There were 2 matches on that Sunday.

  1. The Lisle Nixon - a proper tournament match. They won their part that day and subsequent match.

  2. A charity match specifically to make donations for support of several local charities, including Foodback Santa Barbara County, Heal the Ocean and CALM4kids.

The second one was a one day thing, so anyone who wins would have been presented on the same day. That happens to be Harry's team. Does not really matter who wins as the proceeds go to the fore chosen charities stated above.

Maybe because your rags were not invited, they did not report it correctly. That's what happens when you eavesdrop 😃
Lol, I say that, but it wouldn't surprise me if the rags confused you on purpose.

If there were two matches that would make sense - perhaps a charity match win would explain the little wooden boxes that the players were all holding and why Meghan was on the podium for the prize giving.

What it doesn't explain is why they hoisted the LISLE NIXON MEMORIAL trophy above their heads that day when the tournament was still not over.

It's definitely the LISLE NIXON MEMORIAL trophy because in some shots you can read the engraving on it.

MarshaMelrose · 20/07/2022 20:47

Nota, if you scroll down through the Metro article you will see them holding up a big cup on a base with writing on. If you then go to the Lisle Nixon website, you'll see that's the Lisle Nixon Trophy.

Nope sorry - they just played the one match that day, but they hosted a charity event at the same time to fundraise for charities and invited notables to watch them play their match (Rebel Wilson was one of them).

Also, have you not noticed it’s the same trophy? Go find some hi-res images, you can read the plaques on the side. (And you call us desperate…)

I wonder why they all were presented with those little boxes though, and why was the trophy there at all.

Did everyone who made it to the semi-finals get a little prize maybe?

Serenster · 20/07/2022 21:00

Donated by Netflix to make it look more like a prizegiving? Prizes for the semi finalists? (although when Los Padres eventually won they didn’t get given any other tokens). They could be anything, really.

notanotheroneagain · 20/07/2022 21:01

The Hello article does not mention the Lisl Nixon trophy, so no announcement about it and what it was for. Infact, no statement anywhere about winning the Lisl Nixon trophy.

Just like the guy who took a picture of Kier Stammer, someone snooped without knowing what the context is and ran with it, without confirming . How come those who are clear about the charities match do not mention it.

Now I think we are on the same page!

You are right no one is reporting a win of the tournament on that day - so why do they hoist the trophy above their heads on that day?

38DegreesAndRising · 20/07/2022 21:08

I wonder what has caused all the confusion?

Here’s another example
www.harpersbazaar.com/celebrity/latest/a40078813/meghan-markle-bermuda-shorts-prince-harry-polo-match/

excerpt:
“The team beat rivals Klentner Ranch to win the Lisle Nixon Memorial cup by a score of 14 to 10 at Santa Barbara Polo Club in California, on Sunday.
Meghan presented the trophy to the players before kissing each teammate on both cheeks.“

It’s just plain weird.

38DegreesAndRising · 20/07/2022 21:10

Harpers Bazaar DID report the win on 23 May including the trophy being raised.

38DegreesAndRising · 20/07/2022 21:15

Ok magazine also got fooled or confused

which was retweeted by Omid Scobie amongst others.

I’ll just sit here and wait for my apology 🤣

38DegreesAndRising · 20/07/2022 21:17

Who are they when they are at home?

The cup wasn’t won until a week later so I don’t think any amount of retweeting by anyone can change that?

CathyorClaire · 20/07/2022 21:18

how much do any of them do for the title place? cambridge/york not Wessex obviously as it doesn't exist anymore. apart from the Cornwall one, do any of them have any real links to the place of their titles?

The Wessex title shows it up for the farce it is but the answer for the rest of it is... as little as possible unless it's a bottomless wallet (Cornwall) in which case milk it dry.

Hell, they were never even caught with questionable amounts of large cash in F&M bags

Harry now has personal control of large amounts originating within the charitable Royal Foundation yet with limited transparency on their final destination other than a wave in the direction of undisclosed Travalyst 'creditors' arising during a pandemic when no-one was travelling.

