Just what is going on? Why does Harry think he is qualified to pronounce on various political matters in another country? Why is he invited and who cares what he thinks? Am I the only one thinking he is behaving like a total numpty?

A company (Peter Phillips) owned also miraculously won the tender to provide picnics to the public invited to an event during a Royal event a few years ago

Patrons lunch for the 2012 Diamond Jubilee. He trousered £750K in a deal that was never put out to tender and raised less for charity than his fee.

I think the Queen got a good deal on that as they paid for the renovations £2.4M

Someone somewhere got shafted since that £2.4m also included an undisclosed sum for eighteen months 'market rent'. V. interested to know whether that someone was HMQ or the taxpayer.

As for Peter Phillips and his sainted sister I've said it before on these threads but they milk their royal connections so hard it's a wonder their hands don't fall off. But it goes under the radar because their mother was smart enough not to saddle them with fairy tale titles.

I love them

themessygarden · 29/07/2022 21:59

It is interesting that Harry and Meghan seem to be benchmarked against the likes of PA and SF.

A downward comparison to highlight that they are at least better than the worst, which really isn't much of a comparison at all on their ethics, abilities or traits.

Even their fervent supporters seem to have pegged them within that lower level status where PA and SF sit as the bottom feeders. .

Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/07/2022 22:39

As you say, themessygarden, that's an interesting point and one I hadn't thought of

Just maybe the constant "what about Andrews" aren't such a good idea after all ...

TrashyPanda · 29/07/2022 22:49

Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/07/2022 19:29

in Scotland there is a wonderful post known as QLTR - which is short for Queen’s and Lord Treasurer’s Remembrancer

Isn’t that magnificent?

Not really, no Confused

But it might draw the sting a bit if - as with so many of these ridiculous "positions" - it turns they merely get a butt of malmsey or something for doing it

Actually, QLTR deals with bona vacantia, ultimus haeres and other such issues.

not ridiculous at all

That’s disgusting

it seems to me that Hand M have been very dense in the way they have gone about things. Shouting their mouths off, causing offence, ghost writing a book they deny having participated in when it’s blatantly obvious all the detail came from them. Flouncing off, giving an interview to air their dirty laundry. Preaching to the minions about a load of nonsense .

The other free loaders at least have the sense not to alienate their families deliberately and cause obvious contention. Andrew is a repulsive person , but at least he doesn’t talk about how the Monarchy is a moribund institution which keeps his relatives captive… whilst still using his titles. He appears to love his ex wife and daughters, and the Queen for that matter. He doesn’t diss Charles to anyone who will listen. This doesn’t mean I’m making excuses for him, far from it. He’s thick and entitled too.

I think H and M have been incredibly naive and arrogant in equal measures.

I don't care if Peter Philips does tacky foreign adverts

Well you really should care. Have you seen the advert, it's an absolute take off of all things Royal. A Palace in the background, an entrance hall with a footman holding a red cushion with a glass of milk on it, a tagline with his name and 'member of the Royal Family on it'.

If you don't care derxa you really cannot complain about any other member of the RF doing exactly the same or a variation of it, H&M included. I presume you don't care because you 'love them'. ?

We do know how they make their money, Roussette - all of them, and none of it is pretty. It's just that some of them are still here to turn up to a church or an opening of something on our behalf whereas some others won't lift a finger to help us at all and even spat at us on their way out with the goodies (euphemism alert, in case anyone thinks that they actually did spit at us). That's the only distinction between them, as far as I can see, but it speaks volumes, no?

Roussette · 30/07/2022 08:23

No, it doesn't speak volumes. You talk as if H&M are the only ones to have criticised life within the RF. They aren't. There's a long list.

'Spat at us on the way out with their goodies' is a very unpleasant way of saying they left, but nothing on these vitriolic threads surprises me anymore.

A simple 'Thank you for your hospitality. We will no longer be needing the titles as we are moving in new directions that don't involve representing the British people' would have sufficed.

As unname has pointed out, leaving differently was always an option.

It's worthy of an eye roll. H and M can do what they like to earn money but it shouldn't involve trying to destroy the reputations of their relatives. It's just nasty. Peter Philips doesn't pretend to be a philanthropist. He's just out to make some money. Honour your father and mother is relevant commandment here.

Roussette · 30/07/2022 08:54

Thank you for your hospitality

🤣😂

I feel very sad for Harry. I think he’s made an absolute mess of his life. No envy and no gloating, just incredulity that he’s been so stupid. In his position, family are probably the only people you can really trust. He’s turned himself into a performing monkey

He has a lovely home and two beautiful children, but they have boxed themselves into a corner.

I feel sorry for the children. The only family they have, that their parents are speaking to, is Doria. Once she dies they have no aunts and uncles, no cousins etc. except possibly Eugenie.
There are so many children in the RF atm of a similar age, who all look as if they get on really well.

KatharineofAragon · 30/07/2022 10:45

It’s a shame Louis and Archie don’t know each other when they are only a year apart in age. William must be so sad about it.

Honour your father and mother is relevant commandment here.

In Harry’s case he only honours his mother’s memory and seems to have put her a pedestal, forgetting she was a human being with flaws.

Meghan only honours her mother also, despite the fact that her father brought her up and made many sacrifices for her. Although his subsequent behaviour has been awful, there are faults on both sides.

I don't feel sorry for their children. they have parents that love them, they don't have to stand on a balcony and have their behaviour scrutinised.
they have been removed from a toxic situation.

I totally agree. I feel sorry for everyone concerned. Diana and Doria have been put on a pedestal. Whereas Charles and Thomas who were there for their children during their adolescence have been rejected.

I tend to agree. Lilibet and Archie will have a perfectly nice life.

Patrons lunch for the 2012 Diamond Jubilee

Correction: The Patron's Lunch was held to mark Granny's 90th in 2016 not the Diamond Jubilee. Too many royal circuses to keep track.

The tickets were £150 a head. A sum a lot of charities deemed too high and too controversial to justify representatives attending.

How he didn't see that coming is beyond me.

They have Harry for a parent with a vast array of chips on his shoulder. If he doesn't project all that crap on to his poor kids it will be a miracle. I would guess they will grow up with a load of gripes as he did, except it won't be about standing on balconies it will be about their extended families all being estranged. I bet we'll get a 'Finding Freedom From Suffocating LA LA land' in approx 2042..

That’s true, but they could still have had a relationship with their wider families if things had been handled differently.

Very true. Both parents with massive chips, actually and a persecution complex. That won't make for a very happy upbringing at all.
