another publication fed the story they’d won

CathyorClaire · 20/07/2022 22:02

Why the interest? Everything is straightforwardly transparent, apparently

Travalyst as a private company doesn't have to detail the recipients of an amount of cash closely correlating to the funds received from the RF yet arising during a time of draconian travel restrictions.

I reserve the right to be interested in that.

You of course are free to be as disinterested as you like.

notanotheroneagain

I'm not interested in charities subject to the scrutiny of the UK Charity Commission, no.

Funds placed beyond said scrutiny by royal - even ex ones - yes.

Proof, if you like that stories about Meghan come from bulk-briefings - her visit to Uvalde, Texas after the horrific school shooting there. Loads and loads of publications repeated verbatim the wording of a “spokesperson”. You can tell from the quotes below where they come from.

Now, you may wish to think that some employee rang up all of these organisations in turn to read them out exactly the same details and quote…or, as was patently the case, they all received the same press release and copied and pasted it.

A spokesperson for Markle and Prince Harry told Harper’s Bazaar that the Duchess of Sussex visited 'in a personal capacity as a mother, to offer her condolences and support in person to a community experiencing unimaginable grief'.

Meghan took the trip in a "personal capacity as a mother," according to a spokesperson for the Duchess of Sussex told Town & Country, to "offer her condolences and support in person to a community experiencing unimaginable grief."

An Archewell spokesperson confirmed Meghan's visit to the memorial to USA TODAY. The spokesperson said it was important for Meghan, as a mother herself, to make the trip and extend her condolences and support to the Texas community during this difficult time.

According to a spokesperson for Meghan, she travelled to Uvalde in “a personal capacity as a mother” to offer her “condolences and support in person to a community experiencing unimaginable grief”. (that one’s from The Independent)

A spokesperson for the mom-of-two shared with HELLO! that the unannounced trip was taken by Meghan privately in order to pay her condolences and support the local community.

A spokesperson for Meghan and Prince Harry confirmed the duchess's visit on Thursday to BAZAAR.com, saying that she came "in a personal capacity as a mother, to offer her condolences and support in person to a community experiencing unimaginable grief."

Mmmm. No details though...

MarshaMelrose · 20/07/2022 22:09

I can't think there was a press release that they'd won. I bet what's happened is typical sloppy journalists that just read other stories without doing research. They raised the trophy as if they'd won. It was recorded by Netflix and people took photos. The photos were released and the journalists, not unnaturally, assumed they must have won. Because why else would MM be handing over the trophy, snogging her husband and kissing the other guys and then them raising it aloft.

notanotheroneagain · 20/07/2022 22:17

They will all have got their information from a press release sent out on behalf of the couple, and paid Backgrid for the photos that went along with it.

So where is this article that says, H&M sent us this press release, they lied. Here is the press release, and here is what the trophy was for and when we confronted them about it, they answered as follows.

This is an example of how lies are spread about this couple. Someone makes assumptions, does not check and next thing we hear is H&M accused of lying about ABC.

Anyway, I inadvertently spent too much times on what is clearly posters who have worked themselves up on a BG made up non story, because I thought they actually had proof. Even the rags don't seem to have touched this angle - little clue, even they could not pass it off.

I was agreeing with you although obviously too obliquely. An examination of RF murky finances should exclude some members according to some posters, namely H & M...

Sorry, but no0one will be able to produce that for you. As I said earlier, newspapers don’t reveal the sources for their stories! Firstly, to protect them. And secondly, because they all have a vested interest in not revealing how the sausage factory works.

It’s like the “Top Anti-Aging Products” or “Hottest New Fragrances This Summer” in fashion mags - all content generated from press releases that have been sent to the office that month. But they want readers to think they are lists compiled personally by highly discerning writers…

Serenster · 20/07/2022 22:26

Run out of pages in your playbook, notanotheronegain? Oh well, have a good evening…😀

38DegreesAndRising · 20/07/2022 22:26

The whole polo story fiasco demonstrates that H&M were part of fake trophy/celebrations (that seems indisputable).
A theory is that this was for the benefit of Netflix “documentary” filming - and that will all come out in the wash soon enough. Though I can’t think of another more obvious reason for the act.

MarshaMelrose · 20/07/2022 22:27

No one is suggesting that HAM were trying to steal the cup or subvert the competition. The story was that HAM filmed the award-giving for Netflix camerasbefore they won . So we were discussing that when we watch the documentary and see the award being given and them celebrating, it will be false. They're just acting their joy because they hadnt actually won it at that stage.