Just sayin'

Serenster · 20/07/2022 21:20

Meanwhile, back on topic…😀

Tom Bower has given an interview to Newsweek in which he has pointed out that Sam Karshner approved all the quotes taken from his interview with Bower for the book in a call just a few weeks ago - and was happy with it. Goodness, what could have changed, I wonder?

(Based on Tom Bower reputation I imagine he has the phone records to verify this…along with the tapes of the original interview)

Tom Bower's book on Meghan Markle
38DegreesAndRising · 20/07/2022 21:23

We need someone to write a book about the aftermath of the book - I bet it would read like a suspense thriller - who’s turning the screws on whom 😂

notanotheroneagain · 20/07/2022 21:27

Omid did not write the article. A Quinci someone or other did.

As you can see from the link I posted Hello only talks about the charity match, maybe they realised their mistake, maybe they were corrected.

Absolutely nothing says anything about 'statement coming from H&M office' they won that day. The pics look like some professional photographers were there taking pictures. But I dont see why you would say H&M office released such a thing - just eagerness of publications to go out with news of the irrelevant couple. How many times has one publication reported something about the couple and everyone runs with it.

So just ask for your apology from the publications, maybe they will be more clear as to who told them to write that.

So? What private person gives out their financial info? Do you even know what's in his cousin's bank accounts? Is it specifically for Harry or are you just gonna go around suspecting every Jack and Jill out there ?

CathyorClaire · 20/07/2022 21:33

Is this polo match the one where Meghan is inexplicably on stage and Harry equally inexplicably proceeds to hiss at her?

You clearly have no idea how PR agencies work, notanotheroneagain. Here’s a primer:

money.howstuffworks.com/business-communications/how-press-releases-work.htm

Some key extract are below. This is exactly what Meghan pays huge amounts to Sunsine Sacks to do - to keep her in the news cycles.

Every day isn't a big news day, so journalists sometimes scramble to fill airtime and column space with fresh and timely stories. That's where press releases come in

A press release is a short, compelling news story written by a public relations professional and sent to targeted members of the media. The goal of a press release is to pique the interest of a journalist or publication. The press release should contain all the essential information (who? what? where? when? how? and most importantly why?) for the journalist to easily produce his own story.

The next step is to find the specific journalists and media outlets that would be most interested in the story. Journalists typically work a "beat," covering a certain type of news like politics, cars or food. Determine the news area relevant to your idea and send press releases to the journalists who cover that beat.

CathyorClaire · 20/07/2022 21:42

So? What private person gives out their financial info? Do you even know what's in his cousin's bank accounts? Is it specifically for Harry or are you just gonna go around suspecting every Jack and Jill out there ?

Well the cousins aren't noted for financial probity or transparency (Zara f'rinstance is known to have lied and her sainted husband claimed furlough despite being a millionaire several times over and that's before we start on the York gels and their eye batting over donations from an alleged fraudster) but yes. I'm interested in the final destination of funds originally donated for royal charitable causes.

Aren't you?

notanotheroneagain · 20/07/2022 21:46

I know exactly how PR works.

What we have on this thread is an accusation out of the blue of people claiming H&M did something, they did not do. They did not tell anyone that they won the tournament that will finish in future.

I am waiting for the statement/release that says that from their office, no one even says they released such a statement.

Also where is this article that challenges them on this, that everyone is quoting.

Why the interest? Everything is straightforwardly transparent, apparently.

notanotheroneagain · 20/07/2022 21:48

@CathyorClaire there is a long list of companies and charities. Do you concern yourself with all of them? I still don't even know those in the UK, and some of the ones I even direct donate to, so I'm hardly going to start in the US with a wee one. Why are you?

Serenster · 20/07/2022 21:51

Honestly notanotheroneagain this is verging on ridiculous. All these UK-based publications had stories and pictures of the polo tournament and prizegiving, with the narrative that the won the trophy (some even named it correctly!) the very next day. I can assure you, none of them will have had journalists and photographers attending the event at a Private polo club in Los Angeles half a word away. They will all have got their information from a press release sent out on behalf of the couple, and paid Backgrid for the photos that went along with it.
