linked to them, so it's a mutually satisfyingly for them, but they don't really care or understand how it is actually received by most normal people.

chiffchaffchiff · 19/07/2022 12:40

I don't think it's cruel to bring up his rubbish academics. He had all the privilege and support money can buy and still failed to achieve average GCSEs or A levels. He's clearly not academically intelligent so it's a strange choice to have him addressing the UN instead of people with in-depth knowledge or experience.

The celebrity factor helps but if that's what they wanted, they could have asked him to take more of a presenter role and introduce the speakers.

No it did not offend me. I just wonder what would make someone write something unkind about someone they do not know. I have no idea how you feel. No where in my post does it indicate that, so I have no idea what you mean by that. The rest of your post is worth ignoring to be honest.

AnnandJane Does it make you feel good, and clever, to call people 'thick'?

He's clearly not academically intelligent so it's a strange choice to have him addressing the UN instead of people with in-depth knowledge or experience

Are you saying you have to be an academic to address people? Oh dear, I should've realised that and put myself back in my box when I had to.
