It's out next week, titled 'Revenge'. I've ordered it already!

It’s getting better now actually.

What’s jumping out at me is that it’s being hacked about (ie repeatedly edited, maybe in a hurry, and combed through by the lawyers address nauseum). I think that accounts for the slightly disjointed flow.

HinchcliffeandMurgatroyd · 21/07/2022 12:18

Sorry. So many typos.

HinchcliffeandMurgatroyd · 21/07/2022 12:22

The last para in this page, for example. You can tell it’s been telescoped down from a much longer original passage.

I found this particularly interesting because the shenanigans around Archie’s birth and what the Sussexes eventually agreed to tell the press - and then didn’t - was the tipping point for me

Who knew that the then Chancellor of the Exchequer Nigel Lawson's rather curious phrase - "farrago of invention" - used to dispute the Hansard account of his words and journalists' reporting of them, would find a new home?

Taiyo · 21/07/2022 13:32

I think she made a huge mistake throwing Kate under the bus during the OW interview. Whether it was true or not, it made her look really petty, and I think it helped drive the wedge deeper between Harry and William.

Why didn't Meghan have any money? I thought she made ok money on Suits and would have had her own PR agent in the US. That bit doesn't make sense to me.

surely their baby their choice, what has the queen got to do with it?

Erm, her image rights, her choice. Her personal life, her choice as to whether its released for public consumption…?

The old MN trope of "So & so's something or other, so & so's choice" is so overused ("vitriolic" is another word that's become very popular on the RF board over the last week or so too. It was a bit of a change for a while but is getting a bit boring now).
And, obviously, private moments involving the queen are her choice just as much as H&M can make choices about their children.

Meanderings · 21/07/2022 14:08

Not Tom Bower calling Prince Harry disloyal to his family on Sky News. Someone remind Bower that Harry's actual family are now Meghan, Archie and Lili.

It speaks to the entirely dismissive way they view Meghan and their children.

Was anyone actually going to ask the Queen if she was happy having her first moments with Archie filmed and sold to CBS for M &H’s benefit?

Wouldn’t that be entirely dismissive of the family that Harry was a close part of for the first 33 years of his life though? Particularly given how he keeps telling us how much love and respect he has for his grandmother.

Most people wouldn’t consider their parents/siblings/grandparents to be magically no longer their family once they marry/have children of my own.

Anyone else reading the book?

I think, they are using their connection to the Royal Family to make money.

I am not reading the book but am following through extracts in the media. Can anyone shed light on the 'Revenge' part of the title? Nothing is jumping out yet but I expect it is in there somewhere.

Interestingly, Bower has gone for a focus on M's character set against a backdrop of verifiable evidence. In other words, he is letting facts speak for themselves in building a character profile and rather unfavourable it is too. This will be devastating for her. I wonder if she will sue - but on what grounds?

Roussette · 21/07/2022 18:58

Sounds like you're really enjoying it. Hmm

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/07/2022 19:27

Plus named sources, which is a damned sight more than we get with many accounts, media ones included

I'd have thought that in order to sue Meghan would have to show that Bower's lied, and on his past form that may be unlikely - so what approach she'll take remains to be seen

He is also being quite complimentary about her in places, crediting her for kindness and empathy, for example.

HinchcliffeandMurgatroyd · 21/07/2022 20:07

Overall, it’s according quite strongly with Tina Brown’s book in much of the content (so far anyway - I’m only halfway through). The tone is different of course, and he is more transparent about sources.
