Lady C is nasty, spiteful and cruel. Totally different from Scobie.

Totally agree, after seeing how spiteful and unpleasant her character was in I'm a Celebrity (OK OK it used to be a guilty pleasure of mine!) I think she is a very nasty piece of work.
I don't put Scobie in that category.

HinchcliffeandMurgatroyd · 22/07/2022 15:48

Did you suppose it was a great idea to compare MM to NC, is it because they are both black?

Ofc she picked another black woman. She’s examining the “angry black woman” trope.

Either explain your take on it it to her, or don’t, but it’s hardly a “gotcha” that she’s trying to understand it in terms of blank women, is it?

Speaking personally as a dark beige women, I wonder whether that trope hasn’t bitten us all in the arse. Shouldn’t we all be demanding the right to be angry when appropriate? A lot of energy goes into insisting women aren’t angry, shouldn’t be angry, and even more so for WoC. I think maybe we need to upend it. Anger is sometimes justified and healthy.

Roussette · 22/07/2022 15:45

Well done on the sarcasm, 10/10!!

So she has a career in writing nasty vitriolic books for a long time, and has a hate of Meghan Markle.

Omid Scobie has written one book that you didn't like.

I'm not on anything but 6pm on a Friday is G&T time with my weekly treat of crisps, feel free to imbibe too!

Can nobody in this thread pursue their own argument in a straight line for any length of time at all? I’m starting to think of this manoeuvre as “swivel hips”.

Serenster · 22/07/2022 15:51

You are revealing yourself !

I have asked you a yes or no question based on some very general assertions you have written, but you are choosing not to answer it (I guess because it’s easier to throw out generalities but not to actually grapple with them?) and decided to fling some mud my way instead.

Ridiculous.

That applies to you too of course.

Sorry to distract with my G&T 😂 but I do make a mean one

I don’t drink (thank fuck).

Of course your own family (husband/wife/children) comes first! It's a given.

Not for me. I never loved my parents and siblings less because I got married. Obviously my children would take more of my time than my parents who were healthy and independent. But when my father was in hospital, i didn't hesitate to leave my husband and kids to go be with my mum. And now my mum with dementia gets more time than my grown up children. Who comes first depends on need. I couldn't imagine treating my parents poorly just because I got married.

Yes indeed. It would be a sad world if we all just sidelined our family of origin in favour of our kids and partner. Marriages end. Kids grow up and away and start their own families. Our parents are always our parents . Likewise with siblings.

Harry has cut himself off from virtually his entire family who are not involved with his kids and don’t see him anymore.

notanotheroneagain · 22/07/2022 15:58

but, being a member of the royal family. Meghan got off lightly here too.

The same MM who apparently is now trashing the RF, is also being protected by them. So much so that they go over the British legal system...............oh, but in all that they also authorise JK to break his confidentiality clause to take down MM.

Yeah, right !🙄

Samcro · 22/07/2022 16:04

its easy to say "but in my family" but the rf is different, it lives in the past and doesn't learn. you can see what happened with w & H being repeated with G and his siblings. one treated totally different to the other/s.
I imaging when one is always the golden child (W) It must get tiring and then you have a child and realise they will always be treated as less, add in racism and can anyone blame H for saying enough.

as for the book, sound crap to me. just another person trying to use M to make money. did the author even talk to her?

notanotheroneagain · 22/07/2022 16:05

Ofcourse.
Just like when someone innocently asks what is wrong with the n word because it literally means black in Spanish. Oh please.🙄

Never heard of a description of a 'dark beige woman'.

Serenster · 22/07/2022 16:08

In Meghan and Harry’s court case, Harry’s “distressing” text to Thomas Markle before the wedding was not read out in open court by the judge out of respect for him. This is not normal.

When the judge was talking about Meghan misleading the court, he declined to use any one of the many, many critical phrases judges use to express their views of her conduct and just said that “at best” she had misled the court - without pointing out what the “at worst” he had in mind might be (clearly, at worst, she deliberately lied).

This is them being protected from the usual judicial process because of their status, yes.

You’ve tried to conflate this with the royal family protecting her, which is misunderstanding me.

notanotheroneagain · 22/07/2022 16:16

You are just making up air.

Things the judge never said.
Distressing to whom? MM/TM/ some mother/daughter listening? Who?

As you say, he never said 'at worst'. What's that got to do with anything. You are just grasping random phrases out of thin air.

What he had in mind? Now you know what the judge had in mind?

MaulPerton · 22/07/2022 16:37

Go after her/them and in the process reveal too much of themselves? Nah. RF have too much to lose. They are protecting her - and him. H & M will keep pushing. RF will keep taking it - until they don't. I wonder what that point will be?

Serenster · 22/07/2022 16:38

It’s clear from several of your comments on this thread that you don’t actually read my posts, so I don’t see why its my problem if you don’t get what I am saying.

As for the distressing text - Prince Harry sent a strongly worded text to Thomas Markle just days before the wedding, as he was in hospital recovering from heart surgery,

The actual text itself was not read out in court*, but it was described as being “a text in quite strong terms from Prince Harry,” - and the judge was invited to read it for himself. After he had done so the lawyer said “It’s obvious Mr. Markle was upset by that text... He’s on his own in hospital having had a heart procedure.”

*This is the bit that is unusual. Normally they will only do this if the information is privileged, or highly confidential. This was neither - and all the other texts between the parties were read out.

Did you actually read what she wrote? She was asking you about how the trope worked?

If I tell you might exact ethnic mix, I might as well post my passport, so “dark beige” will do.

notanotheroneagain · 22/07/2022 15:42

Have you ever seen MM being angry?

Did you suppose it was a great idea to compare MM to NC, is it because they are both black? What has Naomi got to do with Meghan. Or were you thinking to yourself that this statement is well suited because, there, here is a black woman being angry.

You know very well it's about the context and this is a stereotype attributed to women of colour as a generalisation.

You are revealing yourself !

One interesting comment in the book is from Thomas Markle, who says that Meghan is sweetness and light when Harry is in the room, but changes into an unpleasant control freak (to her father!) when he is not.

It is very clear from the book that there are two sides to Meghan.

"One interesting comment in the book is from Thomas Markle, who says that Meghan is sweetness and light when Harry is in the room, but changes into an unpleasant control freak (to her father!) when he is not."

But Thomas Markle has never met Harry. How does he know when he has left the room?

Wow do people really believe TM
the same man who has been blackmailing his daughter.
nasty abusive man

So many unanswered questions about Meghan and her father. Your view of him is akin to a pantomime villain and your view of Meghan is akin to a latter day Cinderella. Relationships with family are very complex. Surely you understand that.

He actually gets a lot of blame on the book for spoiling MM. The estrangement isn’t told all from his side, either. So yes, complex is the word. It seems to be a family trait to do ill-considered things when upset.

Roussette · 22/07/2022 19:37

According to you the only thing that Meghan has done wrong in her life is doing the Oprah interview so any discussion about this will go nowhere @Roussette

Gilmorehill · 22/07/2022 19:55

I totally agree Samcro. I can think of a few apparently devoted parents whose adult children aren’t speaking to them at the moment. It’s sad but I would never assume who is right or wrong. Yet so many people on MN cast TM as a villain. Who knows the truth?
I still find it very odd that she had an apparently good enough relationship with him to give her away but he hadn’t met Harry. Also, given how detail focussed she is, surely she’d want to be picking his clothes for the day?! How was that going to happen when he was in Mexico?

HeddaGarbled · 22/07/2022 19:56

There’s a lot in the early chapters about his finances which seem to have been very feast or famine.