I think this is what happened.

@Serenster I don't think this came about with a press release from anyone - too many different mistakes in the copy between the pieces.

BUT - why on earth were they hoisting the cup in the typical polo victory stance and posing for cameras when they hadn't even finished the tournament yet?????

Was it a 'set up' shot for Netflix filming, a silly joke? Who knows - what we do know is it was misreported across multiple news outlets across several days/weeks and there has not been one statement from either the polo club or M&H to correct this mistake. And they looked ridiculous 'pretending' to have won, a week before the final.

The two young teenage players looked mortified.

Ohnonevermind · 20/07/2022 22:36

We’ll see when the documentary comes out.

If MM is wearing her Julia Roberts inspired polka dot outfit, we’ll know it was fakery for the cameras but more likely that Netflix will have to bin that footage too.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/07/2022 22:38

Does the 'writer' actually have any sources, at all?

It's said that he's listed hundreds of them at the back of the book - something I admire him for actually, since so many writers rely on unnamed sources (and if he's made any mistakes this time, that's a hell of a lot of people who could potentially sue him)

However as Serenster so eloquently explained at 11.01, that my be unlikely.
It'll suit some to paint him as a hack, but like so many of their claims it doesn't really stand up to scrutiny

wordler · 20/07/2022 22:43

They'd be crazy if they used it as a 'this is the winning ceremony' voice over bit, but you could see it in a cheery montage with other clips with a overview intro like

"they swapped life in the UK for beaches, Californian sunshine, charity polo matches and a focus on a financially independent life in the USA"

cue: beach walk shot, playing with the chickens in the garden, blend to Harry hitting a polo ball, happy trophy shot, conference table with Archwell execs

That's not really claiming something false.

notanotheroneagain · 20/07/2022 22:47

So there is no Netflix programme. No article saying how H&M released this statement. No one said anything. They were seen doing something, and on here - someone came to some conclusion and is now pretending that H&M said something they did not. Apparently they also saw a Netflix that does not exist.

Hello magazine corrected their story same day from the looks of it.

38DegreesAndRising · 20/07/2022 22:50

Erm the Netflix show hasn’t been released yet. It’s due for future release. No one is pretending that something due to happen in the future has already happened.
Well no one on this thread anyway 😂

notanotheroneagain · 20/07/2022 23:00

Posters on here are the ones quoting Netflix - which is to released. So they are lying then. Or just reviewing something that is about to take place like Victoria A and other RRs.

KatharineofAragon · 20/07/2022 23:03

I really really struggle to understand what joy can be had from living their lives like this. I thought they wanted freedom? Trailing around being filmed and releasing PR statements bigging up their lives.. pretending to win a match before it’s even finished. If Harry felt like an animal in a zoo whilst in the U.K. what must he feel like now? The organ grinders monkey?

It’s worse than the Trueman show.

Serenster · 20/07/2022 23:04

I don’t think anyone has said anything more than there has been speculation that it was filmed for their Netflix show? It would be odd for anyone to state that definitively because obviously it hasn’t been shown yet.

Anyway, if not because of Netflix their behaviour was very bizarre indeed.

Ohnonevermind · 20/07/2022 23:07

I see Harry managed to address the UN (according to Scobie) even though it wasn’t in session. That’s another great feat. They don’t meet until September so 2 months early this time.

in reality it was ‘an informal meeting of the plenary’ but that doesn’t sound so good

mathanxiety · 20/07/2022 23:22

The other royals use the following formula in the context of the titles and other goodies invested in them by the people of UK:

Self-service + UK service

H & M use the following formula in the context of the titles and other goodies invested in them by the people of UK:

Self-service

In other words, they get everything, we get zilch out of the deal.

@MaulPerton
Maybe there are people here on MN who have never heard of the term 'soft power'?

If you think the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are not an asset to the UK even though they're abroad and have cut themselves free from the silly flummery of RF life, then you need to think again.

If you think removing their titles and whatever support they get would go over well (outside of the UK where a section of the population spits nails at the mention of Meghan Markle's name) you should also think again.

but why should they be treated worse than say PA who still has his titles? why are they deemed worse than someone like him?
@Samcro
It's pretty obvious.

Ohnonevermind · 20/07/2022 23:31

@mathanxiety

i would have to disagree with your points as according to them

They feel unsafe in the UK
The U.K. is racist
PC and PW are trapped
The Queen is surrounded by people that aren’t looking out for her

if that’s the way assets act, who needs liabilities 🤣
